    This is the first ground escape you are taught in Isshinryu Karate. I was taught this in 1996 in Karate class. The guy at the Gracie United Dojo tried to claim this doesn't work, but about 30 seconds later I proved him wrong by throwing one of his heavyweight blue belts over my shoulder.

    I miss your point dear Wim. Here is what I do, and I am a long time seasonned grappler (early 2000s). I will, on rare occasion, get the mount and I sag my hips, and bring both of his arms together to stop him from using his arms to get out. It works very well. But I switch to side ctrl cause I prefer side ctrl. My options are limited with the top mount.

      I think he's just saying something like, instead of trying to get him off you, or better your position, instead just defend the best you can so he can't attack any submissions and is forced to move and look for another position. It won't work for any kinds of mma or street fighting ofc, but in competition jui jitsu it makes sense

      The guy couldn't do the technique. When I pushed forward, he could do it. He said yes, but you gave it, I didn't do it. I told him you have to use what your opponent gives you, not what you want.

      @johnluney5663 19 дней назад

      @@WimDeputterBJJstill not making sense. Your partner is trying to explain you are the one making the choice to get off, not him slipping guard. You trying to sound profound about something ridiculous in class when he is asking a question about trying to take a control position from bottom gaurd still went unanswered. Can you answer that coach?

    • @WimDeputterBJJ
      @WimDeputterBJJ 18 дней назад

      He couldn't do the kipping escape because I was not pushing forward. When I did, he was surprised how easy it was. But then he said it was my choice pushing forward, he didn't make me do it. He missed the point that Jiu Jitsu is action reaction, a conversation between two bodies. Many people try to spam "techniques" without being aware of what the partner is doing, like a monologue instead of conversation.

    • @ablabla880
      @ablabla880 15 дней назад

      Buy that other body is resisting me. What you are saying here is you gave him Position. So people are utterly confused by this. Maybe it's a language barrier thing.

    • @WimDeputterBJJ
      @WimDeputterBJJ 18 дней назад

      The point of lifting your head, is to drive more pressure into your frames (arms). If you push from the elbows, it is more tiring and you will expose your elbows.

    You mentioned that the person on top can do three things. 1 go forward, 2 go backward or 3 just stay. 1 and 2 are kind of clear. But most likely person on top will choose option 3 for atleast sometime. Longer than person on bottom can hold the position (I felt my core was getting tired quite fast on the bottom within seconds). So, from the point of being mechanically strong and holding that position for long I feel I can hold positions where I am extending my hips and opening by back for much longer than when I am contracting them to be like a ball. I understand that everyone has different isometric strength capacity and maybe that needs to be trained as well. Do you feel you can hold the contracted position for extended amounts of time? Longer than extension positions?

    • @vijaykrishnan12
      @vijaykrishnan12 22 дня назад

      By extension positions I mean opening the chin away from the chest and doing the baby bridge (the old way 🙂)

    Love your commentary and explanation throughout the video. This is one of your competition videos where you actually rushed things and even acknowledged it)) That lapel thingy is annoying as hell. One of the reasons I really like No-Gi more where with pressure passing they need to actually beat your rotation and establish proper frames to recover guard. The most annoying thing is when opponent uses your belt and puts his foot inside when you’re in top mount position, then just extends it and off you go. I swear, each time that happens I want for punches to be allowed 😅
