On the safety switch under the steering wheel trim, wouldn't it be simpler to wrap the zip tie around the pin itself when the pin is retracted? the zip tie would be trapped behind the metal guide the pin normally slides through and the switch body.
@@nailbender1596 lol I wish I thought of that 9 years ago when I made that video🙃. I would say no because the zip tie may slip from road vibrations. I would do it my way because remember you need to be able to remove your key.
If this works, you are a life saver !!!!

Thanks, video was great 👍

Question i dont have a moon roof but my driver side floor is getting wet would this still be the same issue?
Hi:) do you have an HHR?
@@shojay9270 yes
@@popcornplaya83ify Ok:) to be honest I don't think this is your problem. The problem might be your weather stripping around your door might be bad and in need of replacement. Very common, the weather stripping on my car was bad. You can get a replacement at a local salvage yard on a scrapped hhr. It just pulls right off and reinstall very easy. The stripping goes all the way around the door frame. Give that try maybe that will fix your problem:) Good luck:)
@@shojay9270 ok thanks appreciate it
How do you use your spare tire with all the wires going through the hole into the spare tire area.
Luckily I have not had a flat yet so the spare has been used but if I did, the wires simply lift up and out of the way when I lift that try up.
You should use ferils and plastic shrink wrap to cover your power and ground wires for best connection and no future issues.
Thanks for the tip👍😊.
What if you have an aftermarket remote start. Is it the same thing that it won't if I did what you did
The best explanation ever. To the point that’s all.
Thanks man, my 2007 Shitty Cobalt is working its magic the same damn way. Got in the dang thing this morning and all the locks are just going absolutely bonkers up and down, down down up and down up up and down. Then I went to start the car, just fine, but then I tried to shift and bam, it’s freaking locked. But I can however pull my key in and out of the ignition. Some one said to just pull that specific fuse out and manually use the keys to lock your doors, ect. I wonder if this fuse method will work with the safety pin feature in the gear shifter as well? Or do I have to do the ol’zip tie method such as your video. Thanks mate, appreciate ya labor
Can u hit me up I need a video of how u did that I have a 08 that I want to put a 12 in it
On my youtube channe I have a video of how to wire the input signals off the factory harness. It's pretty straight forward. The car molding you simply unbolt and pull it out of the way. I did this video like 5 years ago so I never made a video on how to do this job but my other video will be a big help for you:)
Do you know where that Amplifier is?
Sorry for sounding ignorant but do you know if they all have a factory amp ? I got the car with an aftermarket double din and it is like 25 watts x4 and it sounds really bad . There was no factory subwoofer either and it sounds awful they have wires all hacked up under the fuse panel that’s on the passenger side and I’m trying to fix it . I once had a 2004 grand Cherokee limited with the premium infinity amps and when I replaced the head unit I was able to get the power from them even though I had hooked up the speakers to the head unit and it sounded amazing I feel like this car I’m getting the 25 from the head unit only And it sounds awful I’ve already had to replace the back door speakers twice in 6 years and now the back passenger speaker isn’t making any sound so idk if it’s toast again or the hack install job is the issue . I was thinking of heading to the junk yard and picking up a factory amp and factory sub to install but I’m not sure if that is even necessary or possible . Thanks
Not sounding ignorant at all:) no unfortunately not every HHR came with the Pioneer premium audio system upgrade. You would only see that in the LT or SS version and in some cases, a special order upon request by the person buying an HHR brand new. The car you have has the basic 4 speaker set up with no amp. Best advise is to remove the factory head unit and install an aftermarket head unit that has rca signal inputs. You will need that in order to run an external amp. Pretty simple. I am assuming there is a circle cut out on the left side of the hatchback. That is where the factory subwoofer would be. Best of luck on pulling the pioneer system out of a donor car ugh. I have not tried that, but maybe possible. I am sure there are many sitting in junk yards with premium audio. Here is some helpful information: A good way to tell if an HHR has premium audio, is by looking at the front bumper. If you see fog lamps, it is an LT and most LT's have the premium audio upgrade. Good luck:)
Its OK cause I need a room for grocery to filled in plus other stuff. where can I find and how to install 1 left rear panel speaker?
My friend's 2009 shifter just locked up watching your video made it so much easier I just went in and just cleaned it up a little bit from the side blowing it all out with air and then hit the actuator to move the shifter wove it back a couple times and that works fine
Where is the placement of the amp I have a 2009 Chevy HHR and I'm getting no audio where is the amp located
Open the tailgate. Remove the molding in the hatchback on the rear drivers side. Once you pull the molding out of the way you will see the amp. It is right below the driver's side rear window.
what if we are gonna use 2 subwoofers? do we tap into pins 1-4 for the second one?
