Can you see the fan once you remove the plastic trim?1
Yes, once the plastic guide is removed as shown in the video you can see the engine bay fans.
Great video. I was able to fix my Macan broken glove box latch using your instructions. I had to guess and test for the screw head locations, but didn't make too much of a mess drilling through to find them. I took measurements afterwards, so if anyone else needs them let me know.
Good morning, Many thanks for your work. I don't know where to write to you for your support. thanks to you I replaced the entire interior with a leather one. Having a 2016 Black Edition, I would like to replace my 2-way Comfort Plus with 18-way Comfort Plus with memories. Is the plug for the steering column already installed, what should I modify? I was thinking of getting the door panels with the memory button. the 2 door boxes, the left and right passenger compartment door harness, is this possible?? thanks in advance
No idea what is required to complete what you want. I haven't ever attempted any of this stuff so I'm not going to be much help.
Merci ,
'll come back to you, you've done so much on the 981. The electric steering has 2 boxes, one for the steering lock and the other for the memory. Where does he connect? without modifying anything?? from the left door everything is connected in the blue and black plug. I discovered the 1st beam is identical in 981/982/991, the central beam the 2nd same. Do you have a possibility for a 981 diagram without 18 channels and one with 18 channels? Many thanks in advance.
thank you
Hi Jeff I have problem when i go engine it`s show Dynamic Mount fault but i don have sport chrono how to turn off in piwis for good this option in my car?Thank You
Take a look at the following thread. There are some posts further down the thread that explain which warning you want to turn off. www.planet-9.com/threads/padm-information.252418/#replies
Hi, what are the part numbers for the tapered roller bearings on the LSD? I have a constant whine while driving straight and it goes away when I chug the car seriously to the left. One of the bearings is seriously bend out of shape. And is the left and right bearing the same or do they have different part numbers? Thank you (I own a 991.1 Carrera S, so will they be any different?)
No idea about the part numbers, and from what I understand they aren't available as an individual part from Porsche. I'd be taking the bearing to a bearing dealer to see if they can match it to a standard bearing.
I am trying to remount my loose mirror. My discovery shows that a previous owner tried to use silcone on the rain sensor to attach to the screen. I have the mirror dislodged from the rain sensor but its dangling and the rain sensor is also dangling. I feel like these are preventing me from getting the plastic piece to adhere properly. Do you think I can remove the 2 pieces at 3:09 and get access to the rain sensor plug or do you think I need to take all the trim pieces off to do this. This is 9 year old plastic and it likes to break.
I'd be removing all the trim to get access to it and see where the problem lies and remove all the silicone from the previous owner. Getting access to the rain sensor and plug I think it going to be difficult without removing the trim. Note that for the loose mirror, there have been numerous instances where the metal tabs on the mirror get bent out a bit, and so bending them back will have the mirror be held much more securely.
@@jeffrichardsoncardiy Thanks Jeff I am elbows deep in it. I think what got me was that there is a ridge on the plastic mount and button mount adhesives are not going to fill the gap. I think they put the ridges there so that their adhesive has a channel and doesn't squeeze out. I am going to try a 2 part epoxy to re-adhere. I think the mirror prongs are ok.. if they are not then its going to be a judgment call for putting the auto dimmer mirror back or getting one of the new fancy digital jobs. Thanks for your content and reply.
@@Turbotuberx3 If you are talking about the plastic mounting bracket that is stuck to the windscreen glass, I wouldn't be using epoxy. I think it's stuck on with SMP (silyl modified polymer), which is the black stuff they stick on the windscreen with.
@ good bad or ugly the epoxy did the trick. I think SMP you mention is what the windshield guy has. I can say that it is well stuck for now. I think if I had to do this again I would just have led with the professional guy. I ashamed to admit I probably have close 3 hours in the attempts and fix at this point. Life lesson.
