Autopod is a game changer so nice to not have to cut angles for hours and hours
Here's a semi-technical breakdown for anyone who needs it: A compressor limits the loud peaks over a specified db level of the signal to make everything more "even" but because of the makeup gain also raises the soft end, and can introduce noise (especially f you don't have a good denoise software, or the signal isn't really clean and gain staged properly and recorded well). A multi-band compressor acts as multiple compressors at once for specific frequency ranges or bands. This is why music producers use specific analog compressors (or digital modeled plug-ins) to make things compress a specific way and add a specific sound (that's why the analog Universal Audio 1176 is the GOAT when it comes to rock music vocals).
Congratulations guys! Keep on crushing it!
Thank you so much, Austin!!! 🎉
Eric's 👹"LET'S DO A DAB" absolutely killed me. Also, Gene and Eric's top 2 films are pretty goated. I don't know if I can ever trust another word Braxton says after he put Batman vs Superman in his top 2.... Congrats on 100 episodes guys! Absolutely love the show! Also - Much love to Steven! Thanks for all the work my guy.
Congrats and love you all so much! So thankful for this community and this amazing podcast! That was an incredible episode! 🔥
Everyone trying to proceed as Eric offers to take over the podcast was such a great moment. Cheers, gents.
I love Steven, please be uncomfortable
Loved it! 50mm is indeed the best, no question. And shoutout to the legend Steven!
Interstellar 70mm IMAX gang! Flying across the country for this. 😂
People in SoCal can't drive either.
50mm is the best. And I can't poop very well during weddings since eating is non-existent and my stomach goes wild and hurts during dinner.
We love you all so much. THANK YOU for being here! Can't wait for the next 100 episodes :)
This episode is now responsible for my Dino cam purchase
Mission accomplished 🫡😂
Hey, does anyone have a link to the Mosaic newsletter that they mentioned. I can't remember the timestamp as I was listening in the car.
Hi Tom, we just added it to the description! We had only linked it in the audio versions on Spotify, Apple, etc.. Sorry for the confusion!
@@rallycapspodcast Hey, no worries. Thank you for adding it!
While it's definitely outside of traditional filmmaking, I hope that a day comes where vertical does make it's way into cinema more. I shot a feature back in 2020 in a vertical 3:4 aspect ratio. It's a really fun canvas to work in as a cinematographer. It's absolutely not for every project, but I do think that experimentation is the way forward for the medium, and aspect ratio is a great place for filmmakers to try new things. I guess it comes down to being intentional with creative decisions. Don't shoot vertical just because it's whats trending.
N i c e c h a t ! Tried posting my comment vertically...... Too far?
This is GENIUS 😂😂😂
This was a great conversation! Thanks lads. Braxton with the fire "we've stopped shooting for the print and started shooting for the posts." 🙌
44:14 Jurassic Park
44:33 Oh yeah, absolutely. RUclips is filled with poor information so that even I, being at the start of my career as visual creative, an spot so much crap, and it’s frustrating to see that complete beginners will be influenced by a bunch of garbage. I know a LOT more about music production and audio than visual media, and it almost makes me ANGRY that even some of the most successful and influential gear/filmmaking youtubers are, frankly, pretty incompetent in that field. Yet they’ll make a video that gets hundreds of thousands of views and people trust believe that they’re getting quality information. I could start a RUclips channel if I had any desire to do that. And I could "teach" a lot of stuff. But really, I’d rather keep my mouth shut and listen to people who actually know their stuff and learn from them. Otherwise, I’d mostly add to the noise that I, as a consumer, struggle to sift through when I’m searching for good information.
36:38 Does anyone know which instagram account Eric is referring to? Would love to check it out.
@theverticalmovie and @volentless
And they recorded this horizontal 😅 vertical videos is something natural. We still got eyes placed horizontal, but video formats always depends on needs. 4:3 because of television. Other ratios been for cinema screens. Now we have need for another important screen, which is our third hand - a phone.
What about Music Video ? Reels in 9:16 are getting all the glory (and budget) because that's on TIKTOK and in reels that your grab your fans, not on TV anymore....
Our arms and hands are also horizontal, so always holding a camera vertically just doesn't make sense. Also, a very niche audience you could market vertical cinema toward would be flounder fish.
The shower is a giant white noise machine, basically masking out external distractions and noises and letting your thoughts surface easier. I'll create entire presentations and interview responses in my head in the shower and then write it all down when I get out. I've never felt more seen than now!
I loved hearing about the ghosts of images that you never take. I experience it both ways. On one hand, I take a video of something that I wish I had photographed and sometimes I photograph a subject that I wish I could tell more of the wholistic story in moving presentation. Regret is a great teacher.
Super relate the water thing dudes, can't concentrate without going in water first and actually feel nervous if I'm don't go in the water everyday

