Vinyl Community : Digging in New-York (+Jazz Club in Brooklyn, +Jazz Bar in Koreantown)
Просмотров 443Год назад
For the first time in New-York, I picked up 8 records in 5 record stores, in Manhattan and in Brooklyn (Williamsburg). I had the pleasure to attend a fabulous jazz concert with Jason Davis (sax player from Texas) who invited friends to join his quintet. And took a beer in a Jazz Bar in Koreantown. What an experience ! On the stage were Jason Davis and his band, performing in the Jazz Club "Will...

Vinyl Tag 2022 - Mazzy's Whack A Mole Version
Hi Bruno, always nice to see your videos and your wide range of choices. The Steve McQueen acoustic is very high on my wish list. Just to let you know I really enjoyed ‘The Fall : A French Tribute’ that you showed a few months back. Andy
Hello Bruno, always wonderful to see you. I love that Betty Davis album, down and dirty funk. Europe and the the UK have the best new jazz music, amazing what they are creating. Peril Ymoph? Did I get that right? That sounds like an excellent album?
Happy New Year. Nice to see the Delvon Lamarr Trio album (their best IMO) - I had them on my Vinyl Tag w. Jimmy James being a member of True Loves also.
Nice! Great to see that there is this kind of tag going. When I started doing videos, my one wish was that there would be people also in Japan to start this kind of things.
terrible accent. Efforts will have to be made in English.
Terrible comment, Jeff. It could be my last video. I know my accent is not perfect. I also have a French channel, if you want to be rude in French, help yourself. 👋
That Barney Wilen Moshi record is one of my personal favorite jazz albums. Great records. 🍻
Bruno, I loved seeing all these interesting record albums but I would love to know why! I was happy you did the challenge, I knew you would show very interesting covers I took me 30 years to get into Stone Roses, but now I like them. Agree, Walberg didn’t make a bad album.
Hi Bruno, interesting thread and I like the title very much. I’m a big fan of Courtney Barnett and originally bought A Sea of Split Peas on CD but liked it so much I also picked it up on vinyl. I like the fact that the songs revolve around everyday, mundane things around which she weaves a story. I also have Lota Sea Lice, don’t worry your not the only one who doesn’t know what it means😂. I know exactly what you mean about being careful if you don’t already know both artists. I’m not a huge fan of Kurt Vile’s laconic delivery and much prefer Courtney’s solo work. Looking forward to more of these. Hopefully others in the VC will pick up on this as well. Andy
Hello Bruno. How did I miss your last video? I am loosing it. Way too busy with working and taking care of my mom. I like your listening to one album all the way through and then review it or share your thoughts on it. I used to listen to Diesel and Dust at the record store that I worked in called Strawberries. I never liked the cover. But it was a strong album. Enjoyable. I stopped buying Bruce albums after I saw him for the last time in 1985. So my last one was Darkness on the Edge of Town. I still love the first two albums the most. You are right. We related to his lyrics and we could identify with his life. Yes. I do like this new theme of yours. Anything that you post is enjoyable. I love your passion for music Bruno. Way to go~ Rob/Boston
Some really nice choices Bruno.I’m sure you will love Extensions by McCoy Tyner when you get it. My only purchase in the Luminescence series so far is Old and New Dreams which is probably my #1 reissue from 2023. Definitely going to listen to Gnu High now. Merci beaucoup Graham
Thanks for the comment, Graham. I don't know this album. I will check out. Bye. B.
Bonjour, Bruno, bonne année. Great video, with some very interesting records. I missed your New York video, I'll have to go back and watch that. Merci - Hedley
Hello Hedley, thanks for the comment. I have to make more videos in English. My French channel takes time to manage. Take care. B.
Great, fun video to watch. The Lamarr sounds really interesting. Anything with a cover of Curtis Mayfield must be worth hearing. Thanks for sharing. Cheers. Shawn.
Thanks for the comment Shawn. Bye. B.
