Excellent points. The only benefits band have over campers are the stealth capabilities. I rented a VAN for a week and parked on NYC streets. Not a single cop knocked on my door.

The biggest benefit that made my decision is that a van can break down and even completely crater and then you have to start from scratch. If your truck completely craters, you just buy a different truck and throw your camper on top and away you go!

I remember when I was younger, my dad and I were with my old dog on the horse trails near my old neighborhood. We went down some new paths and didn’t know where we ended up. We told my very hyper yet sweet Border Terrier to go home and he went up the hill and around to the path that led us to the road outside of our neighborhood! His name was Rosco and I miss him all the time!

I used to do this with my horse. "Home Jeeves" was the command we used.

2003, we built our ExpeditionVehicle on a 1996 Ford CF8000 commercial truck. . Our insulation: * adhesive-back acoustic on the walls and ceiling, a gap, then * 1" pink-board, another air-gap, then * 2" foil-side poly. . We use a Wave 3 catalytic heater on 'LOW'. We rarely use the heater above about 40°f/4°c. . We always open two windows on opposite walls.

There's definitely a huge benefit to having your camper detachable. When a van dies, it dies and the whole kit out is attached to it. Campers like this can be put onto new trucks when the old one is too effed to keep running.

Is that Joshua tree? I went for an evening walk there about 25 years ago and all this fog came in and I couldn’t see 10 feet in front of me. Had to go to a nearby camper and get a ride back to my campsite.
