US Sugar 148 leads the Caladium Flyer!
Просмотров 3703 месяца назад
On the last weekend of July, the town of Lake Placid hosts the Caladium Festival. A crowd drawing event that features vendors selling various souvenirs, a car show, and train excursions. Recently restored light pacific, FEC 148 is the main motive power for these runs, with one of US Sugar's diesels bringing up the rear for the return to Lake Placid. While short, these excursions provide a good ...

While Golden is most known for being the HQ of Coors Light, it's also home to the Colorado Railroad Museum. Though small, the railroad museum is home to a host of operating equipment including two steam locomotives, RGS 20 and D&RGW 491. In this video, we get to see both of these locomotives under steam for the museum's annual Colorado Crossings event. Back To The Wood by Audionautix is license...

Durango and Silverton NG Railroad: Photo Charter May 2024
Просмотров 15 тыс.4 месяца назад
On May 18th, Dak Dillon Photography hosted a photo charter featuring Durango & Silverton's K-36 #480 leading a mock MOW train. The train left Durango in the early hours of the morning stopping at several classic D&S charter locations such as Granite Point, the High Line, and Rockwood. However, there were also many locations that haven't been featured on a charter in several years. For my first ...

The Voice of Flager's Railroad: FEC 148's New 6 Chime
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.7 месяцев назад
During the month of March, US Sugar loaned a Nathan 6 chime whistle from the Gold Coast Railroad Museum to be restored and put on FEC 148. The whistle sounded a little off at the beginning of the day, but after some minor adjustments the 6-chime sounded nothing short of perfect the rest of the day. Railfanning Valdosta, Georgia!
Просмотров 1158 месяцев назад
For my first railfanning venture of the year, I ventured over to the Valdosta area with a friend of mine. Our original goal was to go to Thomasville to catch a YN2 GP40-2 on a local, but that fell through so we went over to Valdosta where there was more activity. Good video like!👍The sounds of the horn sound really nice. The train in general sounds awesome! 👍 I also record trains on my channel if you are interested.
Great catches awesome chase and nice video
I love that whistle
I Was On The Train On The Friday Run Of The Caladium Festival I Enjoyed Very Much
Just saw it leave Council Bluffs headed for Boone!
Sounds like 2472 and 3751
Ex nyc engine
Not to be rude but I don’t think that’s FEC 105 because it is to short and 105 has intermodal or auto racks. It looks more like FEC 915,920, or 916. But still good video
At Least I see Former Steam Program Equipment as in W.T 52 is back in use, locomotives that use W.T 52, 4501, 630, 722, 750, 610, 2839, 290 and it was used as MoW Before use
Nice to see the debut of another 2 passenger cars US Sugar is leasing and former A&WP 290’s auxiliary water tender which US Sugar now owns.
Indeed it is!
Saw on a FB that that first coach is former FEC, which is fun considering the locomotive up front

Very cool man!
Just for the love of all thats holy.. DON'T put an SP desert 5 chime on it.. most God awful soundin thing ya could ever put on a steamer..
Keep it up
This was a Nathan 6 chime off of the #153 at the Gold Coast Museum in Miami. It is not an FEC whistle, but they (USSC) have a second whistle (5 chime) from us that will likely be used in April during the FEC Charter. Whistle bowl was a little too small with the Nathan bell and it was underblowing for most of the morning and into the afternoon. They were preparing to run a swap with the 611 Hancock 3 chime
Either way, it is good to hear new whistles on 148 every once and a while. Though I'm just waiting for the CB&Q 5 chime to make a reappearance
@@railfanningamerica868 Don't let the 'perfect sounding whistle' towards the end fool you! That is not 153's whistle; rather a Southern Pacific 6-Chime.
1702's bell just sounds like 480 from the D&SNGRR!
This is the Amtrak autocar train and I got to ride and sleep and eat while riding on it
I always enjoy your videos👍🙂
wait so they allowed the queen's 3 chime on 148? why can't the claytors just give up and say "put the name on the left side of the front of the engine with a custom plate like 2860"
Awesome catches! Love the ACEs and the hornshows.
Thanks!
Nice. Havent seen them doublehead. Like the CVSR and many others, usual one loco on each end.
THATS AN RS5T!!! NICE!!!
there is another shortline that you can find
🧙🧙🧙🧙
Nice layout! Almost looks real!
That's because it is real
How is restoration of 722 coming. I have not seen any progress updates and am curious to know
As far as I'm aware, it's boiler is in Strasburg being worked on
Those sounds make me smile❤❤
i have a family member works at the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad
These old whistles are my favorite part. Such an amazing haunting sound
Yall got lucky at US Sugar to have the opportunity of running the original 611 whistle on 148.... This is definitely a major thumbs up since I rode 611 back in 92 during its Independence Limited Runs and I know that's the exact same whistle.... Music to my ears 👂
Awesome
Great shooting day and night enjoyed and subbed
Thanks!
This is a disgrace to all of us Floridians... putting a long bell 3-chime whistle from the Spirit of Roanoke on a locomotive that belonged to the one and only Flagler System?
It's not entirely inaccurate though. From what I've heard, the FEC was a big user of long bell 3-chimes on many of their steam locomotives.
@@railfanningamerica868 Did they now? Was one ever used on a pacific style like 148?
maybe... just maybe... it can at least guest on 611 next year if it does the Birmingham branch again.
Great catches and nice video
Glad you enjoyed
Was great seeing you again during the chase! Great video!
Thank you, and nice seeing you again, too!
Nice captures! I feel like for this trip they could have done without the 4015 - no hills and no real need for dynamic braking. I guess it still saves on shoes.
That and it still needed 4015 for PTC
@@railfanningamerica868interesting. thought they had given it its own system, saw that video UP posted about it. maybe it was just for signaling. thanks for the info 🫡
Good Catch
Great catches! I agree that this year's heritage units are very attractive and are tasteful remembrances of railroads that are gone but not forgotten. I managed to catch all but 1850, but being in Tampa, 3 of them came in very late on the intermodal i045, so it was a good chance to practice night shooting.
Thank you! I too still need 1850, as well as 1976. Here's to hoping one of those will make down to Florida here soon.
How far up does this excursion run?
It runs from Essex up to Hadlyme, about six miles or so
Awesome video! I’ve been wanting to get out there but haven’t had the chance. I’ll have to use your video as some inspiration for some of my shots when I do get out there
Glad you enjoyed! Word of advice, chasing on this railroad is rather difficult as there's a lot of red lights, and a lot of the crossings are far away from the main road you'll be chasing on. What I would do is pick a shot close to the start of the run, and then another shot near the end. Same thing applies for when it goes back to Essex. Hope this helps.
Great job editing to cut out mid sections of trains. Would be great if you could film a NS train from Valdosta to Lake City FL
Good stuff Ian.
Thank you!
Nice video
