Using WoodMaxx WM-8H wood chipper to clean up brush after Maine windstorm 2017. Unbelievable how well this little machine works with my B7800 Kubota. Have tried DR, but arms tired from pushing wood. Tried Patu DC-40 hydraulic, but tractor didn't have enough hydraulic output to make unit perform well. This WoodMaxx is the cat's meow with my tractor. Can't believe how well it chips these large pi...

I like the motor set up you have but I can’t seem to find it online do you happen to have any info on it or a link to where I can buy one?
whats the numbers on motor and where did you get it i am doing the same as you putting a cab on
Apparently hyperlinks don't work on RUclips. Anyway I just went on Amazon and ordered a motor from Carolina tarps. I got a late duty 700 watt one they're designed to roll tarps on a dump truck but they work great for this too.
Very Good Video. I also have a B7800 tractor with a Curtis cab along with a Frontier 64" wide snowblower. It's been a great unit for snow removal here in Maine I've been thinking about getting mirrors but was concerned they may not provide enough visibility to judge clearance of snow blower from driveway guide stacks or sides of buildings I snow blow next to. I prefer snow blowing at night and have plenty of rearward lighting. Do you find the mirrors work well for you or do you find the need to look rearward also ?
What electric motor did you use?
So I went online on Amazon actually. And I just looked up a tarp motor for rolling tarps on like a dump truck. And then I just matched the shaft size so I could get the right one. It was from Carolina tarps.
How do you isolate the motor from the blower to isolate it from the body ground
the sound is not good I am quite disappointed
Turn your speakers up. The sound is fine.
the video image is too poor, you need to fix it more
Yeah thanks
Do you know of a joystick that would be in place of the switch. Asking because I want to do this project with an electric actuator for the shoot deflector. Up/down for that and left/right for the directional motor
I can't post links in here, on Amazon, search for "Baomain Monolever Joystick Switch HKA1-41Z04". It's a single-pole switch though (not double-pole), so you can't reverse the polarity at the switch, so you will need 2 of these "Forward and Reverse Relay Module for Motor/Linear Actuator, Reversing Relay Module " from Amazon, 1 for Up/Down, 1 for Left/Right. Alternatively, so could use 4 automotive relays, 2 for U/D, and 2 for L/R, and google search for "reverse polarity relay diagram" for how to wire each pair of relays. The reason for the relays is that because the switch only open/close the circuit, it would always send the same polarity, so the motor would always spin the same way.
You're seriously suggesting this is the best??
It is strugling. It will take for ever to get any serious work done. Thanks
I have this exact model. I had some trouble getting it to feed medium (2-3") sized limbs. The limbs did not like getting past the feeding wheel. Is there a size adjustment that I need to tweak? Spring adjustment? Should I slow the feeder speed? Any help is most appreciated!
Please explain the symptoms a little more. How fast is the infeed roller rotating? Does your tractor big down? What type of wood? Does the infeed grab the wood?
@@larryjewett6990 Thanks for the reply! No, the infeed does not grab the larger limbs. It is currently turned all the way up (speed). I have to use the opening level to help feed it in. Sometimes, this process is laborious and futile. Tractor has plenty of power, wood is either fir or big leaf maple- species doesn't seem to matter, though.
@@jeffcesta2493 It might be that you have it turned up too high and it is just spinning on the wood. It should move slowly and feed the chipper knives at a rate that they can handle. Try slowing it down.
@@larryjewett6990 Thank you sir. That helped some, but I still have to wrestle the larger pieces in. My wrestling technique is improving, though. I also noticed that putting the narrow end into the chipper first allows it to gradually feed and work up to the larger diameter. It's not something that many people probably try. Most feed the thicker end in first because branches fold in better. Thanks for your help!
@@jeffcesta2493 If the tree is Soo large that the infeed roller will not ride up over it and grab it, you can push down on the red bar and raise the roller so it can grab the tree. If you are chipping trees at the upper limit, your infeed roller should be going real slow, or it will feed the tree faster than the flywheel can chip it.
as much as I like this chipper, the only weak link is it's tendency to plug up when chipping a lot of small softwood branches.
It is not powerful enough
Very nice wood chipper.thank you for sharing
thanks ah
good work ah
Do you say "AH" A BUNCH
Thanks Larry, I appreciate your video as I thought I was going crazy. Excellent job👍👍👍
what yr is the blower and the tractor - is it one or two stage blower?
44" 2 stage. I sold that tractor and have another one.
We’re did you get the motor for the conversion? Do you have part number?
Ebay. You need to just do an internet search and it is hit or miss.
I was lucky and found one like someone else had used. It was a no name unit.
Nice job now I'm inspired
I’ve got this chipper on my b7610. Works great.
Great setup. Thx for the video.
Couldn’t bring myself to spend the $350 Canadian on these mirrors so have tried several different solutions. The one that worked for me was buying cheap golf cart mirrors and epoxying a good quality magnet to the base. This allows me to relocate the mirrors if I want, easy break away if I hit something, and they transfer from the frame of the doorless cab to the doors without issue, and without having to drill or fasten anything to the OEM framing.Quick cheap, and super functional.
Very good! The mirrors can be purchased from other sources as well. I believe that at the time that I bought them, I discovered that they were also used on some Jeep models and other vehicles.

