What is an UnUn? Ham Radio Antennas on Coffee and Ham Radios
Well, I came here, posed a question, got asked if it was a trick question, so deleted it, and now I'll never know...
I am so confused. What PC hardware do you guys use for the radios? Only thing i found was a 1200 SDR ham kit on ebay, but i doubt thats the honey
Is dire wolf a linux app. For aprs?
With a nino TNC you do not need Direwolf to make aprs work. YAAC works on Linux, window and Mac. Pinpoint dose not.
Run that by me again chief, “decrypting is illegal” uhh where did you get your law degree sir, I think you may have misspoke
I’m sorry, RT Systems has just too many flaws to pay that kind of money for it. I tried using it with my D Star radios and it just became a nightmare if you wanted to add new frequencies and stations. I found the Icom software worked so much better and it was FREE! BTW, I can’t recall “playing with my radios as if I was playing with dolls”, just never going to happen!😂🤣😂
It’s good to see both of you gentlemen first thing in the morning from Hawaii, I use that word loosely, lol! 😂 It looks like 70cm is dying here in Hawaii because the greedy Democraps took over Hawaii and started kicking out all the repeaters off of state lands where most of our repeater sites were located. We use to have a thick list of state lands in which we could set up and install our repeaters rent or lease free under these horrible Democraps! 🤬 This is especially true since our Inbound Nuclear Missile Attack by North Korea in which I was the emergency net controller for this event on January 13,2018 and I remember that day as if it happen just yesterday, which added to my already existing PTSD’s from serving tours in the U.S. Marines. I had to muster all the courage to do that net as calmly and as professionally as possible because I somehow just knew that the whole world could be listening and my assumptions were proven correct. I was taking traffic from all over the state and there were a lot of hysterical Ham operators checking in with traffic such as a man having a heart attack on Sandy’s Beach to people driving 130mph on the H-1 Freeway to people opening manhole covers to hide and protect their families from a real nuclear blast. Yes, for 38 minutes, every resident of Hawaii was in fear of dying a horrible death from inbound nuclear missiles. From a half dozen 3 letter agencies in Washington DC to the President of the United States to several local media outlets, they all were listening to see if I was going to be forced off the air by nuclear blasts, just not something I’d ever want to go through again. At that time, Bob NH6XO, who worked for the State of Hawaii for over 25 years, had just retired. He designed and built the State’s microwave system to connect all the islands together utilizing the highest peaks of each island and with each project completion, he also installed 70cm repeaters and it was the only system we had that was statewide until it stolen from him by the staff of current Governor Josh Green and were taken off the air by the state just prior to the Lahaina Maui Fires. To this very day, he has not been allowed to retrieve any of his 70cm repeaters in order to relocate them onto private lands and get the statewide connection back up and running again. That’s why these two big disastrous fire events, Lahaina and Los Angeles are so morbidly identical as far as intentionally turning the water off on the firefighters battling these two firestorms. Both events while these horrible Democraps were in charge and the amount of needless deaths that were all preventable. 😢 That is why I got my airline tickets, reservations and etc and flying into Los Angeles with all my radio equipment. I mentioned this trip to Chuck but it’s a very long drive from the Bay Area to LA/Orange Counties for him, I can understand that. This takes planning and a lot of coordination under these complicated circumstances. To both of you gentlemen, I really enjoy your conversations between each other about places that I’ve never been to and to learn about this work of art that I never knew existed. Thank you both and Mahalo! 🤙🏻❤️🤙🏻
Great show as usual! .... That 3D printed cable clip / organizer ....anyway we can get a link for the STL file ??? 😊 ... 73
real men solder wearing shorts LOL
My ideal tuner apparently used to be made but is no longer available. It would handle up to 200 watts SSB, 75 digital, fully automatic, remote mount, and cover the bands continuously, not just ham bands. It would also be capable of very fast switching. That tuner would facilitate ALE for ARS and MARS. The Chameleon (MAT) tuner comes close, but is not automatic. The LDG comes close, but not close enough. Please let me know if you guys hear of or, know of a match (pun intended). de WN7D
Sounds like you are looking for a unicorn 🦄 we will keep our eyes out. Thanks for watching.

Howdy Dennis.
Propagation is how they get ya
You damn right.
We have cellars up north .. and a dept that was jokingly known as the silver lake cellar savers .. theyve gotten better in the last 15yrs
Thanks for watching!
I work with strippers...
Nice
ARCHER didn't "resell" to or through Radio Shack, ARCHER was a brand from Radio Shack like their brand Realistic. They were not a seperate company. They are a brand of Radio shack wire or parts specifically for TV and some home audio use etc.
I'm glad we got that cleared up.
Watched later . We got 4 in snow in Boston NY . Had to blow snow and clear snow from solar panels . The sun came out . I am the TOOL ! Nice show ! I have over 10 soldering irons . LOL 73
Stay warm Robert.