Hi Bruno. New to the channel via Rob's tag playlist. Lamarr's KEXP album is the only one of the trio I own. Would love to get more. Just listened to Feats Don't Fail Me Now this week. Great album. Enjoyed your tag. Subbed. Cheers, Jeff
Welcome here Jeff. I was surprised how the live session has a very good sound. I hope I could see the trio live one day. Bye. B.
Some nice choices, Bruno. Why it took me so long to buy that Devo album is baffling. Always good to see more French music. I wish you a successful 2024!
Thanks Bruce. I need more Deco, as well. Bye. B.
Awesome video
Thanks. B.
Hi Bruno, I came across your channel while searching Tag videos. You made a good reason to stick with the USA. No need to say sorry. I look forward to seeing more videos.
Thanks Steve. I have also a French channel so I need to take more time to manage this one. Take care. B.
Wallinger would be fun to talk to at a party. You didn’t want to invite Mike Scott also Bruno? I also love crepes. That was a lot of Pepper albums. You have such an incredible jazz collection Bruno, it’s always fun getting a peak at your albums. I knew you would go US for jazz Bruno and funk and soul and Calexico, I love t group. Nice group of US records. Great tag my friend
Thanks Steve. I agree for Mike Scott. I could make "crepes" for both of you... ;-) Bye. B.
YES!!! LOVE seeing more love for the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio and Colemine Records. Colemine is in my backyard and DLO3 is one of my favorites.
Thanks for the comment. I want to see them live. Almost made it in 2023... but unfortunately no... Bye. B.
That Delvon Lamarr live album is stellar. I briefly lived near Seattle the time it was recorded. Wish I was there for the concert.. Nice response!
Thanks. I hope I will see them live as well. B.
Hi Bruno, Happy New Year. I really enjoying watching the vinyl tag videos and yours was no exception. I’ve never seen that Fall Tribute album before, but thanks to you and the powers of discogs it’s now on its way to me. 😀. I enjoyed your New York video, any digging trips planned for 2024? Andy
Thanks Andy. For the comment on the NYC Video as well. I don't have planned anything for this here. Last minute decision as always. Take care. B.
The KEXP live videos are usually great. I also had to go with the 60’s. I always enjoy seeing 7” picture sleeves. I would also like to be invited to your party. My Bloody Valentine us a great choice for the 90’s.
Hello, thanks for the comment. I put you on the list for the party. Take care. B.
You make a very good case for the 60s Bruno. I don't think I have heard any Art Pepper so will try and correct that. Nice Buggles sleeve. I like what I have heard by Say She She on the radio. Stone Roses is a great choice. Nice tag Bruno, cheers Dale
Thanks for the comment, Dale. Cheers. B.
Salut Bruno entre Fred et toi ,+ les anglais j'arrive pas à suivre ! Donc ce soir!😊
Courage. Ça va le faire. B.
Hello Bruno. Could you post a link to the video you made with Fred in French? I searched for it but I don't know what the title is. Is it on your own French channel? What is the name of that channel? Thanks for your videos. I always enjoy them.
Hello Jeff, sorry for answering so late. My French channel is here : www.youtube.com/@escaleakerbiligBZH. We made two videos with Fred. Take care. Bruno
Thank you for sharing quite a few albums that I was not aware of Bruno. The Gaz Croombies from Supergrass is going to get a listen in about ten minutes. I love the Say She She album. Man can they harmonize. I am picking it up sometime this month. Smashing selections Bruno. Once again you delivered a fantastic video. Love your tastes in artists. The best and more to you throughout 24~ Rob/Boston
Thanks Rob. B.
Hahah, Yes, Bruno, at home we tell, we only bought 20 new albums. So it's not possible to make a top10. We all know you bought much more ;) Nice coincidence I listened to Say She She today online. Wanted to check the album out. Hope you find many more new album in 2024. Cheers. /Paul
Thanks Paul. Say She She should be right on your alley (is it OK?). Bye. B.