Hi Larry do you still use your WoodMaxx chipper?
Definitely. Love it.
How does the electric motor turn the inserted bolt?
Sorry late response. I drilled through it and inserted a bolt at the lower location and pin in the upper position.
Heck ya I’m in Maine and I have a toro wheel horse 520h I also the the bucket loader and rear tiller
Larry, you did a fine job with the Curtis Cab Mirror installation. You're right, I don't think anyone else has a video on Curtis mirrors. I was looking for installation instructions for the Curtis Canopy. I found nothing....so I'm making an installation video now. Thanks for your video and have a fine week. New Subscriber!!
Thank you. Glad that I could help.
I would appreciate if you can share your worm drive motor brand from Ebay? And rocker switch brand too.
It doesn't have a name on it. I messaged the seller and he doesn't have any more at this time. I recommend that you search the internet for something similar. I have noticed some with a shaft instead of a hole. It would be easy to make a coupler. Sorry.
I will check the rocker switch brand tommorow night when I get home.
@@larryjewett6990 You really did an excellent job to make it looks so professional.
@@larryjewett6990 Thank you.
was that window regulator for a particular vehicle? That might answer some of the viewers question as to what type of motor you are using. I would have liked to see how fast 150 RPM rotates the chute, please add another video showing your chute rotation device in operation.
I think it is too big to be a window regulator. I'll take a video this afternoon.
I have added another video entitled "3 point hitch snowblower chute rotator in action" . I couldn't figure out how to add it to these comments.
What hp is the tractor
B7800, 30hp, nice work horse.
That tractor has 22 hp at the PTO, which is what matters. Min for the chipper is PTO 19 hp so clearly it does well for smaller tractors.
Thank you
Hello Larry, I too am in Maine.... up beside Fryeburg. Sick of the snow yet? I love this idea but when i search EBAY with what you have listed I don't find any motors with a through hole for the shaft. Do you have an actual part number or model number, something I can do an internet search for? Thanks and think Spring!
I'LL find it and provide link.
@@larryjewett6990 I think I sent you a PM on facebook. I searched EBAY and found nothing like this motor so a brand or model number would allow me to look other places beside EBAY. The link would be good too because maybe they relisted some and the search just isn't finding it. Thanks again, Guy
I sent a message to the Ebay seller to see if he has more or has source information. There are some with shafts in the gearbox. You could probably use one of those if you created a coupler with a bolt to the shaft. Will let you know what I find. 207-212-9632 text or call. Thanks
As my Curtis cab mirrors didn’t come with any instructions, this video was a life saver to say the least. Very good pictures and walk thru that is easy to follow. Thanks Larry!!😊
Would you or did you consider a rearview mirror rather than side mount? I see that Curtis offers both and I am trying to decide on which will give me best rear viewing functionality.
I would tend to go with both. I was thinking while snowblowing this last storm that it would be nice to have a rear view. I need to check feasibility since rear Curtis cab panel is plastic. Not sure how visibility would be through clear plastic. I would not get rid of side mirror s because they allow me to see snowblower edges for clearance near obstacles. Not possible with rear view. I also added driveway markers to the sides of the snowblower to help with backing visibility. Mirrors are same as autos. I use both center and side. Side more than center. thanks
Glad to finally see someone put some decent size wood in there to show how it works. Instead of twigs.
It will take up to 6-8" wood. You have to adjust the feed rate according. Slower for ha d wood, faster for soft woods. Even faster for small brush.
