For some reason I thought you completed the Blood Link challenge a few scenarios ago.
@@MarcusAZ2022 I picked it as my challenge for a scenario but completely forgot about it if I remember correctly so I just put it back. On the previous patch of FHE the challenges were always randomized when you drew one but now they’ll go to the bottom correctly
@@ucgxanathos2171 Ah yes, I think you are right. I think it was the boat level. You followed it really well in the first couple rooms despite not remembering, then lost it in the last room.
I must've missed the video where you installed something to have more status effects. What is the mod that provides those? These seem really handy for keeping track of Retaliate and Shield, especially cause you can put numbers on those.
@@yuck2808 steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2891470311 subscribe to this and then you can do an additive load
That chest (86) doesn't exist in the first printing. I think it's been re-purposed in second printing to provide the Armor.
FYI, Ward/Brittle does go away when negating (either by losing a card or by Banner of Valor). Annoying for ward, but very nice for brittle.
yah lets go!!!!
That was wild!! Congrats on the victory
@@Watchfresh-bl yeah somehow it worked out despite the middle looking disastrous
Amazing content as always!
@@superlollooooo thanks!
What is the logic behind not adding the rolling modifiers to Deathwalker? Is it because it reduces the effectiveness of your deck if you draw it second on advantage/disadvantage?
@@MarcusAZ2022 yeah just makes it less likely to crit with advantage. There’s a good argument to still add them anyway
I agree with your taking the 2x over the rolling shield modifier on disadvantage. However, I think there is a case to be made that it’s NOT ambiguous. Monster movement is open info - so if you aren’t going to be attacked or able to utilize the shield, you might be able to argue that it’s just a +0 vs a 2X. You played Rules As Written, but brings up some interesting cases where things might not truly be ambiguous if the modifying won’t be used.
Excited to see the next GH speedrun as well! Would you consider making an overview video where you run through some of the characters used and their abilities, the levels and high level strategies? I only ever played a couple GH scenarios, so the speedrun flies by without me knowing what is going on most of the time 😂 I know you give some brief overview, but it’s during the run so it goes so fast!
@@MarcusAZ2022 yeah next time I upload a video for it I plan to go way more in depth with explanations
Personally, the duelist being cancelled out by the ice doesn’t feel right. I know that’s the rules as written, but doesn’t make sense thematically. I know Gripeaway (one of the developers) tends to bends some rules for the sake of thematic sense. He said that Isaac tends to be a thematic designer and places theme above mechanisms sometimes. I think a duelist would be totally fine walking away from some underground rocks.
@@MarcusAZ2022 yeah I think I agree with those arguments. Would have lost it in the final room anyway though if I remember correctly
@ some of this other house rules are: 1) he only applies power potions to a single attack action instead of the whole turn (I know you have your own nerf) 2) he uses stamina potions either on your turn OR between rounds so you can see what everyone else did. 3) he counts wound for kill credit as long as you can track who applied the wound that killed the enemy.
Fun one to watch! Such a wild scenario. I think my party is getting close to the end of the lurker storyline.
@@MarcusAZ2022 I generally really like when the scenarios tie gameplay elements into the storyline like permanent water but you can “swim” on driftwood, or ice floes where you have to kill the lurkers before they destroy your boat etc. Sometimes it doesn’t work too cleanly like the level where they break the bridge
Thanks alot mate for all ur effort and uploading constantly ur Frosthaven experiences. I have learned a lot through ur playstyle. Keep up the good work, i much appreciate it :)
@@ronnyjellinek9927 hey I appreciate you guys. It’s comments like these that give me the motivation to keep going
Echo this too. Cheers for the content. It’s good fun getting ideas from your gameplay! 🙌
Agreed! I have learned a ton about the strategies and items. I thought Snowflake was pathetic when I unboxed, until I watched your previous campaign.
You look like a friend I had in high school. I had unrequited feelings from him that led to us never talking again sadly!
Do you think a challenge playthrough is something that would still be fun or is gloomhaven "solved" for you already and you would not have fun playing it normally? I.e. deadly, no invis, no houserules, no round restarts (am I a masochist?).