Yessss! Thanks so much for watching along!!!
Would love for Braxton and Cyrus to come back and do an episode breaking down that speck add if they’re down for it!!
Heck yeah! We’ll totally consider something like that for a future ep!! ⚡️
Love the pod, boys!
Thank you so much!!
lmao making gene feel like he's 50
Hahahaha 😂
Awesome to hear from Cyrus. FlobergRun's videos have been 🔥
Cyrus is the man!!!
We mention these tips at the end of the episode, but here's a list of the broad strokes of everything we chatted about! 1. Reduce the input 2. Set end goals & be forward thinking 3. You have to fail in order to succeed 4. Start speaking
The BPN media team (past and present members) is on another level. I've drawn so much inspiration from their work.
Loved this one! The 2 day shoot you did to batch Eric’s content sounds like a great time investment for value-would love to hear more about it and how you mapped out the content you wanted to capture. Congrats on the PR btw Eric! What an accomplishment. No doubt you’ll grab sub 2:30. Your training is inspiring!
thumbnail goes hard
Thanks Dave!!
Hey guys, is there somewhere to watch the Joe Greer doc online, streaming? Thanks
Thanks for asking! It's not available online yet, but we have an update that we'll be sharing soon :)
Leica Q2, my Journal, gotta have my phone even though I don’t like a phone, a small Swiss Army knife cause they are so handy, Patternist is such a great musician, and Modern Family running in background
i regret to inform y'all that Bon Iver's SABLE, will only include 2 additional full songs to accompany Speyside. I'm sure it'll be great tho!
What are some of YOUR favorite things this season?!
Making this podcast <3
Welp, this conversation hit me between the eyes. This comment will be a doozy but it’s the real stuff: Though ideologically identical, I find myself in the reverse situation from Eric when it comes to daily work. I’ve been coding primarily from home with my wife and three children nearby for ~5 years. It’s been long enough that I see the need to branch out into a separate space for a couple of focused days a week. Though I hope to never trade three meals a day with them…it’s magical. I so appreciate Steven‘s breakdown of using what you know from various aspects of life to build new opportunities. Considering the past is so powerful - I had a camera in my hand when I was five and my only formal training is in multimedia production. That’s the path I’m taking to branch off in parallel with software development. Daily consistency (with a specific goal in mind) is totally the answer. Focused work at home when the doors are closed, fully present for family when the doors are open, hustle in the off-hours to build something new. The concepts of “laying bricks” added to the idea of mixing existing skillsets is so solid. Y’all are sitting on a gold mine there. That should be a book or another dozen episodes of another show. Keep up the good work! Thanks for being good examples of these concepts, gents. 🎩
“You have the looks to be a thirst trap” lmfao.
This channel deserves a lot of love

"its the compounding effect of being consistent and delivering on your word that really creates exponential growth" - Steven Schultz 2024

“You guys are the best” - Me, again 🥹❤️
Which part of the conversation did you resonate with most?!
Around the 17:40 mark, quantifying the 1% better each day is what I want to do. Being more strategic in the day to day. Hopefully it will bring clarity to growth, rather than an emotional “does it feel like I grew” mindset.
Being a jack of all trades is an awesome superpower! I’m into video and motion, and I’m also curious about coding. By combining my passions, I can create a unique skill set that sets me apart in my career.
Love this episode! What lens do you guys use most often on your Leica M6?
