In the film, the character "Catherine Freneau" with time, fell in love with "Walter Eckland" because Catherine found out eventually, that although Walter is rough on the edges, Walter is a good decent human being, who would be an all time. great husband, of which up to then, Catherine had never found that in her life time and therefore Catherine fell in love with Walter.. Walter had passed Catherine's litmus test. Walter put his own life on the line several times, to save the lives of the girls, aa well as Catherine which started when Walter first met them. He managed to transport Catherine and all 7 of the girls to his Island. He had also showed himself to be a fatherly figure. He got Jenny to talk.

It is not funny at all to children who have been abused by alcoholic parents. And who also laughed at this film . Identifying with his desperation to get a drink. . laughing at their own addiction.

What is he doing using binoculars to spy on little girls? Don't excuse his alcoholism.

Just saw this for the first time in forever. It really is a terrific movie. Grant is just great, as usual.

I was a small child when this movie came out. I am 62 now and I always enjoyed watching this movie.Great adventure,being a coast watcher during World War2, and stuck with a school teacher and her girl's!

I love this Cary Grant movie, it's so charming!

Jenny stole every scene she was in from Grant. I suspect he knew it from the start and let her.

As a former child myself, I have to admit that I was shocked when I found out that there is a causal relationship between consumption of alcohol, especially by women of childbearing age, and birthrate.

What's worse I can hear ya!!!" Ms. Caron was a hoot too. Love her. So glad to see her again in another favorite, 'Chocolat', though she had few lines.