Amazing video and explanation skills. Thank you for taking the time and effort to creat all the necessary diagrams and show every process in action, in the actual transmission. Excelent work!
The Boxster is a better can than the 911, it has a mid mounted engine which makes any rear mounted engine car inferior. The best handling cars have mid mounted engines hence why f1 cars have mid mounted engines.
I purchased the sensor, problem solved! Very satisfactory support during installation…thanks Jeff. I write from Italy
Happy to help. Great the car is back on the road again.
HELLO, panamera 971 Turbo - I changed PDK clutch for new, double flywheel also - nothing changed. slipping is only on one clutch - gears 2 and 4 checked and always slipping ( i suppose 6 and 8 also ) another one clutch - gears 1 3 5 - (suppose 7 also ) - never slipping. The same was on old pdk clutch, the same now with new pdk clutch. Do you think it is solenoid or pressure regulator problem?
I have no experience with the 8 speed PDK in either the 911 or Panamera so I'm not going to be any use.
The Renault-engine Lotus Europa was easy to work on.
Whats the cable and adapter you are using? Any recomendations on where to get one?
Since making this video, another enthusiast has posted about a PIWIS 3 that is much easier to setup and far cheaper. I have it as a backup and it works well. Link here that explains. rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/1448979-a-piwis-3-for-only-75-a.html
@jeffrichardsoncardiy thanks. My car is 2001 boxster. From what I heard so far it may not be fully supported by piwis 3. Because it had k-line and not can protocol. Not sure how true, but internet says about piwis 3: "Not designed for older K-line cars; mainly supports newer CAN-based Porsches"
@@VPetushchak Take a look at the link below. I wrote this years ago when I first made the VM. It has interface information there as well as a link that goes to another thread that discusses interfaces specifically. www.planet-9.com/threads/piwis-2-setup-as-a-virtual-machine.238021/
Jeff, did you ever get to the bottom of this? Why is that hole so big for the bolt?
I think the hole is big for build tolerances. I never really got any solid answers as to why they come loose. I contacted Porsche and explained the issue and heard nothing back. My thoughts are still that if the bolt is mounted well off center in the large hole, then the movement of the strut when the car drives eventually just loosens it due to the asymmetric force on the bolt head. I now have some witness paint pen marks on the bolts that show if it's backing out and needs tightening. I check each service.
Thanks for the reply. So I will include this in my annual service checks. If I get to 30nm with no movement I will assume it’s ok.
Hi Jeff, Very well done sir. Your directions are clear and the tips you provided are priceless. I’ll be replacing a heater blower relay tomorrow which requires removal of the glovebox. So, thank you for taking the time to document the procedure. Bill a.k.a. Puckster
G'day Puckster. Happy to help.
I clic follow the second you said you buy a Porsche to strip down. Best way to throw your money imo
Oh man you make me want to buy a Porsche even more
Bravo! That’s good content. That was a great primer on how to approach work on your Porsche. And thanks for showing the actual best way to put a car on jackstands that no one else seems to understand.😮You should step through that for us. Explain how you approach a chassis seam to make it easy to put it up in the air and get jackstands under it. I want to put forth the Mini R53 as a car I really like to work on. Fairly straight forward to get access to anything. 👍👍👍
I have an problem after HYDRAULIC calibration fail.... Now no gears - error P080A00 ... Can you help? Give advice ? My Full description of problem is below: FAILED PDK CALIBRATION (Hydraulic) - P080A00 - Panamera 971 Turbo 2017 - after replacing the PDK clutch and dual-mass flywheel, changing the oil and gearbox filter. Drive and Reverse worked in the car. I checked the oil level in the gearbox, it is full Calibration without part replacement - succesfully. SHIFT RODS calibration - OK/locked PDK clutch calibration - OK/locked. Calibration with part replacement - NOT PROCESSED. When trying to calibrate the hydraulics (stop 22% all the time) - it constantly stops the calibration process. In the car, it displays error P080A00 - PDK not learned. It can be removed, but it still appears when the ignition is turned on. Now neither DRIVE nor REAR works in the car - it only displays the gear lever position P, D, N or R but no gears. I use the original Porsche Tester VCI OBD head (actia), I tried PIWIS version 42.400.037 and tried 38.250 - I tried engineering and normal mode - no changes, still does not finish hydraulic calibration. Should I try another version of PIWIS? KTS, GUTMAN, LAUNCH, AUTEL diagnostic testers - do not have a calibration option. I was wondering whether the problem was the changed map in the DME gearbox controller? But from what it seems to me, during calibration the DME controller is restored to factory settings?
