Why I prefer Toyo film holders over Fidelity Elite film holders for large format photography.

In this video I will quickly explain why I prefer Toyo film holders over Fidelity film holders. Some people and auctioneers even don´t know the difference between 4x5 and 9x12 (which coincidentally also fits 4x5 camera´s...). If you want to know the difference and want to know why Toyo´s are superior. Then stick around.

DIY film holder. Cheap and easy. Go out and buy some wooden picture frames. Use one as the ground glass and the others as the film holder. 100% accurate. What you see on the ground glass will be the same as on your photo. Simple, easy and cheap. Also great for glass plate photography and ULF photography.

Thank you for the video? Does this light really eliminate the need for a changing bag for you?
Yes no need for a changing bag. But only for black and white pictures. You can also just use a red bicycle light. I'm using it for years in my second dark room where there is no electricity.
I was just looking for a video for making your own film stock for 35mm This video is no help at all
Do you have to the 2nd video?
? Second video? What do you mean?
I found the app in the Apple app Store called Denver 360 action camera and if you can find and side load an android app I use symagix2 which supports the camera. This camera was a generic build, sold and rebranded under a few names like Denver, Immerse (which is mine) etc. My only issue is my battery dies so quick, I think I’ve a workaround with a selfie stick with a micro usb battery bank built in as I can’t find out the replacement battery needed unless I take mine apart. I wondered though, if you could rip the CD to make an ISO file to try share the pc software for others as I cannot find any live links for it online and mine didn’t have a CD included in my box.
.
What camera is that? You never say.
Agfa Isolette camera
Cheap as nuts: 10-15 euro's buys you a nice working camera.
What camera is that?
All I hear is 50 year olds. Have to remind myself it's 50 euros😊
finally! a video that isn't garbage! I've been wondering if this was possible, but I didn't even know what to ask.
Thank you! On my channel you also can find a video on how to build a dedicated Cyanotype camera. Be sure to use a highly sensitive mixture and give it some time try first 1 hour and if the results are good then decrease the exposure time. My best time was 15 minutes. But that is really a bit too fast.
Bro how can i see the photo 😢
Well, assuming you used Ilford RC or FB photopaper. You still need to develop the paper in a darkroom. If you click on my channel you will find video's on how to develop the pictures and how to build a darkoom. Of course if you loaded (or unloaded) the camera in sunlight then the paper will be spoiled/ gone.
Works
Super! Have fun:-)
I own an Alphasmart Neo 2 model. I hope it's a bit MORE IMPROVED than the original Alphasmart Neo. I really WISH those Alphasmart word processors were still being made. Unfortunately, those Freewrite word processors have TAKEN OVER the market and are MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE too!
I also own a Neo2, but don't see much improvement. Still great writing tool.

This is genius! Thank you so much. This will save so much money. I’m going to make an 11x14 pinhole camera and use this design for the film holders. Could you make a vid sometime on how you made the light trap for the dark slide slot? I can’t quite figure it out.
I think I made one already. But I will check. The light trap isn't there: the darkslide slides up but not all the way out. Thus keeping the light out. Another way is to use velcro or felt to line the top. But normally you would take out the slide and place on top of the camera above the darkslide opening to block off the light. But that won't work for a ULF camera. Oh now i thought about another thing. You can make the darkslide with the bottom part hinging with a fkexible tape. So when you pull it all the way up it hinges and you can fold the darkslide over your camera without completely pulling out the slide.
If you are going to use film, you really need a propper light trap. Maybe a little flap that is under spring tension. For me the filmholders never gave any issue since I only work with paper negatives which are not that light sensitive.
Thanks so much! I bought some 11x14 X-ray film. 100 sheets for $65. I’ll figure something out regarding the slot or just load a sheet inside a camera that I build and seal it in the dark to forego the film holder issue altogether. This picture frame solution that you came up with is absolutely genius. If the slot is my only issue, I’m 90% there thanks to you. Keep up the good work. So fun!
@@ryanmaloney9403 well, glad I could help out. If you got any more questions don't hesitate to ask.
Hey thanks a lot for this. I couldnt find thr video where you develop it, and if I dont want to develop this on my own can a photography shop develop it for me? Thanks!
It's called 'Developing pictures' paper negatives development with caffenol. I also got a video on how to mix caffenol with household poducts. A photography shop won't be able to develop them unfortunately or it must be a specialized shop. Don't worry caffenol development is super easy and fun. Hello There! I have a polaroid 600 and i dont have any film for that and its film i very expensive so i was looking for a cheap way to take picture from it...Can you help me with that
Maybe using instax wide film instead. Using photographic paper will be very impractical. You need a changing bag and a way to keep the shutter open for a longer time. I did a land camera conversion to photopaper. It worked.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR WEEKS, I LOVE YOU!
this is dedication
Thanks for the tutorial! It would be helpful to give some tips on where to get such a lens or search terms to find it!
I planned to make a new video on lenses. But it is still in the works. I found lenses online, search: cine lens, projector lens or filmprojector lens. Dia projector lens can also work. I also find these in thrift stores, second hand stores and on photography equipment auctions. The fastest lenses are hard to find. Say F1 or F1.2. Projector lenses are common and usually F2.8. The main idea is to use uncoated lenses. Since the camera needs UV rays. This game is trail and error:-)
@@sneeuwwolf1176 wow. Thanks for the fast answer. Super helpful!
do you still like it?
Yea, still use it. It´s great to let your thoughts just flow from your fingers into the machine. Seamlessly. Love it. So if you got tons of ideas in your head but don´t want to sit in front of a computer with all the discomfort and distractions it has to offer, then the Alphasmart is super.
Did you drill holes for the handles or just glue them on?
I drilled some small holes and then I put some screws in. Be sure to use a tiny drill bit.