Thank you so much, i too was quite disappointed with the instructions. You save me a ton of time, I feel like I should buy you a beer, thanks fellow Kubota Brother.
This same machine came up used on Craigslist early this year for $1800. I have kicked myself a hundred times for not getting it. It was only up for a few days and it looked great. I like that it has dual I feed rollers.
Did you consider other brands or models before buying this one? I like the looks of it, but I am also eying the woodland mills wc88 as well.
I had 3 different models before finding this one used. I started with a DR and got tired of pushing brush into it. I tried a Valby with Hydraulic feed, but tractor didn't have enough hydraulic capacity to run the feed. This one works great with the hydraulic pump running off of the PTO.
I like the three bearing design on the woodmaxx, but I like the fold up chute on the W.M. Machine. I hear you on pushing the brush in...I have a craftsman 8 HP and it wears me out to produce a few chips. I hate the direct drive with the engine sucking all the leaves and pine needles in, not to mention all the trimming you have to do to even get brush through. It doesn't do very well shredding leaves either, even with the baffle in. My friend has a DR with 18 HP he'll sell me for $300, but I need something bigger. There is a like new wallenstein BX62 an hour from me for $2750, a great deal, but it also runs off the tractor's hydraulics and I have an old IH B414 diesel with no remotes. I can run a remote, I have to shut off my 3 pt hitch lift, so I want one with a self contained hydraulic system. I don't like Woods because of expensive special drive belts, that more or less levels me looking at woodmaxx, woodland mills, and betstco.Betstco is $2250, woodmaxx is $3000, and woodland mills is $3200. Other option is to find a used old Promark 310 or Vermeer 6XX, both seem a little under powered, old chuck and ducks are out there, but they have a lot of repair and maintenance in my price range.
So I had never heard of Valby before and I just went to do a little research. Didn't find a lot of info. They look pretty good, but no pricing listed, and I wonder where they are made?
@@vclubamp made in Finland.
I like the little one that Simeon over on the Swedish Homstead uses with his little kiote tractor. I notice he has to tie off his pto lever to keep it from jumping out of gear, but it pulls okay. It's made in Poland, but I can't tell the brand. I would like to have an 8" machine just like it; his is a 6"
Why the 23hp Honda?
Blew the rear valve seat on original engine. Needed a quick replacement so went with Honda replacement.
I blew the rear valve seat on the original Onan. Repowered with the Honda.
If u really need directions for mirrors have someone more knowledgeable install them
Thanks for the comment. I assume that you watched the full video? The instructions were lacking and Curtis technical department could not help with better illustrations. Since I bought the mirrors online, I'm not sure who I might have hired to install them with adequate knowledge. Also, I generally don't pay to have work done that I can do myself, or figure out how to do myself.
ABCABC: really. You think your response is worth the time it took you to type it. Larry: I very much appreciate you taking the time to make this video as I am currently attempting to figure out the best mounting approach for mirrors on my Curtis cab. My tractor is small and so the allowance on the cab for mounting points is lacking. You’ve given me some clarity as to how the brackets mount and their dimensions. as you have pointed out the instructions are weak at best
you have any part recommendations?

Is that at full throttle?
Yes, I always run the tractor at full throttle. That's the procedure for hydrostatic transmissions.

Hi Larry, I have a 520 with a tired Onan. Did you buy the Honda from a repower specialist or do the conversion yourself?

It was from a repower outfit - Small Engine Warehouse. They don't sell the Hondas any more. Only Briggs. You need bearings on both ends of the crankshaft. Honda only has one.
