Anzani ¼ scale Y type model engine
This is a model of a 30hp 3 cylinder engine from 1910. These engines were used to power the first aircraft.
The model was designed by L. W Chenery and built by Michael Stratton
It has a 1” bore, a 1¼” stroke and a capacity of 48cc. In the video it turns a 20” x 8” propeller.
The exhaust valves are operated from a cam on the camshaft but the inlet valves are “automatic”, as they open on the suction of the descending piston. Lubrication is provided by an oil pump to drilled passages in the crankshaft.
All the machining was done on a manual lathe and milling machine, no CNC was used.
The curved propeller in the video is some weird strobe effect caused by the camera frame rate.

V6 Video
Просмотров 31 тыс.2 года назад
This is a 93cc (5.7Cu in) 90° V6 model aero engine. It is made entirely from standard bar stock, mostly aluminum. The design is by Wolfgang Trötscher of WTEngines.com who also sells the drawings. I have modified the design a little, mainly the intake manifold and carb. The design splits the crankcase and crankshaft into three parts, making construction on small machinery possible. This also mea...
Holt 75 Model Engine
Просмотров 28 тыс.3 года назад
This is a fully working model of a 4 cylinder Holt 75 petrol engine. These were used around 1915, mainly in the USA, to power tracked military and earth moving vehicles. The original had a capacity of 22.9 litres and produced 75 horsepower at 550 rpm. The model has a 1” bore x 1 ¼” stroke to give a capacity of 64cc. It will idle about 700rpm and go up to 4000rpm, but being a fairly long stroke ...
Hall's Rotary Engine
Просмотров 7 тыс.4 года назад
This is a 1/6 scale model of a Hall's rotary steam engine from 1868. It could be described as the 19th century equivalent of the modern Wankel petrol engine in that it produces direct rotary motion with no intervening reciprocating motion. The full size engine was not a commercial success, mainly because of its high steam consumption for the power produced. The model here is being run on compre...
Model Overcrank Steam Engine
Просмотров 7045 лет назад
This is a one third scale model of an overcrank steam engine at the Quarry Bank Mill in Cheshire, England. The design and drawings are by Stewart Hart. It is made entirely from standard bar stock, except for the flywheel casting. The twin cylinders have a bore of 20mm and a stroke of 36mm. The overcrank design gives a very compact engine as the space usually taken by the crosshead is removed. I...

Has it got split crank pins for even firing or is it an odd firing engine?

    • @michaelstratton6059
      @michaelstratton6059 2 года назад

Its odd firing with a 90° vee. Split crank pins would be very difficult to machine on a small engine like this.

@@michaelstratton6059 That thing runs better than half the commercially sold V8s I hear on a daily basis. An air cooled version of that thing would be amazing in a sufficiently large RC airplane! And the liquid cooled one in something like a Primal RC Raminator would be just mint.
