BendPak LIFT FAILURE THREATENS LIVES Companies dodge responsibility!!!
This video shows our BendPak Inc. lift after it spontaneously dropped, a cable loosened, and one of the posts was bent from the pressure. While our Dad was in the shop he was thankfully about ten feet away and fell down but was not injured directly by the life-threatening failure of this lift. Here are the details:
We are a family owned car dealership in Hammonton, NJ. We have been here for 19 years.
We have had our own vehicle above-ground lifts for the past 10 years.
We decided to add another lift to our 4-bay shop and had the company
Garage Equipment Sales and Service, Inc. out of Glendora NJ install a BendPak 4-post Above Ground HD9XW lift in our shop. This lift is rated for 9000 lbs.

    I've worked on a lot of different lifts and even seen a few come off lifts in the 30 years I've been in the automotive industry. Always watch that the vehicle is going up and downs straight even when you have it set up properly, it's not nap time or time to yap to your buddy in the next bay.....they may not work right at times so pay attention and get it fixed.

    Well I had a BendPak HD9 in my garage and had nothing but failures of the 110 pump went through two (2) pumps before I finally said no more 110's. Swapped over to the 220 motor and the lift worked fine. Couple of things "critical" you MUST LEVEL all four posts. Residential garages typically have slopes in the concrete floors for drainage flowing to the front. This can and will cause BIG problems if you don't properly shim the posts and level everything. Also, as stated these 4 post lifts can be used without bolting to the floor - but I would NOT recommend that, bolting to the floor is a much better and safer scenario. Most all of the lift companies in the US sell lifts made in China, BendPak is no exception it's a Chinese lift, so be aware. If safety is of no concern to you then install your lift yourself - however, if you care about safety and that of your family members then have a professional install your lift for about $700 it's peace of mind. Make sure you do your research and vett the company you buy from there are a lot of fly by night shit bum Pirates out there - and it sounds like you found one.

    The cables probably weren't adjusted and the user wasn't paying attention going down. The slack locks engaged probably causing the cables to jump on the 4 stack of sheaves which are also probably bored out due to use overtime. Check out your equipment regularly. Bend paks are called bend crap in my line of work either way

    Wow yeah that's only a 9,000lb lift with a diesel truck on it!!! That is a cheap homeowner grade car lift not a truck, let alone a diesel. Even if the truck weighs less than 9,000lbs most of the weight is in the front, hence why the front is what gave out. 9,000lbs= only 2,250lbs per post meaning maybe the total truck weight was ok, but the rear was underloaded, the front was overloaded. Sadly user error.

    It wasn't lowered onto the locks, that's why it failed, if a cable loosening led to the vehicle falling, then it couldn't have been on the locks, apparently I've learned more about how to operate a car lift in the month since I started the automotive tech program at my local vocational school than you have in 10 years. congratulations, all five of you probably have learning disabilities, and a 17-year-old can use a lift better than you can

  • @imadog131

    Good example of a lift being overloaded. If you are going to lift 4 x 4 trucks, especially diesel trucks you are probably going to exceed the capacity of a 9000 lb lift. Why? Because a 9000 lb lift means 2250 per corner. if you lift a 4 x 4 diesel such as my F250, you have 4800 lbs on the front end. i dont own a shop but i do have a 10,000 lb 2 post in my garage and i have had a few large trucks on mine but they were weighed at the truck stop first. granted a few hundred pounds probably shouldnt make a difference but thats the limitation and for my life Id rater be 300 lbs under that limit that 300 over.

    • @wak359
      @wak359 3 года назад

      No, you do not "... have 4800 lbs on the front end..." I am doubtful that an F250 even has a 4800 lb Front GAWR. A 1990s Cummins powered Dodge W350 only has a GAWR (front) of 4500lbs. If anyone does not know what GAWR means then they should not be babbling nonsense.

    I have a similar Bendpak lift that is a 14000 lb piece of crap I have owned it for two year now and I have followed the recommendations of Bendpak according to there operations manual and have two corner posts bend due to locks that did not release properly upon lowering the vehicle the structure of the corner posts are just too weak and even though the rack is under warranty Bendpack will not replace the posts because they say it is operator error. BS read your operation manual BENDPAK . I replaced my Ammco 12000 lb lift which had a lock or two hang up when I was lowering a vehicle and never bent a post. Bendpak lifts in my opinion are not worth the money and they don't stand behind the product. I paid over $7000 for my lift and even the approach ramps are bent due to driving a heavy vehicle up onto the lift. Shame on Bendpak. Again I never bent an approach ramp on the old Ammco lift.

    Every time we install a lift we showed user/buyer how to properly operate. We test go up and down make sure everything is good to go. Have the lift ready for electrician to wire up to 220volts.

    Lift probably wasn't even resting on the locks. Sorry to say this but 70% of mechanics dont sit their lifts on the locks every single time they go up. Sometimes they forget to come down and rest on the lock.
