US Armoured Rifle Company HQ Unboxing and Thoughts
Great video for beginers. Thanks. One thing I didn't quite catch is what is the best wash to use on Union Civil war figures? (Also ones say from ICM, Masterbox in 1:35)?
For Union I use a black wash as it’s a good base to highlight up from 👍
For Union I use a black wash as it’s a good base to highlight up from 👍
@ Thank you. Any specific brand and type/number you would recommend? Sorry for the Qs but I really am new at this with 68 yrs old.
@@TrevorMillinI really like citadel washes from games workshop so I would recommend them. Army painter and Vallejo are great brands aswell
@@KingMATTtheSuperior thanks kindly for your answers. I guess I'll try out with a black wash from Vallejo then as most of my newly bought acrylic paints are all from Vallejo.
Thanks this was extremely informative. I've done them before but it was a good refresher!! I just bought an absurd amount of Foundry minis from the Christmas sale so I will be doing a lot of this soon! When LBMS and Victrix complete their merger...lol, unlucky timing for me right now, but I've got plenty to build first. Cracking army mate, nicely done
Enjoy your foundry miniatures and hopefully you will not have to wait long to pick up some transfers 👍
@@KingMATTtheSuperior Thanks bud. They're really nice Caesarians, a lot of work - carving out hands for gladius and pilum is rough work but they are lovely minis - shields and transfers separate is a lot work that is very much worth it as these are gorgeous transfers. I was actually super excited about, and pleased to see you show what I suspected about these Romans transfers, where they are cut in halves when preparing them. I was worried the trimming and detail cutting of the transfers would be too intricate for the oval shields but breaking them up into halves is great, as it should make it easier to leave the spine and boss clean and even line them up easier! I'm not so jealous of the Imperial Romans now who just have to cut the boss out :D
@ well best of luck 👍 there’s so much choice with the transfers you can have a lot of fun making different units
Did you resin print these?
Yes I did
What color did you use for the USCT skin tone?
I’m not 100% sure but I believe it was citadels Catachan flesh
Fantastic Stuff as always bud!
Thanks buddy!
Very nice figures, just subbed
Thanks!
Lovely mini's Matt , you'll have to give them another coat of matt varnish. Good action poses.
I think you’re right! I’ll give them another coat 👍 thanks Leslie
@@KingMATTtheSuperior You should! But already really nice blokes that triggered me: 3D printer on its way ;-)
How do these Resin minis stack up against the Perry acw minis, as far as scale, mate?
Similar height but I have found the warlord games sculpts are thinner in the body. Once I’ve painted them up I’ll do a video where I should them next to some Perrys plastics 👍
@ That’ll be great man. Are you on Instagram?
@gardensbytheminute2668 yes I am :)
@ I just realised I’m already filling you hehe
Very helpful. Thank you
I’m glad you found it useful 👍
They look great! I miss the painting streams but its good to see the vids still coming out!
Sorry I’ve been abit rubbish with the streams. I’m finishing it hard to find hobby time at the moment but when I get the time they will be back!
I’ve just finished my own Berdan sharpshooters with the Perry metals. Not sure if they will have had a standard as skirmishers didn’t have them I don’t think. Nice figures
Thanks 👍 I can’t say I’ve looked for any flags. I think I’ll leave them as they are
Fantastic job 🤠🤠😍😍
Thanks 👍
Really nice work mate
Thanks 👍
Lovely poses and nice paint job!
Thanks Phil!
Nice figures and painting....but I thought that in the field Berdan officers carried rifles.
I haven’t found any information on the commissioned officers using rifles however being a “skirmish” unit it sounds posisble.
Very nice 👍
Thanks VK!
Beautiful work Matt!
Thankyou!
Superbe,comme d'habitude. Continue.
Thanks Vince!
Thay look brilliant you have done a great job on them cool 🤠🤠🤠👍👍👍
Thanks rob!
Splendid battery, I do like the diversity of the poses, the paint job...and the barrels!
Thanks Phil! I do like these poses and I can definitely see myself picking another box up at some point.
Yes, really nice Matt! (No NCOs?)