Hi Bruno, always interesting to see what you’ve been listening to, lots there I wasn’t familiar with. Pure coincidence but I was listen to a band from Rennes earlier today, The Soap Opera, like Lighthouse they sing in English and sound like they could be from North America rather than Brittany. I’ve had a listen to Lighthouse on band camp, an album from 2017 called Fishy, which I liked the sound of. It looks like you can buy the latest one from Beast Records, so I’ll have to give that a go as well. All the best for 2024. Andy
Thanks for the comment Andy. I don't know this band (Soap Opera). I will check this out. Take care. Bruno
Hi Bruno! Happy New Year. Didn't buy many reissues myself. Have been tempted by the Pharaoh Sanders. Maybe in the future (hoping for a little discount :) Hope to see many more videos from you in 2024...in English ;) All the best. Cheers. /Paul
Hello Paul. Thanks for the comment. I am looking for new ideas for this channel. Soon be back I hope. But I have to watch videos as well. Take care. B.
Happy New Year! Nice to see PoiL Ueda on a VC video. I ended up with both their albums this year. Intense experience, and interesting music. I also learned of label mates Ni from France this fall, a rather heavy instrumental band that is perhaps not an every day listen for me, but have their place. (Fol Naïs is their latest).
Yes, Poil Udea is not for everyone. I don't know the band "Ni". I will check out this. Thanks. Bruno
Salut Bruno Bonne année à toi ! Meilleurs voeux pour toi et ta famille. Merci pour cette vidéo, dans laquelle j'ai pu découvrir le polobi et le mike green deux disques sur lesquels je suis passé totalement à côté cette année. Say she she, très bon choix... 'astral plane' a été un titre que j'ai écouté souvent cet automne sur spotify. A+
Bonne année également Chris (désolé pour le retard à l'allumage). Merci pour le commentaire. À bientôt. Bruno
@@seizebreizh merci à bientôt!
A lot of interesting jazz albums. I also really appreciated the Luminesence release of Gnu High. It sounds great. I am looking forward the Luminesence release of Afric Pepperbird by Jan Garbarek in 2024. Happy 2024!
"Afric Pepperbird" is on my waitlist as well. I am waiting for it. Maybe is it already out. I don't know. Thanks. Bruno
Beau panel de réédition, ça fait saliver !
Merci. B.
Bruno super intéressant, peut etre un peu plus (mais cela reflète plus mes goûts) qu'en français, mais bon c'est la première que je regarde, a voir , kenavo
Merci. A+
Aa new incarnation Bruno, to be continued.😊
Merci Jean-Luc. B.
I enjoyed this post, Bruno. I bought a 1970 pressing of 'We Insist!' this summer in Japan. Not sure about it but I'll give it another few spins. I also got some lovely Japanese King pressings of Bill Evans. I know what you mean about dogs reacting to sound. My 'Tales of Edgar Allan Poe' album scares the life out of my pooch! Bonne année par avance.
Hello Bruce, thanks for the comment. Max Roach has an amazing evolution in jazz. Of course, there is political purpose here. I love "We Insist" and I also recommand another one with the pianist Hasaan. I have the Speakers Corner reissue. And of course, I have other productions from him, as his albums with Clifford Jordan. Take care. Bruno
I decided to listen to the English version over the French version Bruno. Pepper was an interesting and troubled artist. I read his autobiography which was very interesting. He definitely had a lot of demons but he made some great music. I am more of a Miles Davis completist. I hope you had a great Christmas
Thanks for the comment, Steve. I hope it is OK for you in 2024 after you moved. I saw that on Facebook. Take care. Bruno
I do remember the Montreux concerts from way way back. I remember buying a Led Zeppelin bootleg in the eighties from the Montreux Casino in 1970. <> I will certainly check out the Barney Wilen. I did not know that a Tone Poet was released for McCoy Tyner's 'TFT'. Thank you for letting us know. <> Wow. The musicianship on the Kenny Wheeler is crazy good. That is a new vinyl series? Excellent update Bruno. Top notch. Your channel should be getting more attention with every new video. You show so many great and essential albums. I continually appreciate your taste in music. Happy New Year to you~ Rob/Boston
Thanks Rob. B.
