Wherever Away
Великобритания
Добавлен 26 дек 2021
We are Gary, Catherine and William and we like to travel out and about in various ways, whether it be in a Caravan, daily National Trust visits, Camping or holidays in the Sun.
Carsington Club Site Experience
We visited Carsington Water Club Site and could not recover our Drone.
After being shredded by brambles, we ended up visiting a National Trust Site called Kedleston Hall.
We also visited a small Town called Matlock Bath.
A few Eriba dinners are included and an 8 mile walk around Carsington Water.

Great video fried great info on that place jan 🤠👌👌👌👍
It’s lovely to see you camping back in the Eriba, have you decided to keep Beatrice now? Great video
Hi Teresa, yes we decided to keep the Eriba back in April. Thanks for the compliments.
Love your videos Gary but have a question where do you and your sweetie pie put all the food you scoff in the Eriba, yous two seem to be a pair of hungry horaces, yous could end up a pair of Billy Bunters, anyway so sorry about the drone hope Will didn't beat you up for not bringing it home
Hi Robert, our tinned food goes into the top cupboard over the sink, other things like bread, veg and cereals go in the top cupboard on the same side towards the back of the Eriba and the rest in the fridge. We do go out and buy extras, mainly wine and beer. Will was fine about the Drone and we might get another one but not this year.
You've misunderstood me Gary, I meant how can you so much at one sitting, there's always enough for 4 but there's only 2 of you in the Eriba 😮
Oh, we usually don't eat much during the first part of the day if we eat so much in one sitting and on that day we were quite active.
Cheers Gary it was just a bit of tongue in cheek comment as we don't move much these days as we're in our seventies so don't eat much but yous guys are nice to watch so keep up the good videos, bye now👍
You put us to shame with your cooking Gary.Who needs a fully fitted kitchen to produce a good meal! We are about 20 minutes from Kedleston but havent been there for years. Shame I about the drone.Hopefully you will eventually get it back. Enjoyed the video as always.
Thanks Hayden.
Despite an email, text message, a warning om the CCMH website and a sign at the gate saying don't arrive before 1pm you arrived 1.25hrs early! Shame on you and the people trying to leave meeting you at the exit must have been cursing you. Then you try to staying beyond the noon (last check out time) God forbid you didn't and meet late arrivals trying to get in the site! When are people going to learn NO ARRIVALS BEFORE 1pm!
We don't usually have any issues with the CLs when arriving early. It's rare for us to use a formal Club site due to the strict inflexible rules. Everyone to their own I suppose.
Thank you for another Video, love watching you guys 😊
Thanks Gail.
I'm glad we went for a 1991 model! It seems better built.
Hi Fiona, yes I think the older models were better built. The only advantage of the newer models is the galvanised chassis, whereby the older models have a corrosion issue.
Hi I'm so sorry to hear about your dad's passing. Lovely video. Like the little CL site looks and sounds nice and quite ☺️
Thanks Sarah.
We love your vidéos! They played a big part in ouf buying an Eriba Forever Young last year
Hi Louise, I recall someone else buying an Eriba from the back of our videos. We should be on commission haha.
Love the Hitler Comment We nearly always stay on CL's but recently used a CAMC site in Hawes. Not only was it espensive but we had to swap the car and caravan round because we had not parked propely between the pegs,, fire safety hazard ! stupid thing was that we were closer to the adjacent caravvan than before but rules are rules !
Hi Frank, yes the rules can be strict on the formal Club sites. If you are going away for a week or so the standards are very high with good showering facilities and it can be worth it.
We went to this site a couple of years ago, really loved it and the village has some great takeaways.
It's a nice spot and only a short walk to the Town.
When your caravan is stuck in mud there is a way to get it out using human power only. Step 1 Check the left wheel front and back to prevent it moving. Make sure the front of the right wheel isn’t against a step. If it is build a ramp so it can climb out. Release the hand brake Pul sideways on the tow hitch (max leverage) so the caravan swivels in an anti- clock wise direct until it is 90 degrees from the starting point. Apply the handbrake Step2 Repeat step 1 blocking the right wheel and swivelling clockwise by 180 degrees Step 3 Repeat step 2 blocking the left wheel and swivelling anti- clockwise by 180 degrees Repeat 2 & 3 If you have any flat boards it helps if to place them under the wheel to be moved. Sounds more complex than it is.