@Forcade23 thankyou! As for the NCOs I’m just using what I have in the box. I’m happy with hem however.
Good job Matt
Thanks Neil!
Excellent Matt
Thanks Allan 👍
Where is all the 3D printed models Matt?
Well I’ve almost finished my iron brigade I printed and my confederate infantry are on the painting bench 👍
Very nice Matt
Thank you 👍
Glad i watched this before applying - I was also tempted to not bother with painting my shields white!
I’m glad you found it useful 👍
6th LA! Nice work!
Thankyou 👍
I`m thinking if you break one of these in ownership, how easy are this resign figures to repair? Or are you going end up with a lot of broken muskets? I`m also struggling to see the generic theme Warlord are doing for this range. The are so meticulous for their Bolt Action minis. I`m thinking Warlords are not that bothered.
If something is broken -as it was with the first boxes- simply send it back. Warlord replaced my items on very short notice.
Well I’ve successfully managed to repair the broken miniatures I’ve had so I’m not worried about that. I think warlord are making the most of the range they bought, from interviews how passionate John stallard is about the American civil war I doubt warlord are “not that bothered”. I think they saw this as a cheaper way of releasing an 28mm range and have had to make some sacrifices with the range from old glorious. I’m Sure if warlord games were to sculpt their own range it would be different to what we have here maybe.
That’s what I’ve done in the past with miniatures fresh out of the box broken.
@@KingMATTtheSuperior Its only the ACW was "my" period that caught me as an historical interest. Both side s didn't have fancy uniforms, but did have a recognisable style through out the war. I`ve also re-enacted it, and folks go to some efforts to "get it right" in their impression. There always some nit pickers in the crowd that knew better. Also some very well read people that knew a lot about ACW uniforms. My passion is a lot less now, but still irritates me to see OH they will do for both sides.
Really appreciate getting a look at the casts in these videos.
I hope people are finding these videos useful :)
Indeed, nicely done and helpful! Indeed wasn`t sure if arms would be separate again... Thanks Matt!
@@Forcade23 no problem :) glad it’s of use
Good, interesting review.
Thanks VK!
I do like the figures but to be a nit pick, Warlord is trying to sell one box that should be three different ones. Union kepi hats, Union slouch/ western hats, and then a stand alone Confederate box with a variety of headgear and uniforms. I wish they would be less generic for the ACW range.
I can only assume they’re Trying to make the most of the sculpts they have available? I’m not so clued up on the forgotten glorious range so I’m Not sure what sculpts warlord now have. I do hope we see more releases in the future which might solve some of your issues with the range so far.
Totally agree, but that`s Warlord style marketing, isn`t it?! If I remember right F&G offered a first batch of guys in frock coat with caps (mainly the firing & attacking published now again), the 14th Brooklyn (now "Zouaves Regiment") with some 25 sculpts and a more extensive range for the Iron Brigade with hats (mixed into boxes). In addition there were command packs for federals and rebs so to decide for yourself what side -at least your outfit in frocks and caps- should take in the end. That`s somehow as it is by standard when buying metals and building your units. Warlord took, what seems to be available and organized them into generic boxes mainly based on poses. Okay. But for my taste most accoutrements tend more to early war federals while there stays some problems with the headgear. The other way round it is with early rebs...Perhaps would have been best if they would offer smaller boxes, but in this case I think we had to face a shocking price for these nice minis ;-)
@@Forcade23 i do Hope we see some Iron brigade miniatures in the near future? But yes warlord has taken an old range and tried to make it more “universal” which should make these miniatures more useful for collectors?
Some of them have already been included in the recent boxes, but there were more. So, yes, maybe Iron Brigade is next. "Universal", well, we already saw this with the ACW epics starter box. Of course, the owner of the minis has complete freedom to declare the minis to be federal or rebel at any time. But things that are historically more specific or at least will feel more right from a historical perspective will not be changed for the better by declaring 14th Brooklyn minis a generic ACW "Zouaves Regiment" or providing an obviously confederate officer with a blue coat. Seems to me that marketing & gaming are simply more in focus than other aspects of certain importance (at least for me).
Warlord is definitely upping their resin game. Nice unboxing.
