I live down the jersey shore and my house is up on pilings its about 10 up in the air....and the projection area i have to work with is about 15-20 ft back....my house is about 35-40 ft wide....am i able to make it work..i can send a pic
What equipment is necessary to do this?
@@HillSt.Gym. step 1 shows everything you need to make it happen. fxprojections.com/house-shows
Amazing!! Thanks for the tutorial into my next exciting adventure!!
I just bought the luxedo and have been playing around with it. I tried several backgrounds from the dashboard and all were washed out which I'm assuming is from the red brick of my house. I see yours are on what appears to be a white house. What can I do to get a better background that pops like you have?
@@solallc9744 red brick is very difficult to project on. You should be able to go into the projector settings and mess with the brightness/contrast/hue/saturation which will help a tad.. but the solution that will really help the most is painting your brick or buying a projector that is much brighter unfortunately
@@fxprojections9769 Thank you!
love the video, cant wait to try and do this if i can learn all the software and find a projector
may i ask how wide your house is, mine is about 44ft and finding a small projector with a short through to cover that wide of an area is not working for me , even if i used the same one your using it says max width is 144" on projector central or am i looking at this all wrong ?
@@CrunchEnhancer mine is 53 feet. Ignore that part of projector centrals specs as these projector can go much larger than what they have listed. That's just the "recommended Max listing" but they all can go much larger
The reason the Epson is so much brighter than the Optima is the Epson is 3 LCD vs Optima DLP. DLP uses a colour wheel that effectively cuts colour brightness in half while keeping white at full lumens. 3 LCD outputs every colour at full lumens / brightness. My 4000 lumen Epson has brighter colours than my expensive 7000 lumen DLP Panasonic projectors!
The soulless geeks in our neighborhood are grinching inflatable snowmen so there’s no way I’m leaving an $800 projector outside. 😖
@@eauneau that's why most of us use earth anchors holding the enclosure down. Extremely hard to pull out of the ground that way.

Is the Epson short throw? If I need one cover the ceiling if an event tent , do I need a long throw or short throw …?
@@chidoribird it's a short throw. Every 1/2 foot back the projector goes, the projections will be 1 foot wide on the surface

@@kprimm1967 thank you!!
So just for clarification, in this video you physically have the Epson projector on the left, yet it's projecting to the right side? Why is that? Are you sure the Epson's image isn't projecting on the left?
@@RoyGregorio where the projectors are placed at in the yard is overall irrelevant because they are technically covering the whole house when I'm not masking it out in sections per projector. I probably should have made that more clear in the video.. but yeah the way I explained is correct with which one is which on the house.
@@fxprojections9769 Thanks for clearing that up. I was hoping you made a mistake, because I already ordered the Optoma. Which one did you end up keeping? or both?
@@RoyGregorio I used the Epson on the front of the house still. The Optomas are still solid projectors though!
How do you make something like this if your gonna projection map a still person?
@@JuanitoSalvo you could snap a picture of them, do the editing in the software of that picture and then reproject it back on to them
How should I Do to buy it and how it would look like if I have only one projector
i recently purchased a 230 inch outdoor movie screen ... do you think the Epson would be a good projector for movies? Their website says the Epson can only go up to about 150 inch but wondering why they limit that spec.
@@CryptoQuest1 it will absolutely work fine with that size! Not exactly sure why they limit the sizes but I believe it's more of a "recommendation" than what it can do
@@fxprojections9769 thank you for the quick reply! God bless
Would the Epson Projector also work to display digital decorations in a window? Would it be too bright?
@@mtnestr9850 you can use the Epson for that but you can also go cheaper and not as bright for a window. The average $100-$200 projector from Amazon would do just fine for that
I would like to have the option of using the projector for house projections or for window projections. My current projector is 800 ansi but I would like it to be brighter for my window projection. I was hoping the Epson Projector would work for both and also work as a movie projector.
@@mtnestr9850 it will absolutely work for both! 👍

