There wasn't much on RUclips about this model so here are my thoughts.....
Hey guy. Excellent to know just hit engine stop and it goes to Park. Thanks !! And no torque steer, good. I got the 2024 Black Edition, before they maybe go to some vertical computer screen sticking up with electronic “virtual” buttons buried in the screen. Adaptive cruise, I’ll miss Subaru Eyesight trailing cars down to zero mph, I hear Honda kicks out at 25 mph. Maybe look at the Honda parts for color keyed, a bit 3 dimensional, body side moldings. Some protection from dingers and I like the looks. That and 3M stick on clear nose bra really protects hood from paint chips. Thanks for your honest info. Everyone just needs to figure out what is best for themselves and that’s that.
Thanks for your input ! For months I was all in on new Frontier, very quiet inside, that was nice surprise. Liked the trucky look. But winter snow and ice, going back to part time 4x4 kept gnawing at my brain. Rear end slip-sliding around, having to flick 4x4 knob on and off. For in town gray geezer not wishing to pull anything, mostly just haul an e-bike that weighs about 80 lbs with gear, the Frontier was overkill and larger turning radius, less power to the steering, not exactly optimal. In a matter of just two weeks, once I determined enough front legroom in Ridgeline, I totally switched to Ridgeline Black Edition fully loaded, is time for some coddling comfort on the roads of life. Good stereo, no fumbling with keys, cooled ventilated seats, heated steering wheel I’ve found I love when driving wife’s car. For myself, mostly FWD bias and heavy motor over those wheels, and a fully automatic solid kick in of the rear, is a good thing on snow and ice. Ridgeline sits at a really nice height, do not need a step ladder to get in. I look forward to rolling quite smoothly and with quiet roomy cabin on down the highways of life. Ridgeline looks to hit an overall sweet spot.
Well said! I would agree of course, not to mention that the Frontier has no telescoping steering column. That in itself was a dealbreaker.
Agree with all the positive comments, on my second Ridgeline and we love it.
I absolutely agree with you. This car was created for people who love the comfort of a normal car but need a body for farming.
Honda or Toyota the best
Great video. I recently got one myself and I love it, perfect daily driver, only thing I wish the stereo system was better, it's one of the worse stock sounding systems in my opinion. other than that awesome truck
What undercoating do you recommend?
I'm not a fan of undercoating. I'd use something like Fluid Film or Blaster Surface Shield
I'm glad you brought up the HPD package. Honda flooded their press fleet with base Sport models with HPD package and got so many RUclips reviewers complaining about the cost and comparing it to a Tacoma for the same price. Honda really should have put the RTL-E or Black Editions for the press fleets and just sent press materials about the HPD package. Interesting how so few "journalists" mentioned these other packages and instead just pooped on the stripped down, overpriced HPD sports
Exactly..... If early reviews in 21' on the "Refreshed" Ridgeline would have been on the RTL or RTLE the press and the RUclips world would have been raving about how much value was there. But as you mentioned, Honda was releasing base sport models with the HPD package that misleads people into thinking it has added off-road prowess (which it doesn't) and it does nothing but run the price up.
Great video! Being a man who has owned 2 Toyota trucks for a total of 37 trouble free years, I do not approve of the massive turn Toyota has made. It appears that Toyota has abandoned its core base solely for profits. Presently, I’m torn between the Ridgeline and the Frontier. I don’t need a 4wd and I know the Honda is a AWD. This is a tough decision!
Well done videos Thanks Have the 23 BE. 17K miles. Run 35 psi in OEM Firestone Dest tires Maybe my imagination but at new seemed to run smoother quieter? Now seems like a lot of jarring noisy feeling. Specifically traveling asphalt with those horizontal filled in cracks .. on some roads. Roads that have no cracks all ok then Advice to smooth it out? Run 32psi?
Firestone Destination tires have a great all-season tread design but get noisier with age and dont wear anywhere as well as they'd lead you to believe. I ran a set on my previous Jeep Grand Cherokee as well as my Wife's Jeep Liberty, replaced at 40k. Only got up to 12k before I put the 20" rims with Goodyear tires on the Ridgeline so I didn't notice them getting noisy.
I subscribed
Thanks, more content coming very soon
Honda Ridgeline deserves more credit and respect within the truck world.
Love your truck, Nice upgrades.. how has the maintenance been so far?
Just oil changes and tire rotations. The Deer strike is another story for an upcoming video
I just bought a Honda Ridgeline RTL...yesterday. What a super nice truck. Comfortable, good power, great driver features. Just super pleased. Now let's see if I can get 200K miles on it.
the second row is not passenger friendly. i wish it could be reclined more for more comfort. but it seems its only for short drive when you have passenger
just bring out the tire and place it outside. customise the lock and good to go
Thanks for the review! I’ve had 2 F150 FX4s that were great but a little big for our daily use- but I loved the powerful V8 acceleration…The Ridgeline looks like a good option if it’s got good pull off the line.