My 2006 LT had same problem. My sunroof stopped working suddenly a couple months ago. Turned out to be low volts output (to the sunroof)from the under hood main fuse box. Entire fuse box replaced. My HHR and a 2007 & 2008 in the junkyard all had this same poor design from Chevy GM; all 4 corner drain connection on the sunroof had shrunk back from the other tube connections. They just didn't come loose like this video but had shrunk back about an inch!!
Great video thanks.
My locksmith just wire tied the white button under the wheel to let me remove the key as well. Much cheaper and easier than removing the shifter.
So you didn't have to remove the shifter to fix the shifter? Just the pin under the wheel and the shifter now works?
Where do you run the remote wire to?
On my channel you will see I made another video showing the wiring diagrams. Check it out, you will see which wire is the remote wire.
@@shojay9270 found it thanks
Cut a small square out of a plastic lid. Put the square on the key release plunger then attach the ziptie
Thanks very helpful 👍

Hay bud awesome vid....i.was wondering i get all you say but my amp doesn't have a harness all the connection points are there but I need to add the wire or land the correct wires in their designated terminal i have (L speaker +&-) & (R speaker +&-) I have the remote wire ., so I get how all that needs to be wired . DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING WITH (LEFT INPUT) OR (RIGHT INPUT) =RCA JACKS?? & I LEAVE THE (B+) & GND ALONE ?? RIGHT ? ALSO BOTTOM OF AMP HAS 3PICS OJE SAYS [ HIGH PASS , ONE SAYS LOW PASS. & THE OTHER SAYS FULL RANGE .( NOT TO SURE WHAT THIS IMPLIES..BUT MY AMP IS A ROCKFORD FOSGATE punch 125.2 or 125x2. If you can let n e know your thoughts..would be great. Thanks bud... new sub... for sure ... loved the vid info
Hi there, just read your message not sure if you are the same person that messaged me earlier tonigt but anyway I read your message and this is what I am thinking: As far as the inputs go, the high level inputs are the RCA inputs and the other are the low level inputs. I am using the low level inputs in my car. If you are running RCA wires from an aftermarket head unit, go with the high level. If you have a car like mine and you are using the factory headunit, go with the low level inputs on your amp. So to answer your question, no don't bother with rhe RCA jacks. You will need to run a positive hot wire from your battery to your amp. And you will have to run a separate ground to your amp. Find a good clean metal to metal spot for a good ground. I strongly recommend OFC(Oxygen Free Copper) wiring. It is the best wire for your system. It's on Amazon. I tried looking for your amp online and I was unable to find it. Are you sure your amp has high and low level signal inputs? If you only see RCA inputs, you can get an adapter to convert a high input frequency to a low frequency. They are on Amazon. Just look for RCA to low level signal adapter. I just looked on Amazon, and there are many. Thank you for the kind words. It is kind of hard to picture this all in my head being I am not there in person. I hope this will help you. Good luck. Cheers!
Hey I'm gonna reinstall factory radio cause I got problems with ac control unit burning all the time and want to know how to add an amp,to factory radio
Can u tell me we're to get the adapter
Hey were did u get that adapter I been looking for but no results
Hi there, there is not adapter. This whole project is hard-wired. You just have to find the correct wires in your car and splice them. After that, you connect those wires to your Amp. I am talking about the signal inputs.
I need to do this in my 08 hhr 2.2 pia pia sometimes
Thank you, thank you. I was stuck in a Left turning lane few minutes ago. I was able to move it to a safe place.
Thanks for the knowledge!!
Great video
They did recall bolt
Practically every other car manufacturer puts in a way to bypass the shift locks on the way in case the car has to be towed but not GM this is one of the many reasons why I never have and never will own a GM product
Where did you ground the amp at?
Pop your hatchback, move that carpet out of the way, lift that big piece of plastic covering your spare tire, now look at the battery on the right corner, look right above the battery and look for a big fuse, that is the BCM fuse, this is where you can ground your apm. Ground your amp right to that little metal bracket. I did it this way and it is working great for like 4 years now. Hope this helps:)
@@shojay9270 Thank you👌👌
@@tramccoy2490 You bet buddy.
So from the factory, does the radio ( I guess they call it the head unit) have ( no amplifier except a pre amp) if you have a chevy HHR, with a factory pioneer seperate amplifier? Is that why they call in low level signal? So If I got one from a salvage/car junkyard --you pick a part . What's the only way to find out what radio I'm getting is to look for the power amp in the driver side quarter panel? I suppose different radios have different part numbers or do they all just come with a normal built in amp, regardless if you have the rear Mounted amp
OK I just read your message so this is the best answer I can give you based on what you asked: The factory HHR head units do not have amplifiers built in. There is in fact a separate amplifier hidden where I am mentioning in this video. Yes low level inputs are key. If you go to a salvage yard and look for an amplifier in an HHR, you have to looks for the HHR'S that came with the factory installed upgraded Pioneer sound system. Not every HHR came with that option. The base model cars came with just a radio. The only way to verify if an HHR comes with the Pioneer audio system, is to look in the hatchback to the left driver side and look for the subwoofer mounted on the side. Can't miss it. Pull that panel out of the way, and you will see two units. Take both. One is the Amp and the other is the crossover. I would take the head unit too because your head unit may not have the hook ups in the back. I cannot be 100% if this will work in your car, you may have to hard wire the whole project. Good luck!