@@MarekPaarek I have played all 95 levels of Gloomhaven at least once but many of them I’ve only played once. Some of the classes I wouldn’t mind playing again, Saw, Sun, Angry Face, 2 Mini (but they scale poorly with deadly), Lightning, and Squid face before level 7. Also Eclipse before lvl 6. Maybe Voidwarden too I haven’t played her much and I haven’t played any of the side levels in JoTL only the main quest. With that said I’d probably rather wait on Gloomhaven until 2.0 cause I’m sure I’ll play that eventually but I never signed up for the kickstarter. I havent looked at any of the spoilers after I saw what they did to my boy Saw like a year ago. I’ll probably end up buying a physical copy to support cepholofair and then just wait to play it until there is a TTS version
I love your Frosthaven content, but I really missed your good old Gloomhaven speedruns, and I was really excited when I saw the category, didn't expect this at all! I hope that you'll try and perfect this route, it looks really fun and fresh :D
Thanks! I definitely want a 1:3X:XX time but I probably need to find some more consistent strats before thats possible. It's just nice to not have to spend 2 hours at a time reseting over exhausting over and over or donating to the church like the Berserker run!
@@ucgxanathos2171 This is so interesting. I'm thinking about a middle ground between this bare-bones route, and the full-grind Berserker route. What if you keep it starting classes only, but you grind maybe just a little bit, to get to prosperity 2. Wouldn't this be worth it?
@@rara2ra2yrra3racjj2 I considered it for this run but I don’t think so. First of all cost-wise if I remember correctly it was about 1:10 per 5 donations so it would take ~5 to get 20 donations and another prosperity from a city event which is 6/30 odds. On the plus side you characters would start with 15 extra gold, scoundrel could start with a perk, and would be lvl 6 by the time slave pens comes. Another interesting possibility would be brute potentially coming into a level or 2 since he can start at 2 with fatal advance for an instant kill and would have access to the battle axe to turn skewer + balanced measure into a 2 target attack 8. Could work really well on drake’s nest. Battle axe is the real gem of an item that would be unlocked but unfortunately it has a terrible interaction with scoundrel’s single out by definition. It would be amazing on slave pens to stun both archers in room 2 for mindtheif, demo could probably get a good use for it in the first rooms of frozen hollow and crypt of the damned, but I don’t know if any of those are actually saving any time or just making things slightly more consistent
That is a pretty good analysis. I've been messing around with a Brute build that focuses on single-target high damage attacks, the main culprit being Balanced Measure, which basically makes it a Berserker cosplay build, works better than people would expect. All of the upsides of the Prosperity 2 route sound incredibly appealing, though in the end if they don't really save time, they're not the play for the speedrun. However, I think that the added consistency is very much worth giving it a shot, especially with Scoundrel & Demo getting a perk from the start, and Scoundrel being lvl6 for Pens guaranteed. That level is the one level where I feel like you can feel the absence of the Berserker the most, what a liability that level is hahah. If nothing else, then these strategies sound like a lot of fun, so for me they wouldn't be a waste of time, but that's up to you. And the consistency would most likely save you some sanity, which is valuable. (P.S. demo loves perks, as well as the Battle Axe)
Missing the FH play through, but this is a fun watch as well!
Yeah its just unfortunate this took like 20+ hours of testing and routing for just a 2 hour video. Now that I actually have a route I wont need to obsess over this nearly as much. It's been nagging at me for about a year that I had some cool ideas in this run and had no idea whether it could compete with the Berserker route
Your allies should have 4 health. Level is 3
Based on my level it would be monster level 3 but the first attempt was at +2 difficulty and the second at +1 so that scales the helper HP up
if you get the white boxes of things not loading (more common in multiplayer as non-host) like you did at the start of the scenario for the ice wraiths, right click on the figure(s) and select "reload" and the box should appear correctly.
one minor rules quirk that affects your interactions: the banner of strength affects Dominate and Fluid Night based on the shadow you attack from, not from you
Still have 20 minutes, but as of now you misunderstood to special rule for the final room. I think it’s “at the end of the next 2 even rounds do a thing”. So round 2 and 4 spawn them. Not every 4 rounds.
@@MarcusAZ2022 whoops
How are you not excited about heated drill bottom? It's a red payoff without pressure down. All the crazier with processing and the powerpotion card.
@@MarekPaarek the bottom seems better than the top but the bottom on the other side says brittle so both are move and do damage essentially. The card seems like its goal is to hit shielded targets and I’d rather just brittle them and let DW attack for 9. You’re not wrong though a power potion heated drill + radiation + beam axe/scalding drill is crazy damage
Yes! I know it hasn’t even been a week, but have been missing the videos!
