When I saw the trailers for Star Trek, I told my mom that this would be the best show ever!

1971... As scandalous as my mother.

I was just starting junior high in the 7th grade when the show premiered and I've never been anything but a casual viewer (I never even got beyond Captain Picard's Borg episodes). But I'm startled at how far we've come in promos in 58 years. That 15-second spot looks like it's straight out of the days of the National Anthem at midnight, followed by 5 or 6 hours of a test pattern with one or more chieftains of various sizes in full headdresses. Maybe in 1966, our local NBC affiliate was still on that schedule.

Figuring out and according to the wikipedia, This print is to promote the 3rd theatrical reissue of the classic film. That's why it's actually made in 1972.

Never thought I would see Spock with no shirt on, but here we are...

for me, as a 12 year old in 1977, I discovered Star Trek Summer weekdays at 5pm on WTOG 44 in Tampa Bay Area. they played them in order, so I got to see every episode except one, CATS PAW, the halloween episode. I did not see that until I BOUGHT IT in 1986 on VHS, and I've maybe only seen that episode 5-7 times. The others, several of them I can recite verbatim. especially the ones back in 77 that I recorded onto cassette tapes so I could listen again the next day,.. and over and over again. I believe that kind of audio recording is how animators have revived Doctor Who episodes.

It may look cheesy now, but in the 1960's these special effects were state of the art.

I hear this STAR TREK show will be premiering in the Fall of 2024, but why in black and white? Are they going for a retro look?

They didn't start creating actual promo clips with excerpts from the episode until ABC started doing it in the 70s.

You can tell that NBC didn't understand the product they had...

Learned two things: 1) NBC hadn't figured out to start one-hour shows on the hour, not the half hour, 2) Vulcans have chest hair.

Love it.Star Trek on 16mm film.Back in the day,in re-runs,most stations would show 16mm prints.All scratched up and everything. There is some animation on the bridge screen I dont remember seeing when they aired.

We didn't get a color tv until 1972. Our 19inch RCA was as good as it was going to get. Star Trek was still way cool in B&W TV.

There was HD in the 1960s? No wait, there wasn't so it's not "high definition"

I love how Kirk says they're leaving the galaxy, but in all the franchises, I think they have only done that twice. They really mostly stay in the Alpha Quadrant.