Timing belt is better. I've seen too many cars with time chain problems. The guides wear out and it costs significantly more to fix and replace the timing chain components than it does for a time belt. Timing belt with a couple pullies and a waterpump is typically <$1000 to pay someone else to do.
I'm enjoying watching your Ridgeline videos, just one comment - where I live and the way I drive, changing oil more often than 10k is actually wasteful, verified by analysis, which is the only way to really know. It depends radically on driving conditions (but only slightly on the quality of the oil because we're fortunate to have no bad engine oils on store shelves in the US). Same goes for filters, but even more so, since they're actually less efficient brand-new than after some miles. If you don't do many short trips, go ahead and do 10k; no point throwing your money and time away not to mention wasting the oil.
I'm old school and listen to the mechanics. My Honda dealer even puts on a 5,000 mile sticker after oil changes. I go 7,000
I’m buying one. I’ve researched everything and for a suburbs dad of 1, it’s the best option.
Right my Wife daily drives Her 2020 Black Edition, Can't get Her to drive Her 2020 Civic Sport Sedan anymore 🧐
There’s always going to morons on the internet. The ridgeline is the most practical truck on the market.
Been researching every midsize truck offering, and the Ridgeline makes the most sense for me. For the serious off roader or someone that has a need for larger towing, obviously look elsewhere. But those are the only categories Ridgeline falls short on. Functionality is superior, it’s roomier, rides nicer, and has a larger payload than some of the other mid size trucks. And you’re not going to get beat up at the gas pump.
Well said, I would agree. Thanks for watching
Do you find that you do not need mud flaps? I noticed you do not have any. I'm picking up a 24 Trailsport in a couple of weeks and I am contemplating adding either the oem splash guards, hpd mud flaps, or the weather tech mud flaps. Thanks in advance.
I don't feel like I need them at all but I'm thinking about 1" wheel spacers for a more agressive stance in which case I'll add them in front. Thanks for watching
New subscriber and future Ridgeline owner. The Ridgeline is enough truck for the majority of people. 👍
Love my 2022 Ridgeline RTL E
Honda Ridgeline is the best midsize truck right now. I would say the Frontier is as good but the Ridgeline is all time 4wd and the others are rear wheel drive 4x4
Just bought a 2021 ridgeline, I like that it’s AWD and not part time 4x4 like other midsize truck. It’s for light outdoors and camping only.
Exactly why I chose the Ridgeline as well. It rides better than my Mercedes ML 550. I havnt had to beg my son (F150 he waited over a year for a part and was at the dealer to go to the dump since. lol Love my ‘22 as well.
Honda Ridgeline..... The thinking man's truck
I test drove a 23 Frontier. I thought it drove great. Biggest issue for me was the back seat. They didnt change from the previous model.
Smaller cabin on the Frontier and no telescoping steering column was a deal killer for me. The new Frontier could have been so much much better
@@parkwayclassics8443 I agree. I like the looks better than the Ridgeline. But, as you mentioned, they should have gone further than just a facelift.
I try so hard to like the ridgeline but i just cant bring myself to. I can see the love you have for the vehicle. Great work.
I own one and love it, but it’s dying for an update. The design was bland when it released… 10 years ago
With the light refresh of the 2024 model, do you think it is worth it to get a new 2024 vs a 2023, if there is a roughly $10k difference in price? For context, the 2023 already has just over 30k miles. I know that 2024 is slightly better, but I don't know if it is worth $10k more. But also the 30k miles in 1 year on the 2023 is a bit concerning as well.
If you're buying the 2023 from a dealer and if... and only if you can get a detailed service history on it I'd go for the 2023. I much prefer the fold-down arm rests and the center console storage on the 2023. I also don't care for RIDGELINE stamped into the Tailgate steel on 2024. Honda should have left well enough alone.
The people who tend to talk smack about the Ridgeline tend to be people who bought a truck for ego reasons.
yep..... There are a lot of people driving around in big trucks who don't need them and are not using them for their intended purposes. Are they trying to compensate for something?