Hi Arthur, thanks for the advice.
That was a quirky meet up Gary with some interesting ways to camp. We use the organic green fluid in the toilet and in the flush. The only time we get "bits" in the fluid is when we leave it in for weeks. It still works OK but looks a bit naff.Easily flushed out. I've had problems again putting comments on you channel - they disappear! Something to do with You Tube? Enjoyed the video.Always something different and interesting.
Hi Hayden, thanks again. I think RUclips has had some issues because sometimes I see comments and they can't find them again to reply to them.
White bread and carbs are a big trigger for reflux. Try slippery elm powder made into a drink
Hi Jane, with me it's alcohol which causes too much acid and also spicy foods.
@@whereveraway alcohol with me too, I had to give up drinking all but tiny amounts in my early thirties , I count it as my lucky blessing !
When I was caravaning, I found out it was the pink stuff in the flush that caused the black stuff. To remedy the problem ,I used to drain and rinse the flush tank after every outing. Hope that helps.
Hi Mike, I suspected that could be the cause. I may decide to just stop using it.
@@whereverawayNo need to stop using it, just drain it out when you have finished your break. I found that using Elsan double and I don’t get any but I do drain it out. To get rid of what’s there, drain the tank, 2 capfuls of Milton, fill with water leave for 5 hours and flush it out 👍
Last summer I ran out of the pink liquid & used the green instead, it's been like yours since
Lovely video.Looks a great festival, unfortunately too far for us to travel to.All the best
Thanks Carol. Yes it is a bit far for just 2 days.
I went to that holiday camp and my dad had a heart attack and they did not call a ambulance at all
Hi, hope he's okay. I would have called the Ambulance myself though. Never trust anyone to do anything for you in such circumstances.
@whereveraway my dad past away 8 years ago now
It’s an icon,enjoy 👍😀😀
Thank you.
Greetings from Germany. The whole toilet thing is a bit overrated, in my opinion. If you have a chemical or any other form of toilet, just get used to it. There are workers dealing with other people's shit, so why could we not deal with our own? We love our Eriba and no lack of toilet will stop us :) Cheers, Chris
Hi there, yes you are right, however the British prefer not to use the caravan toilet for solids. We all know the Germans like sausages :)
Check your storage times as we are in the same storage and they are 7.30 am to 9 pm 1st April to 30th Sept 8.30 am to dusk 1st October to 31st March Hope this helps Adele
Hi Adele, thanks for that. I wasn't aware that it was so early during the lighter nights. That makes it much better for getting away on long trips.
Loving your Nepalese top Gary; suits you. Beautiful scenery. Yummy looking chilli dish from Catherine and as always I am impressed with Williams cooking skills. On a hot day as it was here yesterday in Wiltshire it was nice to see and hear that heavy rain. Looking forward to your next trip 😃
Hi Rosy, thanks a lot for the nice words. Hoping it clears up for you where you are (I'm sure it will). See you on our next.
Slutchy..havent heard that word for years..mores the pity
Oh we are full of old fashioned words.
Lovely video . Hawkshead looked really nice and the site . Thank you for sharing 🌸
Thanks Victoria.
Nice vid what car do you pull with i see its a toyota land cruiser but what size engine does it have do you find it a good towing vehicle ?
Hi TC, it's the middle Icon with a 3 litre engine. Towing capacity is 3,600 kg. Effortless towing, especially up hill, much less chance of snaking. The downside is you only get 18mpg when towing a 1,300kg Troll. The newer LC's now have smaller engines with better mpg. Trying to find one at 10 years old with low mileage is difficult. I've had a lot of people asking me if I want to sell it.
@@whereveraway wow she's thirsty no troubles with it then ?
Hi TC, we have had maintenance like brakes etc and even a caliber replacement. The main thing to watch for is ensuring you give them a good run as the diesel particulate filter can block sending the vehicle into limp mode.
