2005-2009 Mustang GT (TR3650) Sloppy shifter fix. Bracket and linkage bushing replacement.
Просмотров 14 тыс.2 года назад
Eliminate the play in your shifter! This video will apply to 2005-2009 manual mustang GTs and possible others with the TR3650 5 Speed Transmission. Over time the poly bushings in the shifter bracket AND in the linkage connecting your shifter to the transmission wear out causing a lot of play. Here is a chart that shows all transmissions by year and model: lmr.com/products/Mustang-Transmissions-...
It’s bad ball joints making the upgrade to ford performance lower control arms and that should do the trick. Saw my ball joint pop when we had it on the lift
Those red bushings made my car squeak going over bumps. Maybe some kind of lube?....
Thanks man! Great video. I’ll be using it this weekend!
I have a 2004 mustang mach 1 and my front end clunk so bad and loud when over bumpy roads bit stops it's so aggravating I'll check this and see
My issue on my 2006 gt only pops when I take off from a dead stop. Other than that I never hear it. Never happens on the road or when I accelerate on the road. Any suggestion which one these might be the cause?
Dude, I just installed the MGW shifter and it feels great but I am going to change the linkage copper fittings to what you recommend. Thank you for the video.
It helped me!!!! Thank you!!!
I'm having an issue where it shifts fine, but the shifter doesn't "stay". I can hammer 1 2 3 4 5 no issues, but when it's in gear the shifter has way to much play side to side. will these brass bushings correct that as well?
No, mines like that too
@@bpifitness7406 darn. So this didn't fix it eh? Any idea how to actually fix that?
Not that I know of. I think that’s just how they are cause of the way the linkage is set up. Every one of driven was floppy like that.
@@bpifitness7406 darn. It wasn't like that originally. Just got worse and worse. Guess it's something you live when when it's almost a 20 year old car
@@TratzPatratz yeah. Always thought it would be cool to swap to a t56 but probably not worth it haha
I just needed to tighten my sway bar link mount 😂 video made me get some more clips for the wheel well cover though!
Nice! Easy fix
This is the BEST video on swapping the s197 shifter
Thank you so much! seen these bronze bushings but wasn't sure if those fits my shifter or not, got same Hurst shifter and your video was EXACTLY what i was looking for. Cheers!
You saved my life with this video, very good job :)
But what if its Clunking feelable in the flor when the Car comes to a Stop?
i have this problem with my 2014 convertable left front. i’ve checked the lugs and i have to change the longitudinal braces anywho so i’ll be under it. I’ll be following this video step by step. TY!!
Good luck!
I just finished this mod. I removed the shift paul on the top of the transmission (6:18). Wow, that was not for the faint of heart, even with my driveshaft removed it was a difficult. Now the rest of the mod was easy. But that part on the trans, they must put some strong thread locker on that. On the tightening of the nuts, (3:43) if you tighten them down too tight the shifter will be too tight. Only takes a smidge of a loosening of the nut to make it perfect. Overall a great mod to do (now that it's done).
I have coil overs on my 09 mustang and it makes loud clunking sounds when I brake and go over bumps. I replaced the sway bar end links but it’s still making that sound.
Did you replace the bushings where it’s held to the frame too? That’s where a lot of the noice come from. Easy way to know is take it for a drive without the sway bar on.
Your a life savor
So I bought brass bushings, but when I installed them it's REDICULOUSLY tight to shift. Is that normal?
Hard to say without feeling it. Should be tight for sure but not difficult I would say
I have this same exact issue. I installed them on my MGW. What'd you end up going to fix?
I had a strange noise coming from mine, so I got a new one...( Wife)
Thankyou, nice condensed and organized run down.
So these bushings and this procedure won’t work on the V6 T5. I’m trying to figure out how to do it on the T5 but when I look up the bushings it says T5& TR3650 like they are interchangeable.
Not interchangeable. T5 linkage feels way better than these ones though from my experience. Maybe just throw a short shifter in?
You forgot the brake pads and caliper issues
Hy saying nothing but facts I hate hearing my s197 making noise it’s not supposed to be
Thank you for the video , it’s appreciated my friend . I’ve got some shake from the front right passenger side , when I’m reaching 70mphs. and the rear drivers side tire is all greasy . Trying to find out exactly what’s happening.
A shake is usually just a tire out of balance. Maybe you just lost a balancing weight? Good luck hunting down that leak though!
Part number for the linkage I can’t find the part anywhere
Can you please let me know where you get all those parts from? Thanks
At the time I got them from eBay
Actually the red ones were from summit
Where can I get your front turn signal lights / DRLs from?
I ordered those from eBay 👍🏼 lots of options on there. Done it quite a few times over the years
@@bpifitness7406 Yeah, I searched and bought new ones lastly, but didn't see these. Would like them
The answer is usually the two front swaybar bushings and it’s the cheapest to fix so start there
When you buy bushings for the sway bar... how the crap are you supposed to get them on without cutting a slit in it??
This is tremendous! Thank you!
Great explanation! Thank you
ive got it cant find it everything still factory i thought brake caliper ill try sway bar then struts
currently got a "knock-off" kit same exact thing but no H branding,... the thing is those bushings are the culprits i have not installed it but i think it will do well with the bushings that didn't arrive with the kit thnx for the vid....
Does this apply to the v6 model too? My trans has some grinding problems too
No. Different tranny in the v6
hey bro, I watched your video the problem with mine was the bolt that you were talking about was a 14 mm mine came out and caused me not to be able to shift with any 14 mm bolt with the same thread at work
I got a 30000mile 2010 gt and the end links werclunking... shot caused excessive cluncking...now wheel seems loose? Any suggestions?
10 years later and my s197 is finally giving in 😢
I changed all my suspension components in my 2010 mustang. Still No luck. Finally found that my wheel bearing is making that clunking sound. 😅
Thank you I found and fix the problem you’re beautiful! I have an 09
I find it funny how you bypass all the problems that cause the damn noise to talk about some plastic s***
Thanks, followed you advice, cured my noise Problem, Thank You!
What was the issue ?
@@cristiansolis2688 most of the pins that hold the inner fenders in place were gone, also the sway bar bushings were bad, replaced the pins and bushings, no more noise
So, it could be around 30 different things. Thanks! 🤣
Great !! But the noise i always came from the back of the car in the s197 🥲
I wanted to say thanks for the video. I have a 2015 mustang and the noise was the swaybar. I just change the hole thing plus bushing and links. Thank you man you help me alot.
how much was all that?
Man’s is out here diagnosing and thoroughly addressing issues in depth while in a garage that looks about as warm as a walk in beer fridge in krogers. Mad respect.
Excellent information! I found that my inner fender liners need some fasteners replaced. I also found the K member fasteners, radiator bracket fasteners, and front sway bar bracket nuts all needed to be re-torqued.
I had this rattling on the front of my 2014 mustang found out it was my stabilizer bars had them replaced for one hundred thirty dollars parts and labor.
Installed this and wow what a difference!!! Probably one of the best purchases yet!!!
Will the parts fit on my original stock shifter as well?
Yeah. 90% sure. Been a long time since I swapped to after market shifter but from what I recall the factory bushings were the same.
@@bpifitness7406 lost a part but ordered the new one and got it installed and it feels great man. BIG DIFFERENCE ! My bushings were so worn out… great video man, THANKS !
Good video I’m gonna tackle this in the coming weeks