@@CoffeeandHamRadios I have a tool to stay warm .AL 572 Tube amp. And putting 500 PEP watts at 10 meters today. Using a T2LT 8X coax ant. I got some warmth on coax.! some heat off tubes. amp rated 1300 PEP maX . was far from that . Tools to stay warm ! . Got may CA contacts. LA on fire ! Getting ready for snow storm 1.5 FT snow ! LOL . Cheers !
I’m in agreement with Ape on Panda Express not very great
Right!
Back home in Ohio we always had basements. They are dark, humid and cool. I get having a small area under a house for the water heater or a root cellar. Who wants to have a living space there? I'm not a cave hermit. 😂 Don't miss having one.
It's nice down there... lol...
omnifixo and I use an ancient aluminum 9"x13" pan to solder in.
Ape, Please give us a shack tour once you get moved.
I'll see what I can do.
Excellent presentation. wish this video would have been out when I was studying for the technician test a couple years ago. KF0NLP
Glad you liked it Alan 👍
@ape you need to get some cargo pants with the zbitx
Right
A lot of ham gear has different power ratings depending on duty cycle. Some companies aren't upfront about it. Some companies just give the 100% duty cycle rating without qualification. Some companies just give the SSB and CW ratings.
Good point 👍
Mine is a version 9 from 1988 and own it for about 35 year? Love it.
Once you figure out how to use it voacap is really cool
That was Richard who used to own SotaBeams hence the video
The translator is a professor of translation
The second best book in the world.
Just realised what you meant by second best book, thought you were referencing a different antenna book as first.
I’ll say that the powerful station is doing the work as a sarcastic remark.
Life Is Too Short For QRP I understand the conversation implicitly. Whenever I'm doing a QSO session, I always listen for mobile and QRP. I will take the mobile station first every. single. time. as a priority. Most QRP callers are probably sitting there at their primary station running 5w's and a wire when they could be running 100w on the same wire. On the one hand, it is "cool" that 5w can reach 100's, if not 1000's of miles, BUT...the question remains..."Why?" Again, hams should be using an appropriate amount of power to effectively complete the communication. POTA and SOTA callers even run 10w to 100w of power routinely. QRP is handicapped communication, and relatively senseless.
Gd 88 fw is horrible
I don’t quite agree either. I like doing only one watt only on my G90 with a homebrew antenna and my antenna is doing all the work, not the station over 5,000 miles away. I have competed with stations putting out 500 watts and I still got signal reports between 5/7-5/9+ 20-40 over. Again, it’s my antenna doing all the work and the location that I am using. 🤔🤔🤔
Chinese Radios are good as your first radio. My first HF radio was an Elad FDM Duo. If the Xiegu G-90 had been out then, I could have bought 3 of them for the same price and the G-90 has more power and more features. Finally, Chinese manufacturers are building radios that other companies are not. How many Japanese or American companies are building GMRS radios?
QRO 2kW 🔥😁 I want one
me too
Aloha Chuck, I just bought that telescopic mast from Sean of Ham Radio Dude and I hope it’s really strong and can handle that Random wire antenna that you gave me. I want to be able to throw it into my carry-on bag on the plane and not worry about it. I’m getting ready to fly out to LAX, the worst airport behind O’Hare and I am hoping to take my QT80 with me but I might just end up taking my new FTM-200DR only with a mag mount antenna for the roof of the rental SUV and pray that it’s not an aluminum Ford. 🙏
To Flex radio need to have blutooth as I am hard of hearing and hearing aids have bluetooth built in and shift audio to built in freq equalization to my hearing profile.
myths that handheld with a rubber ducky can talk 1000's of miles.
right
Days of a balfung in hip pocket and thinks he can chew the rag all over the world, My brother Ham for 66 years now and myself for 46 years. The one area that needs demo of ham radio at Home Owners Association showing and telling what ham radio can do in times of storms etc. Advanced since 1979 .
That looks like the elephant gage at Clarke when Clarke was ipen
Howdy!!
Hi
Question, what mast would you recommend for this antenna?
I think we are going to say the 10m DX Commander
@@CoffeeandHamRadios thanks, thats what you told me on the TOADS .

Awesome advice
👍
Aloha Chuck, you are overdue for a trip to Honolulu again. This next time, I will loan ya my 991A or my IC-7200 or one of my G90’s. I even have some antennas for ya to try out too. Guess Who..? 😂😜
He is itching to get back
I am getting old, hearing is going away. On that basis I am planning on getting back to CW because I can hear that Well, have not used CW since the Ham Test in Tampa in 1979. I am an advanced class and glad that is included in your system W6CEF 73.
Good luck with it Joseph 👍
I would have the Sam home brewed fan dipole. But my new unlimited budget antenna would be the same rotating tower/beam setup as Tom W8JI has just to my south in Barnesville, GA.
That would be sweet
I would go with the little old Rhombic antenna myself and be satisfied
Haha
With me it was always the opposite, for some reason she thought that standing on a chair on a kitchen table was unsafe...
Haha
I’d own a place in western US with no fan generators. The array would consist of all HF bands covered in 16-64 directions from a center point. I don’t need 360 points, but why not. (160-6m)
Lol
