Mamiya 250mm f6.3 TLR Lens After Cleaning
I got this lens on ebay a while ago, and it had a little haze on the inner elements. I did a video about it here:
ruclips.net/video/Sin6SHCwpos/видео.html
I sent the lens for cleaning and I think now it is ready for more serious photos. Take a look at results and let me know what you think.

Damn. Not a bad lense.
It's a good one. I've seen people using it on 50 mpx Pentax 645Z and happy with it
Love the review. The FE was my first film camera, purchased in 2008 used for $70, based on the recommendations of Ken Rockwell... In my eye's it's still the most perfect distilled camera.
Thank you! Yeah, Nikon FE is a lovely camera. Still can be found fairly cheap, and you have all the Nikon F lens army to support it
درود بر هموطن لایکا شناس!
دروود 👍👍
Very intersting. By chance I have also purchased a infrared filter (off Amazon) for my C330. I have yet to purchase the Rollei infrared film. Can you tell me where you got the film and how much it cost? Thanks !
Awesome! Infrared photography is so much fun and Mamiya C330 is an amazing camera for IR photos. I usually get my film from local camera stores. In this case from GalaxyCamera in Ottawa and I think it was around $15 for a roll of 120
I have a Leica m3 that just got passed down to me. I shot a roll of film with 50mm lense. But is the default frame line 35mm? So are my shots gonna be all zoomed in and wrong?
Leica M3 has frame lines for 50mm. If you used those framelines, your shots are gonna be ok. Enjoy your M3, it's the best Leica ever made and the best viewfinder for 50mm lenses.
Lovely photos! Keep it up!
Thank you 🙏
this is painful to watch, I would just use 50mm
Haha, 50 is too easy 😂
beautiful pictures, especially the BMW looks great
Thank you. I was just trying to get some test shots. I hope I can get much better photos soon
I just bought one on eBay, can’t wait to use it. You guys know which battery it takes?
Awesome! I use LR44 battery. But remember it's just for the light meter, the camera is fully mechanical and doesn't need battery to operate
Your Leica-combi definitely needs a strict diet !!😂
Yeah, that M3 was hanging out with the Texas Leica too much 😂
Nice
@@patrickrostker6693 Thanks
What is the purpose of this? To see if you get a click?
Thank you for the video! Your voice is so calm and somewhat charming, and photographs are good too. ❤ I miss film photography, honestly. Went digital, but still, film photography was way more fun IMO
Thank you so much! Yeah film cameras are really fun to shoot and you can get very good result with them
I love the M240. The Iranians are beautiful people.
Thank you ❤️
Bought one off Ebay too. Yet to shoot with it but it is on my agenda. Very nicely made camera.
@@MichaelRusso One of the most iconic 35mm cameras! Enjoy shooting!
I've got a C-330 and also the 250MM Lens, which I have never used. After seeing your video, I'm going to put it on the camera and shoot a roll with it!
@@williamshaffer9216 Awesome! It's a great lens, and it deserves to be used!
This is it. I bought for my Minolta Autocord as well. There great if you don't use the camera the whole time and use different speed films.
Thanks so much for your tips. I didn't know you could add the newer hood to the older camera. Another great addition I made is the film box lid holder I bought from Ebay. There are a lot of cheap 3D printed ones but I got a really good one. I'll try an put a link. With the film holder and the enclosed hood it is pretty much the F version!!
Thanks for your comment. So glad that it was useful for you
Thank you, very informative.
Glad it was useful and thanks for watching 😊
Nice lenses, I would get Panasonic Leica 50-200mm instead of the 100-300mm. It's much better quality and also accept teleconverters
The problem with that Leica 50-200mm is that it is very expensive brand new, and not easy to find it used
I once had the 250/6.3 lens which I bought new, but was disappointing. It was not very sharp and showed only little contrast. All other lenses were great, however. I shot my best pictures with the Mamiya.
I also saw low contrast results with my 250mm, but when I checked it had a little haze on one of the inner elements. I had it cleaned now, and I'm gonna use it again to see how it works
Ha ha...I have the Mamiya C330 and I am picking up my first Hasselblad 500 CM tomorrow morning with three lenses. I know what you mean about the itch. I've had it for 30 years. Time to act!!
I have to warn you, Hasselblad feels better than the C330, I see myself using Hasselblad more and Mamiya less, but I still love that beautiful Mamiya, so I feel bad for it
@@frozenf8 Yeah, that's what I was thinking. But I do have my father's Minolta Autocord TLR that I still use quite a bit. So hopefully I'll get them all used. I can't wait to collect it tomorrow!!
@tonymonaghan5993 Awesome! enjoy your Hasselblad
@@frozenf8 So I have it. I'm in love!!! What a camera.
@tonymonaghan5993 Love that feeling 🤩Enjoy it and take lots of good pictures. I have picked up a couple of "unusual" lenses for mine and I'm planning to do a video on them, so stay tuned 😉
just bought the camera, this is my first camera and stumbled into your video after searching for videos bout the camera, i hope i can get as much life out of the camera just like your wife did
Congrats on your first camera!
Wow amazing work! btw do you push the film?
Thank you! I didn't push it for this series because I was shooting at f0.95 and shutter speed of 1/15 or 1/8 so I didn't really need to push
Good job, it can't be easy to focus a .095 lens.
Thanks, it is a challenge for sure, but M3 viewfinder makes it a little easier and film is more forgiving so a little out of focus is not that bad
Great work!
Thank you 🙏
Nice and simple film camera! Love this Nikon FE. Great vid
Thank you 🙏
...very helpful information...thanks...
Thank you 🙏
Great review! Nice images! Wonderful to see a keen film photographer in action. Will the new Rollei 35 AF stir up renewed interest in these older models? 😎
Glad you enjoyde the video! I have seen some promosing reviews about the AF model, but I don't know, I think for street photography manual focus is still better
@@frozenf8 yes, I agree. With the electronic heart in the AF, it has become a very expensive point and shoot Rollei. Hopefully the old mechanical Rolleis will be with us for one, maybe two more decades.
My hometown! Great video.
Awesome, thanks for watching