Good idea using lockers on 4WD may seem like overkill but better than ripping up grass. Most AWDs and some of 4WDs in auto will spin drive wheels before engaging 4WD system by then damage has been done to turf. Also avoid spraying mud over vehicle and van. Couple tips for caravaning in wet. Put waterproof tarp under outdoor carpet. Waterproof clogs or ankle boots are great for getting around campgrounds, clogs are a little easier to slide on and off. We use fish bin with lid for storing footwear outside, little bulky to transport but has 101uses eg platform for barbecue, extra low outdoor table, transporting muddy gear in caravan.
Hi Monty, thanks for the advice and we hope you enjoyed the video.
Hi, I’ve just spoken to a caravan repair specialist who says the best system is a kojack jacking system that fits on the axel, I know what you mean about calling RAC, we are a year into our Eriba and it’s all a learning curve, enjoy the lakes!
Thanks Andrew.
just a quick question, have you ever had a need to change a wheel on your van we have a 320 and I am looking at getting a jack? Any thoughts or suggestions?
Hi Andrew, we haven’t had to. The main dealer said just call the RAC. We had to buy a brace because the Eriba didn’t come with one. I’ve heard people say bottle jack under the axle.
You never cease to amaze me, totally addictive viewing! Are the Eribas days numbered?
Hi Andrew, the Eriba days are certainly not numbered, as we use it hail, rain or snow. In fact tomorrow we are off up to the lakes with the Eriba.
Good luck Will.Wherever you finish up I'm sure you will enjoy it and make the best of it.
Hi Heyden I will pass on your message. He might end up doing an apprenticeship yet though.
Did your home on wheels part of the budget?😊
Hi, sorry I didn't understand the question.
Hi really enjoyed your video sorry for your sad news it's sad but I can imagine your pain but its will also be a big relief. I was just wondering how do you find the cl sites I heard about them but not sure how to find them. And do you have to be ccc members.
Hi Steven, thanks for your kind words. So there are two Clubs CCC and C&MH. Each of those clubs have affiliated sites. CL or CC. You go onto their website as members and do a search for either Club sites or Affiliated sites. For those sites you tend to contact the owners directly rather than pay via the website. We only use the C&MH or Caravan Club as its branded.
@whereveraway that's brilliant thank you I have a trailer tent so only think I ca use the ccc because they seam to want to box your camper into their category . But thank you very much for your help kind regards Steve
That place is my nightmare!
Assuming you mean the site. Not great if you want peace and quiet.
Hi Gary, we keep talking about going to the Cambridge club site but still yet to get there. Cambridge looks beautiful. Is the city walkable from the site or is it a drive? Also good luck to William for his upcoming exams and hope he gets the marks needed to get in where he wants to go 👍
Hi Mark, so the Club site is around 3 miles from Cambridge. We drove to a car park which is 1 mile from there so wasn't too bad. Cambridge was beautiful and is worth a visit. The Club site is very strict and the people who run it are like an army of hitlers.
Good luck Will. Whens the next festival🎪
He said thanks. Not sure if we are going to slumber on the Humber yet.
@@whereveraway not heard of that one. dubbed out is good one have you heard of it ?
Yes but it seems to be VW camper vans.
@@whereveraway no its all types u can even camp in a tent. We go in a caravan its great
Hi'r another great video .could could you answer me a question please whats the little black on/off switch for near the plug socket on the sink unit we haven't used the van yet just sussing it out first many thanks Phil. 4:53
Hi Phil, 4:53 doesn't show inside the Eriba on this video. The 2 x plug sockets in front of the sink and between the sink and hob theres no on off switch there on ours.
No probs Garry I wondered if it was the switch for the water pump but what I'll do when we go away and something doesn't work I'll assume that switch does something 😂 cheers keep up the videos they are very interesting 👍
Best of luck Will lad
Thanks Jim I will pass on your comment.
semangat paman 🔥
Thank you.
Good luck with exams Will and hoping you get your first uni choice. All the best to you all
Thanks Carol.