We are now on our fourth Ridgeline, all which have been purchased used with anywhere from 33 to 80,000 km. The first was a 2007 purchased in 2010, second was a 2012 touring, the third was a 2020 touring and now driving a 2022 Touring. It was my wife that first wanted a Ridgeline. I was never sold on these “wanna be” trucks. We live out in a rural area and need to haul water, pull fifth wheel campers, gooseneck trailer’s therefore I drive a 3/4 or now a 1 ton pickup truck. She was determined to buy a Ridgeline and used the excuse that she seen one with a Honda quad in the back, so I could “haul mine with it if I wanted to”. Well after the first one we have enjoyed them all. The first two were driven a couple hundred thousand km each before we upgraded to a newer model. The only maintenance required, other than brakes and tires, is to get the timing belt replaced every 100,000 km(63,000 miles) to avoid a catastrophic engine failure. The third one(2020 black Touring), was to be our retirement vehicle but my wife was in an accident and wrote it off. She had a few bruises and needed to see a chiropractor but has fully recovered. The safety features of the Ridgeline are great, collision avoidance, multiple air bags all played a role to keep her safe. We are now enjoying our 2022 Touring which came with transferable OEM extended warranties as well as glass, rim & paint coverage. I have put on running boards, lockable tonneau cover, LED high beam and LED driving lights and a second set of studded winter tires. We plan to continue the activities that all the Ridgeline’s have done including towing the pontoon boat, hauling large items, traveling in comfort and whatever else is required. Great (ok, I’ll say it) truck!
Wow! what a great testimonial for the Ridgeline. I hope mine gives me such great service. Sadly for 2024 Honda eliminated the folding armrests which I love and they have stamped RIDGELINE into the tailgate steel which I don't like but it shouldn't be a deal killer for anyone. Cheers..... and thanks for watching
Did the tires go over the wheel wells?
Easily because the wheel wells in a Ridgeline only stick up about 2" and there's 49" between them
Bought a 2023. Best deal in trucks hands down. Toyota was just crazy with what they were asking for a base model.
New truck prices are insane! The Ridgeline isn't cheap but their year over year price increases have been reasonable. you get a lot for the money. Enjoy...
nice vehicle, but be honest, the ridgleine is not a truck.
Legally it is.
@@trenton1190 in some regressive blue states, it is legal for men to sleep with another man, or their pets. doesn't make them correct, or moral, just perverted. same with the ridgeline, calling it a truck doesn't make it a truck.
@@billw8476 I didn't realize the definition of truck was found in the Bible. My fault.
Hello sir, do you have any problems with your CV axle after the lift kit? Do you ahve 20k plus miles after the lift?
I test drove one just yesterday. It was a burgundy/red color just sparkled in the sunlight. It was awesome. I bought it after the test drive. Love it!
Good move! Enjoy
The new version is just so meh. They should have kept the old Avalanche design. I liked those.
I love the practicality...I'm an electrician and am thinking this will do!
A lot of the unpopularity has to do with the American mindset that you have to buy the 'beefiest' truck that can tow 15k+ lbs while never utilizing the capability simply so they can boast to their friends.
Had trouble understanding the name of the channel you were recommending at 1:15. Turns out it's CampingRandy. Appreciate the suggestion, have subscribed to yours and his now as well. Considering a Ridgeline.
Good luck and thanks for watching
I have leased four Toyota Tacoma‘s and one GMC Canyon Denali and now drive a Honda Ridgeline, wish I would have gotten into a Honda sooner
same opinion. 👍
I've driven body-on-frame trucks all my life, but I love my 2018 Ridgeline and its ride quality, utility, and engine. I'm looking at upgrading to a newer model with the 9-speed because I don't like the 6-speed.
I'm very critical of modern day transmissions but I've got to say the ZF 9 speed is about as good as they get. Buttery smooth shifting and it never feels like it's hunting for gears
@@parkwayclassics8443 The 6-speed surges when it downshifts while slowing down. It's not a good transmission in my humble opinion.
Switchbacks are probably the BEST (lighter) cruiser for riding 2-up -weight-wise. it's GVWR is 1,170lbs (as equipped) - 720lbs for the bike itself (wet) = 450lbs. I aint no lightweight (@290) but still have enough room (payload wise) for my sweetheart -in case she says: "Honey, I'm bored"...
Thanks for watching.... I regret selling it, but I'm enjoying a Road King now. (The Switchback's big brother)
Why would you want your RL look like a Rivian? There are tons of Rivians where I live and they all look terrible. Love the wheels.
Just a light hearted comment but I love the look with those 20" wheels. What I love most of all is that I haven't seen another one like it! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the video! Couple of questions. 1. What year passport rims are those? Were they expensive? 2. Have you installed the front leveling kit? The stance looks good. 3. Have you noticed a soft brake pedal? I have to pump mine once for a harder pedal. Thank you
I had a 1.5" leveling kit but just removed it because I hit a deer and they couldn't re-program the ADAS with the lift installed. That is a Honda issue all the way. The rims are take-offs from a 2022 Passport EXL. I paid 800.00 for the set on Facebook Marketplace otherwise they're around 700.00 list each from Honda. Thanks for watching....
One last question, after adding the 20"rims, what size tires did you run?
255/50/20 vs. the stock Passport 265/45/20. I wanted a little more side wall
Is the car lifted?
I had a 1'1/2" leveling kit up front which was just removed because after hitting a deer and having minor body damage, they couldn't re-program the ADAS system. I'll be putting up a video on this whole ordeal very soon