@@MarcusAZ2022 I’ve been working on routing gloomhaven digital +2 difficulty with starting classes only. I think I’m basically done routing now just need practice. I gave up on this a long time ago because of Barrow Lair being super RNG and Slave pens being stupidly hard but I’ve finally found strategies for both
Also don't underestimate Steel Piston for the bottom of it. It's a good way to get the payoff from overpressure - basically a free attack for 3.
@@MarekPaarek I really want it for both halves it seems really good I just don’t know what to drop. Everything feels so important
@@ucgxanathos2171 the bottom move that gets you from yellow to red. You have Radiation now for that. And you have been complaining about not having enough usage for the red status other than the top of Beam Axe, so here's a second one I guess?
You know, you were so sure about the double teleport in one turn you almost gaslit me into thinking I'm crazy. I paused the video multiple times to maybe see if you had like a reverse expertise potion or some shit that would allow you to use two bottom actions, saw nothing but you kept on talking about an ironclad plan with no way to fail :D But now I finally saw a response to a different comment and I felt so relieved I'm not crazy.
@@MarekPaarek nah you probably are crazy I don’t make mistakes
i believe banner spear skipped a check mark and needs to be shifted back one i really like this concept of this level! very fun, and while it may have been easy I definitely think your composition plays a part in that lol
I really appreciate it being discarded your bottom or top. More scenarios that make you discard one should let you choose
That challenge seems so annoying to remember
@@dallintalbot539 I’m certain I missed it a few times but also banner always had health to spare

@@anthonyc4951 any excuse to get to play more snowflake! I love that class
@@ucgxanathos2171I have the 8 names PQ on my snowflake and am trying everything I can to get them to last more than 8 scenarios. I rejoice whenever I don’t get a name in the outpost phase. Such a fun class I don’t want it to end.
Some day I really want to play Flake + Fist and put the bottom of Zephyr Barrier and Storm Wall on Fist to just tank everything.
@@johnpeterson3386 idk wouldn’t do much against the triple attack 7s from night demons. I like playing snowflake way too much to give up cards like that although I’m sure there are survival missions it would be really good for
I'm a little confused, are you not using 2 bottom actions on the last turn (on deathwalker) when you teleport over loot and then teleport back?
@@vslimes uhhh you know what…. I guess you’re right lolol. I didn’t even realize. For some reason that was the plan in my head and it was ok and I didn’t even think twice about it. Actually may have worked out better for me if I had realized cause I would have teleported over on the turn I spent looting and maybe could have ported back into a better hex. Either way I’m currently devising a plan to try to play the level again with a different team comp left in another comment cause it sounds more fun than cheesing it with DW
It's pretty cool watching you push deathwalker so far. I've never played them but was pretty down on them as a teammate due to how much ally support they seemed to need to shine, but damn do they scale high with coordination and enough mitigation from the team to enable risky play.
@@jeremyfrentz9506 deathwalker can just be so hard to get started since you really want to be eating multiple shadows at a time to be most effective but it will require call to the abyss turn 1, and then needing allies to get monsters ready for you on turn 2 to start a snowball. But nothing feels stronger than a properly set up deathwalker attacking for 8 from the other side of the board
RETRIBUTION! :p
Well played. Was waiting to see how you played this. We just played this scenario with a Trap(lvl 3), Fist (lvl 6) & Snowflake (lvl 4) and got absolutely destroyed. We couldn’t even get near the second deep terror. The deep terrors pulled their spawn card 2 times in a row and the map was filed with them. Death walker made this scenario much easier. We still haven’t figured out a strategy yet to win this scenario. Maybe we need a different team composition.
@@anthonyc4951 DW is absolutely the strongest character for this one. I think clearing the spawning deep terrors in the second phase is needed and somehow rushing the third phase ASAP. Maybe a fist icy highway? Cold bolder could place some ice in the middle and hit all 3 deep terrors without getting retaliated. Maybe traps invisibility card or the spring loaded loss at the end? Definitely seems tricky with those characters
I don't think it ended up mattering, but the challenge got ignored on an attack into deathwalker and they should've burned an extra card as the Null would've done enough damage to kill them. Nice job on the quick scenario though.