Cambridge looks lovely, i think as a Student there, you are not allowed to work/have a job while at Uni you have to be committed 100% of the time. Might be worth checking out. While checking out the Unis it might be worth checking out the Bars see who has the best Student deals as thats where they will spend a lot of their time 🤣
Hi Michael, yes you are right they did say no part time jobs whilst there. There is a bar in the accommodation block.
@@whereveraway A bar in the accommodation block! Jeez sign me up!!
Nice to see you back good luck to will.
Thanks James.
That looks a lovely spot. Ideal for us as a family with a Autistic child .
Hi Philip, yes it was very nice and only 3 miles from Cambridge.
Hi love watching your videos. Im buying an eriba ...second hand id like to ask you does the little fiamma grey waste container fit right under the waste water pipe or do you have to connect a pipe onto it .ive got the chance a new one going very cheap i dont like those big 40lt jobs they take up to much room when travelling just wondered what your take on it is ....any thanks .Phil.
Hi Philip, the grey water tank just sits under the waste water tank and we only use it when on a hard standing. On Grass, then we just let it drop onto the grass, as we don't use much water.
sad news pal. take care
Thanks Mick will do.
As a new subscriber I just wanted to say how much we enjoy your gentle videos . Please accept our condolences on the loss of your Dad . Sad in whatever circumstances but as you say he is no longer suffering . Sending comfort and strength to you all xx
Hi Victoria, thank you for the nice wishes and we are so glad you enjoy our videos.
Hi. I'm new here. So sorry about your father. Take care of yourself. Thank you for being honest about how much you earn on RUclips. I've always wondered.
Hi Carole, thanks for the nice wishes. We won't be buying a Yacht at Marbella from RUclips earnings, but it has been an education for us.
Sorry to hear of your loss Gary.I have just lost my mum who was also 90.She had been in care for five years with Vascular Dementia and at the end her brain didn't send the signal for her to breath and that is how she went. An evil disease for everyone involved and the cost of care was exorbitant.
Hi Roger, sorry for the loss of your Mum too. With dad, they said it was pneumonia, but he had a heart attack back in year 2000 which he survived, recently all caught up, which left his heart unable to feed his brain with oxygen, which in turn shut his brain down and therefore his body. Around a year ago, we noticed that his mouth would stay open a lot and his speech became illegible and it has been a gradual decline for a year, accelerated in the last few months. He used to say I don't feel well and I wish I was dead.
Do you have a video showing how to put up the G3 residence room 🤔
Hi Yes, its on the Loch Lamond Scotland video if you look back.
Sorry to hear your sad news, but at least he is now at peace.
Thanks Raymond.
New to your channel, loving the vlogs x Just an observation I would get an awning, gazebo, tarp or something for your cooking area,As you know weather tuns in seconds and putting everything back in tailgate is very cramped and a faff each time it rains, esp if its in for the day or in middle of cooking.People must have improvised on this set up, maybe ideas on line or YT x
Hi, yes we do have a tarp but not used it yet. We can cook in the tent with the shelter open. For camping like this we will book at the last minute and only do when the weather is good. For other times we will be using the Eriba as shown on the other videos. Thanks for subscribing and hope you enjoy the videos to come.
Yes have watched some with the Eriba lovely ticks all the boxes. If you come back to Cornwall Tregarton Park , Gorran is a lovely park, there are YT videos on it.I live in Cornwall so know the good the bad n the ugly, but sshhhh don't tell anyone else lol x
Having been a subscriber for sometime now I feel as I know you all so well and so it was very sad to hear about your Dad and how his end came about. I totally agree with your thoughts on end of life choices too and hope that now that Esther Rantzen is calling for a change that change will come. I am already looking for to your next trip away but in the mean time I am thinking of you and your family at this sad time.
Thank you so much Rosy. I do feel that change will come under strict circumstances and we may well see it in our lifetimes. Our next trip will be a tent trip with William for a Uni opening day. We are still awaiting DCert so that Dad can come back to the village and we can arrange his funeral, so not able to book anything else as yet.
