When I was a kid/teenager the BEST comic book store in the ENTIRE city was at this little hole in the wall mall. I absolutely miss that mall and really think it would be thriving if still open

Our mall lost the comic shop 6 years ago. I miss it, but I sure am glad I bought everything up on their way out for a deal.

there were some pretty crazy prices on some of those books. A lot are sold in the dollar bin at most shops and some other ones I found were fairly cheap.

Wow... This episode takes me back. There were so many missed opportunities where I could've bought whole collections instead of a small lot at a time... It sounds like that lady owner was willing to sell for cheap, probably a hundred per box. Oh well, I'm sure you'll find more of these rare opportunities in the future.

i was wondering how long it would take for me to see a video where someone is bummed because they got a 9.8...here we are...the 9.9 scam they are pulling only flys if we as collectors give them value

An interesting video. The curious psychology is to me that because now 9.9s are out there in the ether you're disappointed with what six months ago were the grades we were all hoping to get on submissions. Not a criticism, just an observation and it's something that we all do. Like when we sell a book for a great profit and then three days later the value jumps. Felt great when we sold it but now, not so much and we feel badly about it for a minute. I've subscribed and look forward to more videos. Take good care.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the person doing the grading is the same person that is opening the box. It's likely that the grader never saw the post-it.

I was about to say ... for the spider-woman ... when you "can't see what's wrong" ... inspect all 4 corners ... any slight wear, minute tear etc ... keeps you out of 9.8 from what i have seen. Recently, my long-time comic dealer was showing me a box full of books that he got back from cgc ... scratching his head about the grades ... no joke ... in absolutely every case ... the only reason we could find in 9.6 books was that there was the slightest, almost imperceptible wear on at least 1 corner. When we looked at the ones that were 9.8, it was the corners that made the difference. But, you really had to be looking for it.

I don’t think the grader would see your post it because they don’t do the unboxing. Someone unboxes them first. They inventory the submission and put a barcode on each bag/board. If there is a post it they would probably be removed during this step. I think they store the books in short boxes after that step and thats when your status changes to scheduled for grading. Grader most likely will grab the book scan the barcode and grade it. Once done they put it back in the shortbox in the same bag/board with the barcode and it goes to encapsulation where the barcode gets scanned again. However if you put painters tape on your bag/board I highly doubt anyone would try and remove that :)

At least you KNOW you are in a game here. It's always going to be a subjective grade decision you are paying for and not a definitive, exact science, factual grade though.

Wondering if newer graders /most graders simply aren't allowed to give 9.9s yet. It still seems to be the luck of the draw to get the right grader on the right day with the right book that has the green light for 9.9s. Scottie Young is.a popular cover artist and CGC works hand-in-hand with him for signing events, maybe thats why they are keeping a tighter rein on his 9.9s, especially with a Wolverine related book which is the IP that is peaking right now. I feel like your psychological post-it note did serve a purpose though- it helped shift the Overton window. A year ago you may have gotten 2 9.8s and 2 9.6s on these exact same books. Or maybe even one lonely 9.8, back when that was the coveted grade.

Very interesting. So in your opinion, the note DOES have an effect on the psychological state of the grader but whether that effects them positively or negatively is unpredictable, is that right?

I agree with @dansxmencomics I think you are doing it the right way. Sometimes you just have to make plays at bigger books. Thanks for taking us along for the journey!

Wow man, very impressed with this goal. TMNT vol 1 is the GOAT, my comic collecting Genesis. I’ll never chase that 9.8 dragon, I doubt I’ll get it all graded even though I have the whole run. Edit: ok the longer I watch this the more I am overcome with jealousy. I both hate you and want to be your best friend 😂.