Ilford rapid fixer. Works very well.

As an owner of a 8X10 Kodak D4 camera that I bought at the swap meet, I find your video of this DIY 8X10 camera to be very good.
Thanks. It´s a simple contraption but it works. It´s really fun to build a camera.
could this be done with a polaroid land camera j66? I really really want to take some pictures with this thing but there is not any film left for it
I converted a land camera to shoot photographic paper. So should be doable. I need to look into the polaroid j66 to know for sure. My land camera I only needed to tape the sensor shut so I could take bulb mode pictures.
@@sneeuwwolf1176 thank you 🙏🙏
Oh yes, be sure you got a spent cartridge. Without it it will be a pain to take pics.
@@sneeuwwolf1176 Thanks!!!
2:34 You 're saying it right (picture) but then the text on screen says negative. Why?
Because it is a negative that I developed, not a positive. You can develop positive images this way too, obviously.
With that much vitamine C you don't need any of the coffee.
Cool, thanks|! This video is really helpful. Now I just need to know how to transfer the film into the developing glossy paper? I am a full beginner heheee
You mean ´printing´? Using a light source to project the film image onto the photographic paper? So first you develop the film then transfer the image onto photo paper and then develop the photo paper. You can enlarge the film image also. Most of my images are shot with a 4x5 or 120 camera and i take paper negatives (paper in the camera instead of film).
@@sneeuwwolf1176 Yes, that. I appreciate your efforts for writing how to do it to me. However, I am a very visual person. Maybe an idea for your next video? ;) :D
Amazing! show examples of your pictures or do the whole process pls!
Interesting! thank you, it def. worth a try. It would be nice to actually see a video of you doing it for real it'll be 10X times more explanatory and fun! can you make a real demostration, please?
Ok but I don´t know if you can see me developing pictures in the darkroom, since the camera light will spoil the pictures. But I will film the process with the lights on. You won´t see an imageappear on the photopaper, but you will know how it works. If you need a caffenol recipe, check out my other video. I explain in detail how to prep a new batch of caffenol.
@@sneeuwwolf1176 Yes, It's okay. It'll be cool to watch it all. I did watch your other video too, very good! I am looking forward to try myself tbh :D. Where are you based?

Just uploaded a new video quickly stating how to develop pictures. Hope it helps?
Great work! I'm building a 4x5 out of foamcore board and a Kodak Autographic 3A lens. Thanks for the inspiration.
Good luck on building the 4x5. If you have questions, you know were to find me:-)
Would this work if I used a pinhole camera?
Sure sure, be aware that you will need long exposure times. But for sure pinhole will work just fine. Camera takes a few seconds, pinhole takes few minutes depending on how much sunshine you got to play with. You can develop your own pictures easily. Check out ly caffenol c video on how to do it. The fun thing about pinhole camera´s is that you can use any box, be it metal, cardboard or whatever.
Can you please add some photos you have taken with this camera?
Since it´s just a box with a lens you can expect the same quality as any other home made camera. The quality is only affected by the skill of the photographer and the lens used. All the other parts are too simple to fail.
