As an enthusiast I wanted to document the work that goes into a fairly budget build for Time Attack. The car is a 99 civic hatchback with a k swap. My budget is limited but my desire to perform and meet my goals is high. Follow along as I go through all aspects of the build as well as ongoing modifications to keep getting faster.
Carbon Fibre block off plates
In this episode we make carbon fibre block off plates for dash in the Civic. Easily done with some common tools and a bit of work, this was completed in just a couple hours and should clean up the look of the dash quite a bit when installed.
I got the carbon sheets from Amazon, I’m not affiliated with them. Just wanted to share where I got them.

This is a compilation of footage from the past couple months painting the the interior. It was a massive pain and I would not do it again given the mess, end result and time investment. Tonight we get the holes in the dash filled and the pedal box back together, I almost destroy a gimbal and iPhone with a miscalculation. I also fixed the formatting so it’s not a small postage stamp 4:3 video. Let me know if you like the longer format, this was over an hour of content before I edited it down.

After a long hiatus I try and get things rolling again with videos. I’m going to give this style of video a try, I just don’t have the time with work and a young family to dedicate to hours of filming and editing. Tonight I show the process of removing the factory Honda dash padding and preparing it to be flocked.

First event at the new to me home track. The surface proved to be a challenge all weekend with some placing having amazing grip and others with none as seen in this clip. I also over trail-braked the corner causing the back end to slide out.

The final time attack event of the year for me was August and only the 2nd time out with the new setup. Here are my two best laps ever that well exceeded my goal for the year of mid 14’s. Thanks everyone for all the support this last year, I know it was a slow year for track action but made the best of it none the less. Happy New Year.

First event with the new budget K20/24 engine, EHPS and rear aero I built in my garage. We took .7 sec off my PB and are only .29sec away from the track overall NA FWD record. Laps where a bit of a mess, my lack of seat time in the last 24 months is showing.

We hit the dyno to tune the K20/24. Thank to Bill at Applewood Performance Center for fitting me in and supporting this project. I was on about 4 hours of sleep after a 10.5 hour drive home from work that day to make this appointment.

Thank you for this info it will help with my time attack cb7 since it it is the same bolt spacing with the itr spindle. What is the recommended rotor diameter for this?. Is their a range that works.
Where can I get this sheet of carbon fiber to buy.
I got it off Amazon, lots of size and thickness options.

"budget" 700$ calipers second hand
At the time this video was made they were all over EBay for $150 each. I did this complete setup for $500. Compared to anything else this size that’s budget.

anyone know if this will work with a 22 civic si?
Question about using over cleaner on aluminum. I've read that its a no-no. Any thoughts or research you did before using it on aluminum engine parts? Thanks for all the great EK track build content! I'm diving into my own build on a 2000 Civic hatch.
No issues with it so far 3 years later. If you left it on for a long period maybe, but I remove it with in 20min or so. I have used it for years and never had an issue.
How is the pad coverage w the Rogue 12.6” rotors? Trying to determine if the 12.44” rotors from the 09-12 mini JCW would work for 4 lug folks. Do the rogue rotors have the same offset from the hub mounting face?
With out trying it I could not tell you for sure. I believe you would have a lot of pad overhang if you ran it on a 12.44 rotor.
@@FFAttack measurement wise it should be around 2mm overhang depending on the pad. Not optimized but should be functional in theory? Based on technical drawings I can find, the caliper should work with a pad shim on each side to take up some thickness. Might order a rotor from Rogue and Mini to compare 1:1
Yes your right, sorry I was thinking the smaller Mini rotor, that would not be bad. On my setup currently I have 1-2mm of pad overhang. Since I inoculate did this I have heard the Sentra SE-R rotors are fit with no pad overhang. I plan to try it when I need to change rotors. Nothing I have seen for 4x100 though.
@@FFAttack which year of Sentra? If I’m ordering to take some measurements, I can try to have a peek
@Luckyblooms I have not dug into it enough yet to know for sure. I was told you also need to run the RSX type S hub with the larger hub centric ring. I believe the 2007 Serra SER Spec-V is the one that is needed. CENTRIC 12142098 Rotor from my quick search.

