Gregory Isaacs - Smile / Clint Eastwood - Jump & Pawn / Revolutionaries - Version

'Smile' was originally recorded by the Silvertones at Studio One. This version, by Gregory Isaacs, closes his excellent 1978 LP 'Mr Isaacs', which was initially issued on Ossie Hibberts Cash & Carry label. It has subsequently been reissued on the Blood and Fire label and is readily available. Clint Eastwood's 'Jump and Pawn' was issued on a 7" on the Ossie Sounds label. It has also seen reissue...

This track is from 1974. Issued on the M M Record label and produced by G. Murphy. The version sounds like a Tubby's mix. Good solid stuff. homepage.mac.com/dubstar/ronnie_davis/ronnie_davis_interview.html
The Blackeyed Susans - The Good Life Never Ends
Просмотров 7 тыс.14 лет назад
This song was written by David McComb and performed by his last band, Costar. David McComb's untimely death in early 1999 meant that it was recorded, but never formerly released. Rob Snarski, of the Blackeyed Susans, performed the song with heartfelt verve as part of the Triffids re-union show, 'A Secret In the Shape Of A Song'. It was a real highlight for me at the Sydney show I attended in Ja...
We Live A Long Long Time To Get Old By Jimmy Murphy
Просмотров 13 тыс.14 лет назад
Jimmy Murphy (born October 11, 1925, Birmingham, Alabama - d. June 1, 1981) was an American country and rockabilly guitarist and singer-songwriter. Murphy's father, a bricklayer, was a blues enthusiast, and so the young Murphy grew up listening to musicians such as Lead Belly and Blind Boy Fuller. Murphy had already made it to radio by the middle of the 1940s, appearing on local station WBRC's ...

thank the good Lord above for Dick Spottswood who literally resurrected this amazing singer/player from sheer obscurity.
+Maximus Wolfe Dick Spottswood currently on bluegrasscountry.org Saturday at midnight-2am repeated Sunday afternoon 3-5 pm And again I think repeated on Tuesday night between 10 pm and midnight is one of the top Ethno-Musicologists on the Planet and does a SPLENDIFEROUS radio program! This indeed is a Fantastic Jimmy Murphy tune! The young Americana singer Robbie Fulks does a nice live spirited version right here on RUclips as well. Enjoy! Good to see a fellow Spottswood fan amongst us here on YT! I understand Dick Spottswood also is a major devotee of RUclips as well( as is the always lovely Linda Ronstadt!)
MusicMC1 thanks for the info brother.
Joe Bussard turned me on to him. I met him when I was a canvasser. He invited me in and played me records and sold me tapes (lol). He told me to come back any time and bring friends if I'd like, which I did more than once. I bought a tape with all of Jimmy Murphey's old sides on it. Later found 2 cds. Just bought a 3rd on Amazon today. I'm playing this song on guitar now with slide. Nowhere near as good, but it's fun to play.
Beautiful combination!
I totally agree John. Lucky enough to see Dave with Costar supporting my friend's band at a little place in Fitzroy about a month before he died - special!
2013
Just found these guys, fuck yes. listened to the herd for a time but never heard this.
Lovely tune with typical lyrics (from what I've seen of David's work, and I do so love his way with words). Thanks for sharing. It is one of my biggest regrets that I missed -inexplicably- the concert the Triffids played in '89, mere metres from my house at the time...
This is startling good. While all those idiots at the Billboard Awards are celebrating their sugar coated tunes -- songs with meat on them -- like this one -- are ignored. If there's any justice a big name like Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, or even Michael Buble -- would embrace this David McComb song and elevate his talent once and for all. "Trick of the Light," would be next.
Thanks for this upload. I heard this tune years ago on bbc (JB's documentary) and loved it, finally now i know who its by and can listen.
Love both Sparkle Girl & the music - what's the track called please?
photoshopped
@v33dubius damn straight!! And Im a Radadelaidian!
Wow. Thanks for the upload. Jimmy was something else
J.B. you are the man, without people like u this music would be dead and gone.
great travelin' tune, beautiful lyrics
Thanks for this one! Been a Triffids fan since BSD and visited the Triffids train last weekend in Belgium. Gorgeous songs & performances. Bye David..
THE PHATTEST!!!
Well danced. It is just a pleasure to watch the evolution of our own Aussie Tribal dancers :-)
