E-Scouting an Early September Mule Deer Hunt 2024
My experience last year near Sun Peaks is that it's still freezing just a week or two before the end of the season XD
@@Summers8Mike yea it can definitely be unpredictable at the end of June at higher elevations
Penso che avresti dovuta metterla per terra. Il caldo va in alto, quindi ci sara; molta differenza di temperatura alle varie altezze.
In a truck bed camper it can’t go on the floor but yes it should be lower. The only issue is then you give up more storage space. The fan is a must to circulate the hot air throughout the space.
@@truetineoutdoors ah ok, thanks for explaining
Do you hunt on the mainland or just on the island??
I mean my answer is both, the only region I haven’t hunted in BC is region 5. But I mainly hunt 8
@truetineoutdoors Oh, that's awesome. Man, I hunt religiously region 3 If you're ever around that area, give me a shout. I'm planning to do a bow Only bear hunt out near port hardy in May
Awesome video again Spencer. Too bad you didn't find your deer but that's how she goes sometimes. I know you made a valiant effort. I am just curious, any idea how far the deer had gone from where you shot it to where you saw last blood?
Thanks for watching much appreciated, it was pretty much 80 yards on the dot
That’s really tough but you gave it a good ethical search. Will you be switching out broadheads for next year?
Yea it is what it is, I am considering it.
It seems to me that lack of a blood trail happens more often with bow hunting than with rifle hunting. But I guess every situation is different. It looks like you put in a good effort to try and find it - too bad you didn’t have help.
It is true. Lots of lost animals out there based on what I see on RUclips. I'm getting back into bow hunting myself. I feel keeping it to 25 yards broadside, and using a wide 3 blade razor sharp broadhead is the key to getting a good blood trail.
Yea I would say you are correct, in a sense. Less margin for error. At the end of the day the results weren’t there. But the effort was put in. An extra ticker and set of eyes definitely helps in situations like this one.
Another great and humbling video from you sir. I agree, tough not finding animals that you've shot. And the very reason i stopped bow hunting. I get the idea and feeling around bow hunting, but the percentage of lost/recovered animals is not great. Not a debate, just my personal opinion. Keep it up, your videos are awesome ! 🤟
Thanks for watching and following along! I hear you on that, I have no desire to stop bow hunting, honestly next on the list is trad hunting. But I do take to the fact the difference between shooting an animal with an arrow opposed to a bullet a little differently now.
Very well done edit Spencer!
Thanks Ash! Glad you enjoyed it!
@ For sure. Keep up the great work!
Great video as always buddy…the videography and editing have come leaps and bounds this season. Really enjoying the new content 👌 Tough break on the buck. That’s the unfortunate reality of hunting sometimes. Good on you for showing that side of it. Love that little island though…it’s a special place for sure. 🥃
Thanks Chris I really appreciate it, trying to up the production each season! Yea man that’s Hunting, you gotta show it all, Turning into one of my favourite places to hunt.
You need a dog in our jungle for sitiations like that. Better luck next time.
Absolutely, all I was thinking on recovery day was I wish I had my dog
Your going to do better if you put camo gloves and face mask on.
I mean I guess I could potentially do better with those items. Anything to up the chances. Remember the game is to spot them before they spot you!
@@truetineoutdoors Exactly! As bow hunters we need all the help we can get!! 🏹
Very true! Thanks for the tip
I feel your pain brother. I live in PR & have been hunting 'Fraggle Rock' for over 25 years. The only deer I've lost (so far) was the nicest buck I've ever had a shot at over there about 15 years ago. A nice mature 4 point. It was an easy 75 yard shot across a small swamp with my .270. He didn't know I was there, had time to kneel down & get a rest on small tree. He was right at the tree line on the other side wide open. Found good blood right where he was hit and for about 30 yards going into some hellaciously thick bush. I shot him around 9:30 am & me & 2 buddies spent the rest of the day climbing through that mess to no avail. Love the channel & hope I bump into you over there sometime!
Man that’s a tough take. Something you’ll bring with you forever. Thanks for watching, much appreciated!
