    I can't believe your video has so few views. Along with your intuitive 'conversation/questions,' John is one of the most philosophical photographers I'd heard. I've spent far too many years being a stills photographer for film & TV in the UK. I'm considering moving into weddings but the whole industry is so off putting. John's attitude is something I could aspire to and still shoot weddings. His wisdom within the wedding world is priceless, but probably gets totally missed by photographers that get caught up in the circus of " have camera, make money.' Spending decades shooting stills, where the light is controlled by the DOP, the location dictated to by the director, everything is out of my hands and I'm recording what others have directed. The thought of shooting a formulaic wedding just fills me with dread. John has opened up a whole new world; shooting film again, having freedom, taking risks, being the creator of pictures and not the box ticker picture man. Thank you for facilitating his wonderful expression. Good luck with your channel.

      Thanks so much, Neil! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and to share your thoughts. John is indeed an inspiring voice in the industry! I hope this conversation spurs you to find or reconnect your voice. There's a lot of noise out there, but the more we speak up for ourselves, the better photography and photographers will become. Please watch some of the other guests and if you want to share, I'd love to reach more people.

    For Red Flag #3: How do you approach (or respond) if there is a parent or planner - whether they want to be the sole or partial contact? What do you tell them?

    • @BarbarichPhoto
      @BarbarichPhoto Год назад

      This is such a good question! Thanks for asking to clarify. I explain to them: my relationship is with the client. They're who I'm providing the service to, and therefore my contract and contact is with them, we can build a comfortable relationship which gives them the absolutely best photos possible. Once they hear that, they usually understand the value. But if the planner is requesting to be the sole contact, that's a red flag because for how I work, I don't want to show up as a stranger on the wedding day. So I always try (and have always been successful) at building a relationship directly with the client, even if the planner manages the contract delivery etc. Same thing for parents... If the parent or planner is INSISTENT that I only work with them, then I likely wouldn't take the wedding. That's just how I roll--it's not the experience I want to have, and it's not the experience I want them to have. That's what's important: knowing what experience you want to provide. If you're cool with the parent or planner handling everything, then that wouldn't be a red flag for you.