It’s 3mm but 2mm would have been plenty.

What's the specs of the wheels?
17x10 et18 front 17x8 et42 rear with a 5mm spacer.
@@FFAttack thank you! Did you have to tub the front to address any clearance issues?
@Sammo115 no I just pulled the fender and spaced the bottoms out. I don’t run the car overly low. This is as large as I would go without tubs.

what size tires you running on that? an wheels an offsets?
Front is 255/40r17 on 17x10 et18 Konig Hypergrams rear is 225/45r17 on 17x8 Konig Hypergrams et 42 with a 10mm spacer.
Good idea marking the bolts. I’ll do that to mine as well.

I have a d series track built ek. Considering this upgrade. Will the stock axles mate with the crv spindle ?
I think you'd need CRV knuckle, CRV bearing. RSX base model Hub wich is 32mm axle. The Type S RSX hub is 36mm
8th and 9th gen fit on also ?
what power steering fluid are you running? in the process of installing the mercedes pump into my eg, dont know if i should use MB or Honda spec fluid
I used a MB comparable fluid, no issues so far.
Nice video, about to do the same in my Integra. What's the high pressure fitting for the pump?

In your honest opinion how well do these perform once they get hot? I also have a k swap ek civic with the Porsche calipers on my four lug set up but I want to go 5 lug to run 17inch wheels. Thinking about using the crv knuckle for the front. Trying to determine what front brake set up to go with, seen the TL set up, genesis set up, or maybe go with fast brakes on a custom set up but that’s easy 2k dollars.
The track I use to drive on was known for being a brake killer, lots of slow corners with little straights so no time to really cool the brakes in a lap. These handled it just fine. Last year I removed the dust seals on the pistons as they like to catch fire. I just drop a drip of brake fluid on each piston to keep the seals fresh. I have run these for a 45min session in 32c weather and not had brake fade. I do have corvette brake ducts (have a DIY on them). So I have a steady flow of cool air. Pads are really important too, the G-Loc R16’s take all I can toss at them. Now that I run on less brake abusing track I’m not worried about this setup handling heat at all.
how is your intake temps like?
Not bad, I have not logged them in a long time but if I remember right they were 10-20f above ambient. I plan to box it in and add a cold feed from the front.
@@FFAttack i have mine in a similar position and when the car is idling for a long time or stuck in traffic it goes as high as 65 degrees celcius. Engine bay gets very hot though. What do you think is the cause of it.

Calipers would but you won't find a rotor of this size in 4 lug
What about a 4 lug rotor? What sizes fit only 12.6”?
If ain't wrong you could use ep3 ctr or rsx-s hubs wich have 64mm center 🤔🤔
That’s correct, when you have the larger Wheel bearing CRV/ITR spindles you can direct swap the hubs. I’m in the process of doing that now so I can run the slightly larger (07-12) Sentra SE-R specV rotors.
Nice, what's your spring and swaybar set up? I have a ex front and asr 24mm rear with 10/8kg springs. Not sure which I'll run f/r
I have a GSR front sway bar and a TypeR rear. Springs are 1000in/lb front and 850in/lb rear.

I believe that’s right, it’s been years since I measured them. With my aggressive tire stager I would say it’s ok, I could probably go with a bit less front bar.
@@FFAttack Awesome thanks, I have just one last question. I tried to find the info in one of your videos but came up empty handed. What wheel width / offset are you running? I just picked up motegi track lights in 8.5 / +35 and am curious if I'll have fitment issues

How come you didn’t say what the final torque was for the head studs ???
It’s provided in the instructions you receive with the ARP hardware.
I’m pretty sure the pump needs a signal from speed sensor? So the pump is on at 100% pressure all the time regardless of speed? Wouldn’t that overheat the pump? I could be wrong 🤷🏻
This pump is a 3 wire (Ground, 12v and switched on/off). There is a version of this pump that has 4 wires the 4th being for speed. In my case it’s just on and off, I can hear the pump increase assist when load is applied.
Will it work with itr 32 hubs ?
If they are 5 lug I would think so. I did not try it though.