Blacktail hunting is special. Finding a big old Blacktail buck in the woods is like finding a secret lost treasure that no one knows but you. Then to actually harvest that buck is even more difficult and more of a treasure. Miss it!
Blacktail hunting is definitely a special thing, the jungle is a great place to be. You don’t hunt BTs anymore?
@truetineoutdoors No still archery hunt just got my family out of Washington State now I hunt whitetail.
Ah yea interesting, just stand hunting?
It was a beautiful video accompanied by lovely music. Thank you for sharing those moments with us.
Thanks for watching! Much appreciated! You like the lofi!?
Rough time losing a buck. That second buck that was bedded in the first bucks bed was a beauty. Nice brows.
Yea that buck was bedded in the same spot both days, I guess I didn’t spook him bad enough
Oh man…you know I know that pain. To feel like you’ve done everything right up until it all goes wrong. But you’re right, that’s the reality of hunting sometimes and there are many things out of our control no matter how much time and effort we put into it. Very nice vid, the countdown to spring bear begins!
Thanks for tagging along Scott! Yea it’s the part of hunting that we all need to accept. The fact that there are soo many variables and most of the time things don’t go the way we drew it out in our heads. See you in the spring!
Very good job.
Thanks
Where abouts in bc are you from?
LM, live in the okanagan
good job gents!!! Thanks for NO cheezie music!!!
Thanks for watching!
Great video Spencer! Tree stand hunting in the cold is no joke. In AB I had my stand setup 20 yards from trails just due to trees and it sometimes got me busted. Ideally 30 yards is nice to be able to draw back without being detected.
Yea I figure 30 is the sweet spot, it’s a fun little change up getting in the tree, I feel like I’m definitely more of a big mountain guy tho, craving adventure these days lol
No thimble?
The insulated 6” is what passes through the ceiling, essentially acts as a thimble
never seen anybody bait in elk or moose before ,job well done.. Merry Christmas -from the Kootenays
First time baiting for myself, kind of cool to see what comes in, unfortunately wasn’t in the right spot for deer
I’ve been bow hunting out of trees in your area for 20 years. How long was your bait out - if no deer in a week you are way off … should be deer hitting it that night or next day for sure. I prefer to hang in confers for cover. If aspen, conifer close behind you to break up outline. I hang at 16-18’ and rarely higher. Sometimes lower if lots of cover. Using a mock scrape will have them coming to your spot regularly without bait. Lots to learn … like your effort
These are some quality tips, love getting this info. I was piecing a lot of this together in those 2 weekends of hunting. I assumed that because of the elk that was the reason I wasn’t getting any deer in that week. Thanks for your insight much appreciated
I love the idea of the mock scrape, what exactly do you do for mock scrapes? Are you just making a scrape yourself by your set up? Do you re-scrape at all?
Good info, Brian. I'm a friend of DB's so your name came up a lot over the years when talking whitetail this time of year. Spencer, now is a good time of year to find areas deer are using. Baiting is super unproductive if you're trying to force deer into areas they don't want to be even if you like the spot. Try snooping around a few km lower than you were when you showed up on my cameras. Most guys drive passed some of the best areas on their way to hunt where everyone else is.
@@HighCountryBCahhh … DB. I’ll miss comparing notes. Good advice - bait, salt or mock scrapes all aren’t super magnets and you have to set up near where the deer are or want to be
@HighCountryBC thanks for the tip man, I was only in your area for that one morning. But yea lower than where I was is probably a good look in the area I was in.
Good on you for trying something new. I have been a tree stand hunter for many years. Never tried the bait thing though. Always just picked a well travelled trail and usually ended up setting up too close . 25 to 30 yards seemed to be the sweet spot. Deer do look up once in a while. I liked to wear a lighter colored camo like Predator or "ASAT". Darker colors seem to look like a Bear in the tree. Also liked to have something to break up my outline behind me and even sometimes in front of me , helps to hide you when you draw your bow.
Thanks for the tips Bruce. Much appreciated, I will take this information into account and apply it to my hunting methods.