@@vslimes yeah I totally forgot about the challenge while I was playing the level, to the point that after I finished I thought I hadn’t drawn a challenge and drew another one
I think you're absolutely right about the initial positioning being just unfair. The Ice speakers often just stand there and block your path. If they were out front, their several non-move cards wouldn't be actively screwing you over. I don't mind the enemy count as much, but having RNG play SO MUCH into how turn one rolls out is just silly. (Especially Ice Wall on the Ice Speakers...wtf?)
@@johnpeterson3386 yeah even with them getting one of their move cards turn one the guy banner didn’t move still didn’t reach
On your drill concerns, I'd recommend dropping processing, I found it tough being able to afford a do nothing card in the 9 card hand and spreading your top actions out between turns lets you react more effectively to drawing the pressure change amd (but idk, maybe i'm just hating on processing). Also the other level 4 is really good for building back up from low pressure onbthe top or setting up flexible battlefield control with the bottom. Could be worth a sneaky respec?
@@jeremyfrentz9506 processing has been my favorite card, I’m a sucker for 3 cards in a turn and it pairs well with bronze plating, but I do see how other things could fit better. I do like the idea of steel piston especially paired with the other lvl 4 as at regular pressure I can power down and get the heal off. The self damage adds up more quickly than I thought it would and the self heal on power core has been more awkward than I anticipated. I did do a sneaky respec after the level I played yesterday morning along with updating my potions and hitting lvl 5 but I’m out of town for the holiday for now. Drill doesn’t feel particularly weak just a bit stale as it’s kinda build up to over pressure for a really good beam axe turn, stall out with electrical discharge and wait to beam axe again
Yeah I had the exact same problem with stale play on the class honestly, once you figure out the pressure puzzle there's not that much more to it. All the play to the class is in the hand with very little play on the board, just go somewhere and hope your numbers are bigger than their numbers. Hopefully you can get something cool going with the later level ups 😁
Interesting....I find Death walker impossible to play until I get Medium (bottom). I also take Dominate at 6.
@@johnpeterson3386 that is interesting. There’s 1 scenario in particular I found medium bottom was amazing for (41. Unfettered shard) but other than that I really never felt a need for it. We probably just play her completely different because to me the lvl 6 card The Night Take’s Shape’s bottom is her best card in the whole deck!
this is an entirely new thing that I had no idea existed, could I get a link to the tabletop simulator bit? sorry if you already said this in an earlier episode, I couldn't find a playlist or anything
@@unktheunk1428 I’m not entirely sure what you want a link to, but if it’s Tabletop simulator itself that’s on steam. If you want the Frosthaven Enhanced mod for it you just log into your steam account and click subscribe here steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3307604810
This is the most overtuned scenario in the game. You had to repeatedly brittle every turn (something pretty much only your comp can do) and still almost lost. Also, you didn't put down the hazardous terrain on his second special 1 and didn't spawn the second Sun demon. That combo may have even caused a loss. My four player group had this scenario with a Boneshaper and a trapper. He pulled special 2 three times in a row on rounds 2, 3, and 4 making it impossible to summon or lay traps. Very fun level...
Next to the locked items is a button you can click on, then enter the item number in the text box that pops-up and it'll fetch the correct item for you.
realized after watching this that my group played this scenario completely wrong but it ended up saving us a ton of brain work
@@vslimes what did y’all do? I actually really enjoy this puzzle if it weren’t for everything getting in the way where you can’t see what you’re doing
@@ucgxanathos2171 we definitly missed the "exactly" wording on the range of the number tokens so instead took it as "every tile within range X/2 of the number is pinging" which made it really easy to just step on 9 and grab what we needed quick. The 12 token basically just covered the entire room.
Still have a few minutes left, but looks like you missed the loot on Drill. 3 wood, 2 metal, 1 coin. Plus the 10 bonus xp on all 3.
thx
Inspiring Helmet is an item thats worth having on at least one character for scenarios like this. High level Blinkblade can also handle this scenario just by getting to the target immediately, inspiring helm to accelerate movement, then running interference (or just killing) the pigs at the top
@@johnpeterson3386 also double time’d cascading reaction bottom would allow inspiring helmet to grant move 4 instead and then move with your top and it gets an extra move for at 99
If you think War of the Spires B is hard, just give it a try with only two characters. It barely scales, so with 2 it's very nearly impossible.