Thankyou :)
Great unboxing I do like those new ones 👍👍🤠🤠🤠
Thanks! These sculpts do look great! Im sure I’m going enjoy painting these up
Good review Matt
Thankyou Neil 👍
Nice unboxing and look at the miniatures mate,is the resin better than the first lot of miniatures they produced in resin
Thanks bud! Im not the best to ask regarding the resin as these are the first warlord resin miniatures I’ve owned. I’m not 100% sure about the durability of the material however the detail in the castings they’ve have managed to achieve is great. I know these will be a joy to paint
They look very nice indeed , i,m tempted , but how durable are they ? Do they break Easily ?
I’ve not had any breakages yet. They seem as durable as the Perrys plastics but I’m yet to really put them through their paces
Bit of a tired sounding review. ACW Zouaves were independently funded and raised units , and several did continue after 1863. Bit more expensive than Perry`s. 42 Perry figs for 22£ for 2 poses , 24 Warlord for how much?
Once I’ve painted the unit I’ll give more of a “review” on them. Yes Zouave units did serve throughout the war. £29.50 for this warlord games box set. I’m not sure I would directly compare this to Perry miniatures zouaves as they are two different uniform types. The only other miniatures I’ve seen on the market in this uniform style have been metal and are more expensive than this box set.
@@KingMATTtheSuperior But free is a great price to recommend anything. If it dosnt cost you anything and just go with the script, no wonder you sound bored.
Well I would recommend these for people who want build the 14th Brooklyn for example as it’s the cheapest way to do it and the models do look good. I do think 29.50 is steep for a box of miniatures but it’s not just the miniatures you are getting. When Perry miniatures release boxsets that are fantastic value I feel everything else just seem expensive. After collecting Perry miniatures for years I do fancy something different and going down the metal route can be costly so that’s where these new sets from warlord comes in handy.
The big issue here might be that also Perry only offers metals in ACW chasseur uniform. From this point of view this set fills a gap. Also F&G designed them to be 14th Brooklyn and there is no way to directly compare this set and Perry generic/classic Zouaves. But in general I do agree that they are not "cheap" looking at the amount of figures and the options for conversion provided by multi-part plastic miniatures. At least they a nicely designed and this time they seem to arrive without the issues of the first boxes. Regarding prices take a look at the ACW officer packs released recently by Warlord ;-)
@Forcade23 spot on. I think when trying to compare warlord games pricing to Perrys the Perrys will often win. I’ve often thought this when looking at warlord games Napoleonic ranges however as a collector who wants to expand I welcome any new releases.
They look awesome! Also love the music track in the background, very apt :D
Thankyou Thiro!
Good video yet again. Enjoy the ACW content. One question for you and fellow Europeans. I notice UK miniature manufacturers almost always include Zouave regiments and some really focus on them. As you correctly stated, they fell out of favor by mid-war and are not viewed as prominently here in 🇺🇸. Is it the correlation to European uniforms or simply they look good on the table? Just curious. Thanks again.
So my opinion is that they look good on the table. However they did play a large role in the early war and there were Zouave regiments that wore their uniforms all the way through the war. I think when collecting the ACW it’s easy to fall into the trap of just going “blue and grey” so having zouaves gives you the option to brighten up your collection.
I get it and think it is great to explore the full range of uniforms which is half the fun. One I notice few paint up for ACW but always for Napoleonic are the sharpshooters. Have you worked up and Union sharpshooters in their green uniforms?
I have some verdant sharpshooters painted up but I’m yet to show them off on the channel :)
I`d think that anybody who is in the period sometime paints up a couple of Berdan`s or Zouaves or Marines and so on. It is simply a matter of coming across their deeds in action, of course, but also a matter of adding color and doing something different. I myself being not a gamer but painting for pleasure and relaxation I go for 1:1 units and have to say that federal blue in all its shades sometimes gets boring. So why not add a battalion of Zouaves? BTW: Painting Hampton`s Legion in early war outfit was a challenge due to varying info about the uniforms of the different companies, but despite such uncertainity it was a real joy to paint. In comparison nearly any 200-400 man federal standard unit is "work" until in line and on display. Just my 2cts.