Respect, both for your bow-hunting efforts, and for building the stand as a temporary structure at the time you're there (as it's supposed to be done). That's a style of stand hunting I can respect. By comparison, out East where I currently live (i.e. western Quebec north of Ottawa), the old curmudgeons claim and assert "ownership" and post long-term "ownership" signs on the provincial Crown land they've built permanent stands on, on every single secondary trail and decommissioned foresty road, and they aggressively push other hunters out, even if those other hunters were there first on a given morning. My son and I, on his very first deer hunt, had 2 old French guys threaten to slash our truck tires if we stayed in the area. And we were there earlier in the day than they were. All of that totally illegal, incidentally. Several criminal offences committed, in fact. Wish we'd gotten them on video. The Province simply doesn't have the resources to fund proper conservation officer patrols. I've never seen a CO patrolling while out hunting here. They instead seem to mainly patrol the main highways for road kill/injured animals. The Eastern woodland forest here is so very dense/thick (i.e. impassable), that the only realistic ways to hunt whitetail deer are either by the old-fashioned method of driven hunting (which would require partners, a plan, and very clear safety parameters), or alternatively, stand hunting. That would sit a lot better with me if just a temporary tree stand as you are doing here, but when it's essentially permanent structures and illegally "claimed" land, it's a disgusting, illegal, and unethical practise. Can't wait to move home to BC southern interior where we belong.
That sounds like an unfortunate situation and I am sorry you had to deal with that. I’m not sure if you have hunted from a saddle or not but I think it’s definitely a great option to look into if you are looking for something to be able to move around a lot with, it’s a pretty cool system and I’m happy I went this direction instead of a self climbing stand. Thanks for watching!
We have no snow yet, here in Montana where I live. It's been a strange December. Beautiful video. Good luck in 2025.
Very interesting, what elevation are you at? Thanks for watching you as well!
Mountains have snow. None in the valley. 3500ft is the elevation..
Yea our snow line is below 3500ft, atleast in the region I’m in
I didn't know squatches could climb trees
Albino squatches have hidden talents
Love watching your videos! Iused to hunt in Ireland and the uk but it’s been close to 15 years now since I was last out.Watching your hunts has motivated me to start the process of getting my pal and core courses done and getting back at it! Keep up the great content man.
Very cool! I’ve always been interested in doing a hunt across the pond, maybe one day! That’s great to hear man, I’m glad they give you the motivation! Get it done! Life goes quick! There’s no such thing as too many days chasing critters in the woods
Does this hurt the animal?
..
Been hunting moose in bc for 55 yeara ..with my twin brother.... OFTEN ... ONE CALL .and a bull moose starts grunting... of course timing is important many times, I've had two or three moose coming towards me at same time
True but you do have to be within relatively close proximity to hear that grunt, I do know that you can call them in from a ways away. And it can take them a bit to get to that proximity. Thats why I will call more than once after a certain period of time. Obviously there are a lot of variables that come into play. That’s very cool I’m hoping I get to experience that one day. Thanks for the insight.
@truetineoutdoors true... but I have called animals in hmmm from 1-2 miles away... last four seasons I dumped moose ALL which I called in...
@truetineoutdoors looks like a good area where you were hunting.. Water, feed, and timber ... A few Areas where I hunt, year after year...the moose...They're STILL THERE... Yah, we've harvested a lot of animals my dad, 65 years, my twin brother and I ...50 + years...always seem to be lucky I guess... cheers and all the best...
Right on man, thanks for the insight. It’s all just time in the field at the end of the day ain’t it! Good luck next season man
Good job on the subtitles. Nothing more annoying in a hunting video than to have guys whispering and not being able to make out what they're saying.
Thank you for the insight, couldn’t agree more, definitely a tough thing to recognize when you first start creating tho
Spotting scope setup?
Diamondback 16-48x65
@ Thanks, appreciate it! Congrats on the 4 point this year
Thanks man, thanks for tagging along
Didn't recognize you on any of the videos from the cameras. There's a couple it didn't look like you saw. Thanks for not messing with the site! Good luck with the stick and string.
Dude all in good fun! How many other cams you get me on? Thanks pal, good luck as well!
@@truetineoutdoors 2 others. I keep them tucked away and hung high on trails into the site. You get a little suspicious when you've had cameras locked to trees that have been cut off. I can appreciate a good joke though and that was funny now that I know it's you. Cheers.