@@johnpeterson3386 my first time attempting to route the Speedrun (before I had seen all the levels) I assumed that fist route was fastest because Avalanche scenario 6 can be beaten in like 3 turns with DW/BB. I was playing +1.5 difficulty and I failed war of the spire B with those 2 characters 6 or 7 times before I gave up and finally beat it with trap + bb doing invisibility cheese with traps hard walling off so that melee monsters would ping pong back and forth. It’s an absurd level. And you’re right having %50 of the enemies being elite doesn’t reduce the number of attacks coming out. Good thing all the objectives you’re protecting only have 1 hp and in 2 player you have fewer cards to lose to protect them!
@@johnpeterson3386 also with my current Speedrun route war of the spire A is a 1 turn scenario so about 45~ minutes faster than spire B
I would love it if you did one of these for Geminate. In a recent video you spoke very highly of the class and I’m sure your insights would be of great value to those (like me) who want to love the class but struggle to get the most out of it.
@@gideonpepyshmm I may have slightly misrepresented my opinions. For me Gem ranks 16/17. Its damage output is going to be a bit subpar, and it’s definitely clunky. It does have good access to immobilize/disarm/stun which is nice and its lvl 6 card corrosive acid is one of my favorites in the game. I really really leaned into that card while I was playing it
@ Yeah, I feel like they missed a trick. Great to have a class that can switch between melee and range; but what’s the point in one that HAS to switch?
Out of interest, which class is 17th?
@@gideonpepys Drifter and it’s not even close. The mechanic of using charges means you can never go crazy and have super amazing turns back to back because you have to take time to pause and get charges back. Also the AMD scales really poorly and later in a character you’re hoping you draw your +0 get back a tick which is disappointing. Really good character at lvl 1 with a bad deck, but just doesn’t scale well at all
@ That’s an interesting POV. You’re right, but it’s not the consensus is it? But as soon as you say it out loud it makes sense.I feel a bit bad for recommending the class to my teammate now. (We’re Snowflake, Trap and Drifter.)
That’s exactly where I am at in the puzzle book. Have to finish Algox and then unlock the Tavern. Still have a long road ahead.
Spoiler: I dislike the puzzle book. And I like puzzles!! Just too much text separated by too many real like weeks play gameplay and the solutions are actually pretty difficult. I didn’t enjoy it and look up the answers and i go.
@@MarcusAZ2022 I think part of the problem is it’s just so disjointed. If it were a super linear game where you always unlock the puzzle book first and had at least some idea which scenarios lead to which puzzles it would be slightly better. In my first playthrough my wife and I played top of the spire 3 months before we unlocked the puzzle book. Never in a million years would I have rememvered the colors had to do with the text you read upon defeating the boss. I like how nonlinear Frosthaven is and would take that over an easier puzzle book any day so all in all it just doesn’t really fit for me either
I'm currently running a Snowflake and one other member runs melee Deathwalker. I have all the items to give him blesses, enhanced the top of snowball to bless and am currently saving up to enhance the level 6 heal to give 2 blesses. The Oak staff you just ripped apart in this video and circlet of elements to create light for myself for it. Combined with stamina pots to get back the enhanced cards and then just command him around with some of the Flake's command and strengthen cards and yeah, it's working great.
Deathwalker is my favorite character but I can't get him to start quickly, he always takes too long to put the tokens on the field and when we change rooms they are all left behind
@@juanjesustorressalcedo780 yeah I know that feeling. It sucks to have to set call of the abyss and then mark something so taking multiple turns before you can start snowballing
How about using Frenzy Potion to get a Attack + mark into Round 1? Use Call to the Abyss Initiative and a big move bottom like Lingering Rot. A spent Iron Spear could hit two targets, in magical Christmas land you could get one kill & a mark out. I did a melee focussed Deathwalker and enhanced the moves up to Move 4 to trigger Horned Helmet.
There's a few mid to late game items that speed them up but early you're relying on teammates for damage mitigation support and helping you get the first kill. I'm not a fan of the class because of that but it sure does scale well once the party gets it over the hump As far as changing rooms goes, the summon is kinda sneaky good for this. It runs forward and gets the marking started without you having to spend precious actions dragging everything over. Also depends on allies to keep it alive for a couple of turns though.
Where do you unlock the Baton? I tracked down that it comes from scenario 44, but we took the other fork in the scenario tree. Is there another way to unlock it?
@@MarcusAZ2022 nope that’s the only one. I’m just importing the item from my other campaign cause I really wanna use it
@@ucgxanathos2171interesting, I also thought that all of the items would be mirrored in split mission branches. I wonder how many items are locked out this way.