I don't have any experience with the Panamera transmission. Some of what you describe is different to the sports car transmission calibrations. I don't think changing the tester will fix the problem. The calibration routine resides in the TCU, not the diagnostic tester from what I've observed. The tester just turns it on and reports the results.
Great video. Doing this install can pop a code on your E70. I believe it’s 3FC0 code to be exact.
Next week’s project. Thanks Jeff. 🇨🇦
I need 4 seats though.
I have a 991 PDK and have a deep appreciation for the engineering and testing that went into the development of this DCT. Jeff, thanks for explaining it so well and thoroughly.
So for the 4WD, you only use the driveshaft hole to pull the cover back on? Edit: you just said the answer in the video!
I'm currently binge watching your videos. I don't own a Porsche but have been obsessing about owning one for a while, especially as have been driving a 911 GT3 RS around the Nürburgring in Gran Tourismo 7 in VR on Playstation 5 a load and this virtual obsession has spilled over to real reality! I'd like to think I can lay my hands on a 718 Boxster in the next half decade. I'm pretty handy and would love to be able to fix and service a car myself. But that would require a house with a garage, and currently I don't have that. So I'd need a bigger house and a Boxster, so that gets expensive. I'll keep watching your videos though. Nicely done 👍🏼
One failure with PDK. One Porsche salvage yard to;d me get a manual transmission cuz Porsche doesn’t sell repair parts for PDK. The be that is a giant fail no matter the technology. I would boycott on principle alone
Hi Jeff! Where are you located? My 911 has this problem and I am not near anyone other than the dealer to have this confirmed or repaired. Thank you for your helpful videos.
I'm just north of Newcastle on the east coast of Australia. If you want to talk about it, send an email to the channel address: jjrichar12@gmail.com
Agree with Cayman but 911 is a nightmare. Just to change the spark plugs you need to: jack up rear, remove wheels, remove wheel arches, partially or fully remove exhaust (depending on M/Y), remove heat shields, and you better have lots of extensions, wobbles, etc., because it's all so cramped together. Cayman plugs are easier, no need to remove exhaust . . . But, US Domestics, and Japanese vehicles, Uh, well, you just pop the hood and get to removing or installing the plugs . . . . (lol)!
It really is nuts how the big box companies charge over $100 for what in theory is just a large plastic agitator in the shape of a bucket.
My glovebox light has stopped working - which points to the microswitch having failed. And since I plan to replace it myself, this has really helped - thank you!
Stick with the stick. Dump the Doppelkupplungsgetriebe
As a Boxster owner for 10 years You obviously haven’t tried to change the Oil air separator, or replacement of the coolant tank another nightmare, not to add some suspension bolts have 16mm head and17mm nut not difficult just frustrating.
These solenoids all the same connectors? Valve body under rear quater do they use the same ones also? Thinking of replacing all 4
the engineers that design and assemble this gear assembly are brilliant!
Thanks, exactly the info I was looking for.
Great video for exactly what the intro aimed at. Impressive
Might be the best video on RUclips! I feel like I just received an entire degree in mechanical engineering
Thanks. Much appreciated.
i really appriciate your effort and i have question. does this sensor provide same performace just like genuine porsche pdk sensor?? and there will be any problem in securing supplies in the future???