Good evening Bruno. I understand what you were saying about the vinyl updates, the updates in French versus English, etc... There are so many people making vinyl videos nowadays that it is not intimate and community like anymore. Thirteen years ago there were very few of us making videos in the VC. So today it is much harder to get a solid following in such a large group of collectors. I will subscribe to your other channel. Con't
Thanks for the comment Rob. Yes it is more complicated to get an audience today. The comments are the most important. Take care. B.
Ma French channel : www.youtube.com/@escaleakerbiligBZH
Very good selection here, lot of classics. Marquis de Sade should get more attention on the VC..personal opinion. Thanks for sharing, Kenavo !
Merci pour le retour. En effet, c'est rare de voir Marquis de Sade ici. A+. B.
There are two Dukes of Stratosphere and that is by far the best one Bruno. I really like that Magazine also. Always a pleasure to see you Bruno
Thanks Steve. The other from the Dukes could be a good idea. Take care. B.
I really like those Original Jazz Classics pressings. That is on the New Jazz label am I right? I really enjoyed the two Dukes of Stratosphere releases that I bought. If you are a fan of XTC or Andy Partridge, Colin Moulding and Dave Gregory you will like these albums. Did you enjoy it? I thought Psonic Psunspot was even better than the debut. But they are both great listens. Thanks B~ Rob/Boston
Hello Rob, the label on the record is "New Jazz". On the cover, it is "Prestige/New Jazz". I don't know the other "Dukes" album. Thanks for commenting. Take care. Bruno
Hi Bruno, some cool finds there.
Thanks for watching ! Bye. Bruno
Lots of great lps there. Clifford brown excellent. The magazine lp is seminal. Great ymo record also yukihiro takahashi made many great solo lps. The duke’s mini lp also great.
Hello, I watched your last video... I still have to comment... The Clifford Brown is excellent. I could get the "Acoustic Sounds" version if I can, one day. Mine is a mono version. I don't know of the recent one is stereo. I love all the first Magazine albums. So I had to take this. I don't know Takahashi. But the store in Nantes has an offer in Japanese music. So I will check that out. Thanks for the comment. Take care. Bruno
Good morning Bruno. I will stop back a little later when I get home from the shores. Its going to be a perfect beach day. Which is great singe we just had a tropical storm due to Hurricane Lee that hit some of the east coast. Now is that Clifford Brown/Max Roach a new reissue? Thanks B~ Rob/Boston
Hello Rob, enjoy your day ! It is a Japanese reissue from Roach/Brown. I didn't succeed in buying the "Acoustic Sounds" version here in France. I should have preordered it but I didn't. I also get a Japanese pressing of the Sarah Vaughan with them (for the same reason, didn't get the recent reissue). Take care. Bruno
The Colourfield Deception was released in the eighties was it not? Dynagroove is a recording process introduced in 1963 by RCA Victor that, for the first time, used analog computers to modify the audio signal used to produce master discs for the albums. <> There must be some great violin and guitar playing on that Grappelli album. How is it overall? Is it upbeat? I liked the intro. Edgar Reitz's Heimat sounds interesting. Fantastic #55~ Rob/Boston
Thanks Rob. Yes, Heimat is a must for me. I watched it several times already. The Mancini album sounds amazing. The Grapelli is an excellent piece for violin and guitars... of course. Take care. Bruno
I watched your German journey on FB. You have done some great traveling this year. How can you not love the Pink Panther soundtrack, it is so swinging 60s.
Hello Steve, it has been a good year for travelling for sure. Cornwall, NYC, Rhin river... Thanks. Carry on taking pictures in your country side... I like those old barns... See you somewhere on the net... Bruno
The Pink Panther soundtrack is an album that everyone should have. I was a big fan of Mott the Hoople back in the Seventies. The Django Reinhardt tribute looks very interesting.
My first "Mott The Hoople". It seems to be one of their best. Pure seventies rock. I like it for sure. I'm happy to have this one, even if it is pretty rare that I go for this type of albums. Thanks Mike. Take care. Bruno
My Goal’s Beyond and 12 Dreams are both masterpieces. Excellent picks. First side of that McLaughlin is incredible.
Thanks Fred. Excellent McLaughlin ! I still have to listen to the Spirit album entirely. Merci d'être passé par là. A+. Bruno