@@Forcade23well put. Having units such as the zouaves helps to make things interesting when gaming or collecting. I do find when collecting union it’s a challenge to keep things fresh hence why I’ve painted so many Zouave regiments.
Looks like you'll have a lot of fun doing these figures up. Especially the Zouaves.
So far I’ve really enjoyed these sculpts. Such crisp details make them nice to paint.
Great video mate, looking forward to getting on with my ACW 👍👍
Thankyou 👍 what do you have on the painting bench?
Messing about with 3D printing RKX bolt action and some Victrix 12mm commission work.@KingMATTtheSuperior
That is an interesting choice. A pretty specific Zouave uniform - mostly the 14th Brooklyn. You did touch on this at the start of your vid. I think this decision was so that they did not go head to head with the Perry Zouave box.
Yeah I think you’re right that they aren’t producing a kit that’s already on the market
They look good mate,nice unboxing
Thankyou bud
Love the AWI -Revolutionary War- over here. Welcome more content and in particular I could really use some painting tutorial tips for Continental troops.
Thankyou :)
I have always wanted to paint an ACW army, never played Warlords stuff. is it any good?
I haven’t played any of warlords rule sets for the period but I like their recent 28mm miniature release :)
@@KingMATTtheSuperior There models all look so good. I have a huge pile of shame that I need to paint before I get into more minitures and games systems. Recently I did paint some 15mm French-Indian Wars models from the late 1990's/2000's.
Very nice 👍
Thankyou VK!
Very cool bud! glad to see you making content again, welcome back :)
Thanks Thiro!
Good job Matt
Thanks Neil :)
New viewer and subscriber question: I tried looking but couldn’t find how you became such an enthusiast on the ACW?
Hello and welcome to the channel :) well I think it started when I started taking an interest in the black powder era but I found the napoleonics abit intimidating with all their fancy uniforms so one day on the first week of my paternity leave I went to my local game store and picked up a box set of Perry miniatures confederate infantry and I’ve been hooked ever since. I really enjoy the historical research side of the hobby and the ACW has so much going on that I just got hooked.
That is fantastic! Well, you should definitely visit the many preserved ACW battlefields we have here in the states. I was just chatting about the fact we are so lucky as I could find no other country that preserves o battlefields they way we do as national, state, and sometimes regional parks. Not perfect of course but grateful all the same. If you get to the US in the near term make sure to hit at least a few of the big ones- assuming you haven’t of course. Anyway, love the tutorials as I am new to the hobby and enjoy your content.
@user-mc4sq3fk5d I very much plan on visiting at some point :) I was speaking to Lee from battlebunkerHQ who recommend Gettysburg, Antietam and Manassas which they said they did in a week of travelling.
Lee seems like a fantastic guy and I really appreciated his positive reviews of the ACW sites he visited while he visited Historicon show a while back. Those three battlefields are great and close enough to bundle although each one could easily be 1-2 days each and Gettysburg a week. I think you will find them different than European sites in many ways. I lived in Europe for a period and visited any site I could possibly get to. None are preserved at a national level or even as parks. Some exceptions of course. Waterloo is about as close to an American site but even there it only preserves a small area and is of course private. Over here they are free. Depending on where you plan to visit ( general area) will help you decide. Lee hit those three likely because Historicon is held in a city within striking distance. If you visit Washington DC you would be within 2 hours of a ton! Of ACW sites- not just battles. Of course, the National Park Service also covers AWI and War of 1812 as well. Our system is at its best of course within the US proper but does maintain sites related to 20th century as well. All are great with good visitor centers, stores, resources, guides etc. we truly enjoy it when great folks like yourself from other countries visit our historic sites. I, for one, have returned the favor many times and very much enjoy “Redcoat History.”
Well it sounds like I will have a lot to plan for when I make the crossing over the pond haha I must admit i probably know more about the American civil war than I do my own country’s wartime history but I’m dabbling more in Napoleonic history recently
looking cool
Thankyou :)
Great work on these Matt, they will fit in nicely with your collection 😁we will catch up soon 👍
Thanks guys :) hope you’re all well? I’m looking forward to our December game :)