It gives a very similar response to the OEM sensor. I plan to be doing this for a while so hopefully these sensors will be available for a good time to come.
Hi Jeff, having a few issues with my 991.1 S PDK. It’s had the 12 year service done with both fluids changed. Mileage is 99k I get an intermittent grinding/crunch when downshifting when engine is cold. Slight judder when moving off in 1st gear Car can be very jerky when in P and selecting D and driving off - almost like the gearbox is confused It’s under warranty, any ideas?
The first thing I would try is to do a calibration, but this rarely fixes problems. If it's under warranty I'd be taking it to the Porsche dealership and tell them to fix it.
@@jeffrichardsoncardiyhi Jeff, the dealership are replacing the PDK under warranty. You were right!
@@fahadhussin6612 That's very good news.
oh my god!!! you are the hero
Hi Jeff, I really appreciate your videos. I’m planning to clean my intake valves soon and was curious about the wooden guides you made. Would it be possible for you to take a top-down picture of each one next to a ruler? I’m considering 3D printing some. Also what grit walnut shell would you recommend using?
Can you contact me on the channel email address: jjrichar12@gmail.com. It might take a while as where I live has been hit by shocking storms and I have no power/internet/phone. but I should be able to get the info you need at some stage. I don't know what the grit was. It was just some generic stuff off ebay.
This is great news! I may reluctantly need to change to a Cayman with a PDK and this would bring a lot less worry.
Hi. Could you tell me what the shafts RPM are in neutral?
Will be less than engine RPM, but dependent on temp. Normally when warm I'd expect about 400 on shaft 1 and a bit less on shaft 2.
Not sure if you’ll ever see this but is the gt4 also the same as a 991 ? I’m looking to replace a front tub of a gt4 and I can only find a front tub of a 991
I'd compare part list numbers. For the most part they are going to be the same, but their might be some very small differences. For example the 981 Boxster tub is identical to the 991 C2 tub, but the 981 Cayman is slightly different. The tub is made of a number of parts, so there is clearly one or more of these for the Cayman this is slightly different. It could be something that makes no difference, but the parts list will spell it out.
Bloody gold. Thank you for demystifying this.
Fantastic video mate, thorough and concise. Footage was perfect. I’m about to drop my valve body for the first time to replace input/output sensors causing limp mode. Cars 260,000kms and 24 years old, what do you suggest replacing while I am in that deep? Thanks in advance and love from Aus
I'd definitely be replacing the main pressure control valve. I'd suggest the Transgo valve. Inexpensive and works well. What exactly is the issue with the transmission? What are the input/output sensors you talk of. Is it the selections switch on the outside, as that often is a cause of the transmission going into limp mode.
@@jeffrichardsoncardiy Thanks i’ll take a look into the Transgo main pressure control valve. 4:52 you pull out the output speed sensor 9:33 you point to the input speed sensor under the valve body These two sensors are critical in this trans functioning and if the trans computer (EWS) doesn’t receive precise data from the sensors it will put the trans in failsafe mode (locked to 4th gear) which is my current issue. Code says intermittent short with sensors, so I am replacing both sensors with brand new OEM to troubleshoot. I will inspect the wiring harness as well. Will be doing this next week
@@royalt7147 Sounds like you are all over it. If you have codes pointing to those sensors then that's going to be a pretty good indication of where the problem lies.
@@jeffrichardsoncardiy You have such an impressive write up on e46 fanatics. Thanks to you this info is public and someone like me can study it and accomplish miracles. I am extremely grateful. I bought this e46 stuck in 4th gear and haven’t truly experienced the car yet. Step 1: I will replace both speed sensors, EDS1 solenoid, and install the transgo repair kit. Hopefully by then i’ve unlocked my transmission and can enjoy it problem free. Otherwise step 2: Open up the valve body and inspect, possibly upgrading the channel & separator plate and piston dampers
