USWNT Soccer, LGBTQ Inclusion, and Conservative Christianity
In Episode 34 of Car Chats, we discuss our love for women's soccer and its place as a space of LGBTQ inclusion and progress in our society. Recently, the US Women's National Team faced a threat to that status when a current player (Korbin Albert) shared and liked a variety of Christian social media that was homophobic and transphobic. We react to the situation and the responses of two former USWNT players who are queer: Christen Press and Tobin Heath. Tobin is also a Christian, so we unpack her reflections and the harm of conservative Christian anti-LGBTQ sentiment.

    Where does the church stand if it cannot adhere to the teachings of the Lord. We are all entitled to free will and can choose the path we want to take. What i do not understand is, why not go where you are accepted than trying to force the church to comform to what you think is more comfortable for you. Lev 18:22, lev 20:13, rom 1:26-27, 1 cor 6:9-10 are the biblical views on same sex. However, we are all Gods creation and he loves us that is why he offers us forgivessness when we repent of and turns away from sin. If the church cannot be militant In upholding the teachings of the bible. God saves us all.

Sounds like implied false accusations to me. Their not supporting your misinterpretations of the Bible doesn’t mean your are unsafe or unwelcome in a CRC church.

    Not surprising given the context. Corbin attended Notre Dame (a well known Catholic school) and has talked about converting people to Catholism. She's also young and it's surprising how young people seem to have blinders on when it comes to their actions on social media. Hopefully Corbin has learned from her mistakes. If she does it again, she should be removed from the team.

    Thank you for your well thought out and articulated analysis of this controversy. My heart’s prayer is LGBTQIA+ Christians will remain committed to who God made them to be no matter what others say or think, but also remain in deep relationship with God. I pray that they will not be pressured by “the church” or the gay community to forsake the God who formed them and loves them, and walks beside them - just like they are. There are churches that believe that all who believe in the saving grace of Jesus can be full participants and fully serve. I go to one of those churches. Thank you for your videos. They uplift me and give me hope. PS: Love your outtakes!

What do you think are some ways that us LGBTQ Christians can reach out to church members that are struggling to love people who are different? How can we break down the stereotypes on which they justify their harmful behavior/reactions/statements? I always love flipping things around on them. Go against the preconceptions/expectations they have, and do exactly what they don't expect.

    To me it's completely mystifying why anybody with the least self-respect would want to be part of a church like that. The fact that some (not all) Christians struggle with not judging despite obvious advice from their bible "do not judge lest you be judged" etc, etc, blah, blah, blah is absolutely extraordinary to me as practicing Hindu in a legacy christian country! Furthermore and even more to the point is the fact that a great many Christian denominations following the LIBERAL CHRISTIAN TRADITION ALREADY PERFORM SAME SEX MARRIAGE AND SO IT'S PROBABLY A HELL OF A LOT EASIER FOR THOSE GAY CHRISTIANS, etc to join those Christian communities from the get go and bypass the rest and just NOT get involved in THEIR DRAMAS and THEIR STRUGGLES! Go where you're best treated! By contrast in the Vedic/Sanatana Dharma/Hindu tradition their is absolutely no prohibition against Gay relationships and USA Mandirs (Hindu Temples) perform same sex marriage ceremonies and very much encourage full acceptance of sexual minorities. Not all Mandirs in all parts of the world take the same view and so sexual minorities may well be faced with having to look elsewhere if their needs are not accommodated more locally. It will be interesting to see how Mandirs in THAILAND respond to the new Same Sex Marriage laws coming into effect there this October 2024!

    So the arc was Romy went from openly homophobic to being quietly homophobic. That's the author's understanding of what it means to accept us Alphabet Mafia people? Can't say I am surprised. The author's other book Blade Silver was equally awful. As someone who had those struggles it was insulting to be told I just needed Jesus. Love the review ladies! And love from an Ace Christian <3

    Congrats on your engagements Joey and Dana! Keep doing what you're doing from an Ace Christian! "It says it explicitly in the Bible!" If Conservative Christians actually took the tine to read their own Bible in the correct historical context they'd know that. But of course they won't. Because research and thinking is too hard for them. When read in the proper historical context, the passage against homosexuality were referring to male rape, not loving consensual homosexual relationships or any other LGBT relationships as we know them today. Thousands of animals exhibit homosexual behavior for a reason like strengthening pair bonds. It's clear that God created homosexuality because He saw it as good and that the wide array of human sexuality(providing everyone is consensual or no one is being hurt as in my case as well sex isn't on my radar.) showcases God's glory. So glad you're posting again!

    Lifeless and dead is a very Christian term! Paul speaks those words all the time we are al dead to sin. (I AM DEAD TO SIN) yet everyday I am renewed by the Spirit and so I must flea those sins and temptations and cling to Jesus the true giver of life because a life of sin is a life of death.

  • @tracy-janevis7843
    @tracy-janevis7843 11 месяцев назад

    I don't think Jackie is saying there can be absolutely no overlap in (and pardon my terminology) the lgbtq2+ community and God. God is a God of love but He is NOT a God of acceptance. I believe anger is wrong, I believe watching porn is wrong, I believe gossiping and slandering is wrong and even though I do those sins God still loves me. But that doesn't mean He wants me to gossip and slander. God loves me but He still wants me to fight those sinful desires. And often times I don't want to. So yes God can be evident in an LGBQ2+ community but that does not mean He accepts it means He loves you and he wants you to run away from it and He is going to help you. That doesn't mean we never stumble in sin and by no means is someone going to hell because they are a homosexual. I may not be homosexual but I still have sins that I live in and don't want to give up. Yet the part of God's redeeming grace is that even when I stumble God still loves me and wants to help me. It seems a harsh reality and it seems that a lot of Christians slander the LGBTQ2+ community. I do not support the community myself but every person is loved by God and while I my not accept the fact that someone is indulging in homosexuality I will not shun them because I'm no better or worse then them. They are loved by God just as much as I am and Jesus sacrifice is there for them just as much as it is for me. So to conclude I think what Jackie is saying is that by indulging in homosexuality you are in a world of sin. And truthfully we cannot serve 2 masters we will ether hate one and love the other or vice versa. But humanity (and I am no exception to this) loves to try serve sin and God and although sin seems appealing. God is the only true place of freedom. So yes God loves the people in the LGBTQ2+ community but He does not support their cause because that is not how God created man to be. Perhaps my words sound harsh but regardless of what I say or anyone believes. WE ALL SIN!! But Jesus dies for ALL. And there is only one way to salvation and that I through Christ which means as enjoyable as sin can be only true freedom is found in Jesus Christ and we must flee our sins. EVERY SIN!! B/c no one is perfect and we all deserve hell but Jesus saves all that believe in Him (John 3:16)

    Why not return to your European pagan roots? After all, you are two White women colonizing a Middle Eastern religion: Christianity. Your tribe has tried and failed to colonize the world to spread White Christianity by force and might either via empire building (Dutch East India company-capitalism) or wars (human rights-Vietnam; Iraq; Iran; Libya; Afghanisthan). Leave Christianity to the Africans, Brazilians, and Asians. Return to your pagan gods. Jesus was and is a Jew.