Thank you this is what's wrong with my car. I need it fixed maybe I can get someone to help
Hello ShoJay92! Great vid and beauty HHR!! I've got a 2009 with the Pioneer factory system but need to replace the subwoofer because the original is blown. I've got it removed from the vehicle, but I was expecting two wires to be coming from the sub; instead there are 4!? It doesn't seem to be wired in parallel OR series - it's like both coils (since DVC sub) are just individual wires going to a 4-pin harness (from the factory amp). I guess I'm just wondering - what the heck is the total ohm rating of this subwoofer? Is it 2-ohm PER coil? Everything online is telling me it's a 2-ohm subwoofer, but because it's DVC, it should be either wired in parallel (for total load of 1-ohm from amp) or in series (total load of 4-ohm from amp), assuming that EACH of the two coils is 2-ohm. Does this make sense? Haha, thanks for any help you can provide. Did you just remove the 4-pin harness from the stock amp and run those 4-wires to your new amp (high-level inputs, per your video)? How did you know what ohm-rating to get for your new amp? Thanks again!
Hey just read your message and thank you for the compliment about my car:) To answer your questions in order: You were saying 4 wires instead of two...My factory sub is still in the car so I never removed it. So I honestly do not know how many wires are on the factory sub harness. I am assuming you have a different sub which you are installing in place of the factory? You were saying how many ohms for the sub, do you mean the factory HHR sub or are you referring to my SKAR audio sub? If you are asking about my SKAR sub, that is an 8 ohm DVC that I have wired at a 2 ohm load. The Rockford Fosgate Amp you can take a 2 ohm load. The factory sub is in fact 2 ohms. Yes 2 ohms per coil on the SKAR sub. Be sure to look at my RUclips channel and scroll through my videos and look for the video I did showing you exactly how to use the factory HHR harnesses to get an audio signal for an aftermarket Amp. It is very simple I did all the work for you finding the correct wires just copy what I did:) 4 ohm Amp for 2 ohm coil seems odd not sure if that will work:/ you might fry you Amp. I would keep it simple. Get a 500 Watt Class D or Mono block 1 channel Amp. That Rockford Fosgate you see in this video still runs great. That SKAR audio sub is rated at 600 watts at 2 ohms and sound amazing after 3 seasons. Make sure you use OFC(Oxygen Free Copper) wiring. That is the best wire hands down. Get back to me if you have any more questions. I hope this all helped you:) cheers buddy!
The water leak I found was not from the Sunroof but from the weather strip around the back door. Over time the heat shrinks the rubber causing water to run down the top of the weather strip to the floor under the carpet. My solution was a tube of Window Caulk. After a thick bead of Caulk the issue has gone away. The floor stays dry.
Can you just cut off the ear of lock of shifter to allow the shifter button to move? That way everything else should work by not push OJ ng in the silinoid.
You can try that but if you do, there is a chance you won't be able to get your key out of the ignition.
I have a pioneer in my 08 hhr ss. Power on no sound. Amp fuse?
Are you saying when you turn on your radio you have no sound at all?
Check fuse#6 in the fuse box under your hood. It should be a big one at the top mixed in with the other fuses. Under the fuse box door is a diagram showing you which fuse is what.
@@shojay9270 yeah, no sound . Everything works, channels, DVD. No sound. I'm thinking factory amp?fuse
In line fuse too?
@@chambo5554 I do not think our cars have in-line fuses for the amp. Have you tried swapping out the #6 fuse with a different fuse? That would my next step if my car was doing this. Those fuses do not show any sign they could be bad. They appear to look fine but when you supply power to them they will trip. I am talking about fuses #1-8. They have a clear top cover.
Great video
Nice sanding galaxy tab a
I have heard it in person. Its beautiful.
We're you standing in the exact same spot as me?
Hey, Jay , how’s the ride now after 2 years? Still no bounce or bottoming out? That lean in of the top of the tire that’s camber not toe. You can address that with steering rack spacers and a set of camber bolts for the strut to knuckle
Lol it rides horrible😂. My 06 LT winter beater rides better. I wish there was a way to make it ride better. Also, something simple as changing the oil is a pain because getting a jack under there is a challenge. So yeah I kind of miss the stock suspension but it makes up for it in looks. Oh and those eBay headlights I installed 4 years ago are starting to peel on the inside. 159,000 miles on it and about 22,000 on the new crate motor.
does that mean you can shift in gear with no key in the ignition
Yes. Remember this is a temporary fix. More like a band aid on the problem to get you out of a jam. The problem is your shifter. You need to replace it. Do that, and your car will be all fixed. Ebay has plenty of them.