Haahhahaha 😂😂😂
lol cheers guy
HighBC squared
Hard to last that time of year and pull back a bow. My favourite hunt was the nov 25-dec10? Mule deer hunt in reg 8, any buck with bow. Still can’t get over it lol
That’s awesome man, that late season grind is real, feels like you’re the only one out there as well. That is until you end up shirtless on somebody else’s camera…
That was great ! I have cameras all over the place, and it would be funny to see something like that. I only ever get the odd person walking past, and they rarely know the camera is there.
Hahaha start the trend, next can you go by, “the shirtless Sasquatch walk”
What calibre?
300 win
One heck of a shot 👍
lol thanks, had no choice I would have lost the arrow
awesome vidoe brotha. could you make a video regarding late season whitetail e-scouting? thanks!
Thanks man! I may do that in the off season! Sounds like a fun topic to cover!
What region are you from. from Vancouver island hunting ain’t the best here can’t find spots only really go off the island once a year for a group hunt with family
From Region 8 but hunt a lot of regions. Find those pockets!
@that’s hard over here not enough forest to be able to explore
There’s tons of forest over there! Deep and steep for those BTs!
Wow😂 you are so good at installing this little wood stove!! 😊I want you to install one for me in my truckcamper😊😊❤❤ I love it "

Would you share what brand of trail cameras you use?
I use a few, but lately I’ve been buying cheapo ones off of amazon
Izeeker
A shovel is 100% a mandatory tool in BC November Whitetail Hunting 😅 I literally dug myself out for 6 days straight this past week in Kootenays.
Lool gotta have it!
Whitetails are always so challenging, especially in the timber in your area. I hunt a very similar spot to the north, and I really do feel so much of it is right place at the right time- then what makes it count is your setup. The deer density is solid! I find it's often that entering my spot to ground call is damn hard to not disrupt a ton of deer. However, ever so often you get an estrus doe roll through and things get real western. Persistence is such a big factor at the end of the day. Good to see you're getting time out there, man.
Thanks for the insight, I feel like you need to be doing the prep work in a spot before September. I’m a little late out the gate here and that’s fine, just learning as I go, hoping to throw a stand up for the first time. Test the patience
I’m curious, all the work you put into putting the wood stove in your camper, do u find it to heavy or just a pain in the ass to load up for the weekend
As a hunter I want to be as versatile as possible, and with the camper on I would not be able to get into about 90% of the spots I go.
Hell yeah dude, I done this same trip a handful of times and it’s exactly as you described throughout (actually last year was the first year in a while I didn’t go). Really cool to watch your hunt, takes me back. Got me motivated to plan a little jaunt over once it’s bow season again. I’ll keep an eye out for your truck.
@@ngtlaw that’s awesome man. Yea keep an eye out for me this year. I should back there to close out the season.
u in K town
Nah man
I recommend you listen to your video with regards to your rattling. It’s too rhythmic. You need to vary the cadence smack then tickle then smack and smack again then small tickles then separate with a clash then stomp or thump them in ground. Pause then tickle slightly then smack then clash then tickle etc. You seem to get into a trance and don’t vary the cadence enough. Just trying to help. Love watching your vids as soon as you post. Keep up the great posts. Plus late in season bucks are on does or looking for them. Try a doe bleat. I recommend rut roar by primos. The Estrous bleat setting worked great for me this year.
Thanks for the expertise! Yea the rattling has definitely come to a close I’m just going out on a whim there hoping for a curious dude. I think I’m switching the tactics to tree stand sits now. Gonna be hard, I’m impatient lol. Thanks for watching!
I was going to say the same about the rattling being too rhythmic. It sounds unnatural, and in the woods - unnatural sounds might have the opposite effect. Although I know you have had some success with your rattling.
Yea it could use a little touch up but I think it ain’t bad. You hunt WTs here in BC?
The truck starts again! That's good news!
Yesir!
@truetineoutdoors What was the issue?
Fuel pump
Don’t forget to take snow chains.
Yup getting a little risky out there, don’t try this at home folks
