Those were some good machines..

Our 1983 Hotpoint (same machine as this) lasted until 2005. These machines use half a cinder block (GE part #WH1X2056) as a counterbalance to the spin cycle. Most parts are no longer made and no longer available for these machines. The only parts available new are the belt and water inlet valve. A rare piece of American appliance lore from when GE actually owned and manufactured laundry appliances before selling out the brand to China.

Nearly everyone I knew had this dishwasher in the 1980s. It sounded like a tsunami when it was in operation, because the high force water jets knocked every bit of food off of those dishes.

Do you still have this machine? I know you did a full cycle video on in a while ago. Very enjoyable machine to listen to. Brings back a lot of memories. I didn't have this machine growing up, but the sound reminds me of our old Kenmore portable dishwasher. I can't seem to find videos of it anywhere. This is the closest thing I can find. Would love to see more from it if possible?

Hey! I love this dishwasher! If you haven't, you should try finish ultimate and finish jet dry if yours has a rinse aid dispenser.

I'd like to hear the washer on small load size with the lid shut for asmr next time.

back when washers were great such as this one we had a mountain house back in North Carolina that had a washer and dryer set from 1983 like this one it got the job done i was the only one who used it most of the time

Keeping these old GE filter flo’s up and running is a labor of love The transmission I replaced the seals the spin brake and the oil as it was leaking water mostly and the spin brake pads were very worn The clutch and motor are fine condition the pump was replaced some hoses and the top of tub gasket was replaced I anticipate she will keep chugging right along I have spare parts and will do whatever preventative maintenance to keep her going for a very long Time Machine is from the late 70s early 80s same with the dryer I love them it’s ironic these machines were cheap back in the day and do such a great job and these new machines are horrendously abysmal wash quality and reliability

That is definitely a much better dishwasher than today's dishwashers that break in a couple of years. I love the sounds of this dishwasher. My mother had a GE dishwasher that sounded exactly like this years ago when I was a little kid. That was built back in the time where GE was much better compared to today. I know this Hotpoint is made by General Electric, which was a major appliance company. Now people will wonder why to not buy any brand new appliances whether from Lowe's or Home Depot, because the new appliances break down faster.

We had a later 80s version of this that came with our house. It did the same thing this one is doing, it’s surging during the wash cycle meaning it’s underfilling. Pump noise level going up and down. I didn’t realize that until after we got rid of it, yet it still outperformed!! These were amazing dishwashers. Ours was literally orange on the interior from rust. The chrome spray arm was golden, so much so that I assumed that was supposed to be the color of the spray arm 😂 One wash cycle with iron out and it was chrome, and the interior walls were white again.

my parents had this same washer and matching dryer in "Harvest Gold" color. I like the filter thing that goes on top of the agitator I would actually put the powdered soap in it.. yeah.. I know.. weirdo.

This is awesome! I love the electronic voice. I love old electronic. I'm surprised it is still working. That's great, its probably better than the systems we have today. Quality not plastic throw away in year materials.

I have exact washer made in 1983. Still works beautifully after 41 years. Best GE Washer ever made. Not the China made crap of today.