this is awesome, where you get the clips of the book ? and the cauldron scene to edit it from , did you take from the movie ?
@@msservingjustice thank you! This was from random RUclips clips.. I had to Rotobrush them out of the scenes so that's why the edges look funky.
@@fxprojections9769 could you point me to the clips - im trying to do project for a big party and need to put the Cauldron one on a loop .. thanks
I have the optoma 2100. My house is 60 feet wide. I'm having trouble getting my whole house in the view of the projector without loosing clarity. What do you suggest?
@@dodgeman577 interesting.. I'm assuming you've used the focus knob on top of the projector. They're does hit a point where if you are far enough back, certain projectors at certain distance can't focus that far out.. but that projector should be good at 60 feet. Are the projections blurry or just pixelated? It's expected being that far back for pixels to be almost the size of a finger nail.
Would you share your green screen clips with me?
@@WelshTerminator_ I wish these were green screen clips.. then it would have saved me a lot of time! I had to rotobrush them all in after effects show
@@fxprojections9769 I had a feeling this was going to be the case. 😂😂 Thanks for getting back to me though and this is such a great show also.
Thanks for this! I too was looking for a comparison like this. Do you animate your own shows or do you get the assets from somewhere?
@@chado6287 glad it helped!! I mainly use AtmosFx characters but a lot of the other stuff/effects is me and piecing it together.
@@fxprojections9769 Amazing! thanks for the tip and response :D
Very cool! I may go broke...
@@EdHarrell1 thank you! It's not a cheap hobby lol I tried to keep all the kits reasonably priced though for the DIYers
Thanks for doing this comparison. I believe one big difference is the max width of an image. The Epson from what I see only goes roughly 10 feet wide. The Optoma goes roughly 35 feet wide. That's a big difference if you have a very wide home. Thanks again.
@@randykassebaum8815 all 3 of these projectors can cover the full length of an average sized house. If you are going based off the projectors spec sheets, this is a recommendation but they can go much bigger as shown in the video. Hope that helps!
Where can I find a projector like this?
@@vampirerodgers2890 check out my website fxprojections.com under "house shows" it has all the info to make it happen 👍
What kind of projector do I need for this and is it cheap?
@@vampirerodgers2890 I responded to your other comment but my website has all the info (fxprojections.com) it's not exactly cheap though 1-2kish depending on which projector you get along with how many shows.
I read all the comments and didn't find the answer. First of all, I want to thank you for this wonderful video comparison. It looks like Epson leaves no chance to Optoma, and the choice is obvious, but for people who plan to map not only at house, but also various objects in a dark room, not only color reproduction is important, but also black levels. (So that there is no ugly black square around your object, like in this video: ruclips.net/video/vXl7mOs1-vA/видео.htmlsi=v9tNAIyZ4oqjl3Ty ) Have you compared projectors on this parameter, because I have no doubt about the color reproduction with technology 3LCD, but black levels and contrast make me worry. Thanks in advance for your answer!
@@thelasttrip5094 Solid question! I haven't had any issues with this since most of the time it isn't a pitch dark environment I'm doing projection mapping in. Any slight ambient lighting around what you are projecting on shouldn't make the "black square" noticable. I've never noticed it on a house or building but I'm sure in a pitch dark room it would be.
For this Halloween, I’m doing a magic mirror from Snow White projection so I’m only getting a cheaper $100 projector but how do I loop a video that’s on a usb flash drive?
@@Capturedthrills the cheaper projectors often times have a built in media player so you might be able to plug a flash drive directly into the projector and have it play/loop. You'd need to check the projectors settings
@@fxprojections9769 ok thank you :)
If the mapping is about the size of a small room, are the cheaper projectors fine? I've been searching for projectors that can make my room look like it's underwater!!
Yeah you should be able to do a cheaper one for a room size wall 👍
amazing
Not sure if I missed it, but how old was the epsons bulb at time of making this video? Would be interesting to see another comparison after a few hundred hours of use on it. I do believe the 3LCD tech is known to show brighter colors as you demonstrated, but not sure how well that hold up with bulb age.
The Epson was brand new. Since it's laser it's rated for 20,000 hours and has a consistent gradual decline over it's lifespan from my understanding
Incredible result!