Several people myself and Ken Rockwell included believe this to be one of the greatest portrait lenses ever made for 35mm - there are a few contenders - I have the one previously owned by French/English actress Audrey Tautou which came attached to the Leica M8 she was given by Jena Pierre Jeunet to be used in the Chanel Advert set aboard the Orient Express and filmed on location in Istanbul. The camera and lens can be seen in the 2 minute odd film. This was thier third pairing as he directed her in Amelie, A Very Long Engagement and the ad. If anyone is remotely interested I will be selling the M8 and the lens along with a Euro charger shortly as I have too much Leica stuff - Pro for 35 years becoming a humble hobbyist!!
@@nelsonclub7722 Cool stuff! How did you get your hands on that camera & lens?
@@frozenf8 Hi there - I worked in the film industry for a while as a cinematographer and itty bitty small time music video and TV Ad director - so it was just a chance encounter really - we struck a deal and hey ho - Leica London helped a bit - its a keeper for sure for someone - but actually I am getting it valued tomorrow at Clifton Cameras Cheltenham as I've simply no use for it - (SL2 with M lenses now)- so will feedback from that - have a good one - Simon J Miller
@nelsonclub7722 Awesome
The Nikon F with plain prism finder is still a very nice option. IMO, buying one with any of the several TTL prisms made over the years, not so much. The meters use mercury batteries, a constant issue with old meters, but which can be worked around. For the NIkon, the biggest issue is the unfortunate engineering and materials choices made at the time. Apart from looking like the chunky add-on they are, the electrical components have not borne the passage of time, failing with no repair parts and dubious repairs options. Nikon's efforts at TTL metering didn't reach prime time until the Nikkormat series launched. Somewhat oddly, Nikon's metering effort mirrored the TTL metering of Miranda body a full generation of cameras preceding the F. Miranda did it earlier and more cleanly styled. The Nikkormat closely copied their ideas.
@@randallstewart1224 Thanks for the info, and about the simple prism finder, I totally agree, it's very nice, the only problem is they are getting harder to find and more expensive
I think the nikkormat el is a best beginner film camera since it’s cheaper, robust and you can learn the functionality of auto mode on a film camera
No doubt that the Nikkormat is a good choice, but I still think the FE has better build quality and a little more robust
Did you use any filters?
No, I usually don't use filters
Nikon F+ seconic meter+ decent film = :)
True 👌
thanks for the video ... i have the tripod but i have with the second section of the tripod legs ... it's not opening at all .. !! did u have this problem ?
Mine was ok. Is it the twisting locks? Maybe you can force it to open
right to the point: i do appreciate your excellent review 08:20 what is the moderne lens you talk about? (to avoid flare)

can you share in what situations you would or would not use flash with this mju camera?
For outdoor photos, I usually turn the flash off, but for indoor I just let the camera decide
Hi, you made my day because I had Mamiya C330 with the 80mm when I was in photography college (CEGEP Vieux-Montréal) in 1970. But I did not bought a other lens after . Great souvenir !!! I keep the camera 3 years. Great souvenir !!! But now I regret that sold it. Great souvenir !!! Great video...THANKS !!!
@@marcfoto Glad to bring some memories back!
I got my first one in 1975.
Awesome, do you still use it?
@@frozenf8 I have a few Hasselblads, I was a pro for many years; but no, these days they don't get used, I just can't imagine letting them go.
Great info. Thanks. Do you know if the S waist level finder works on a Mamiya C220?
Glad you liked it. I never worked with Mamiya C220 but based on what I find online, there is not a lot of difference between the two, so I imagine that the S viewfinder can be used on C220, but you gotta research more to make 100% sure.
@@frozenf8 check out the Photrio forum classifieds today for some C330 sports finder masks and a C330 manual if you don’t have one.
I really love the video and the story you shared. I really love the camera too. Mr first Zenit was the 12XL; the identical twin of the 122 produced for the Latin American market. I loved that camera so much, I bought the Zenit 122 as well 🥰 These cameras can be operated at subzero temperatures...not too many cameras can do that! 🤗 Awesome cameras that...in spite of their plastic shell...are built like tanks! 🥰
Thanks for sharing your story and glad that you liked the video 🙏
The halatian worked well. I think my favourite was the Cat - just because less cliched than the rest; that is NO reflection on you, I’m not saying your work is ever cliche, just recognising that cinestill t has some fairly distinct use cases, and where you are is not exactly awash with choice… That’s one of the joys of modular cameras tho. If you have the money to dedicate a film back to it, you can always have a specialist night urban film loaded in ready to take the one or two pics at a time when you want it… Thanks again for sharing your work, enjoyable as always.
I also like the Cat trucks the most. It's a good idea to dedicate a separate film back to a favorite film stock. Thanks for watching and the feedback.
Beautiful shots!
Thanks! Glad you liked them!
