7 Day Wilderness Camping Trip on an Island | Big Lake Trout and Big Water
Join us on this episode of Living High, Wild, & Free where we explore on of the most remote regions in North America during a camping and fishing trip for massive lake trout. I am joined by my friend Wil. We load up my Lund Alaskan 1875 powered by a Yamaha 90 hp outboard and on a massive lake to camp on an island. We had a surprise black bear visit at camp, luckily no one was hurt but, can't say the same about my tent. This was a wild trip with beautiful views and crazy awesome times.

In this video I go offer my new charging system in my boat. Through lots of research and trial and error I believe I have the most effective way to charge lithium batteries using the boats alternator. My system allows me to charge my 12v batteries that are connected to my 24v Garmin Force Kraken. In this video I mislabeled the Lithium Phosphate batteries as Lithium Ion. This is my mistake and I...

In this video I drive my 2024 Skandic 900 Ace pulling all my camping gear in my Yukon Expedition Sled 70 km from the access point on a 6 day solo winter camping adventure. On this trip I focused on ice fishing for lake trout and walleye. The Garmin Livescope Plus came in handy for finding spots on this very remote lake that I have not fished before. They highlight on this trip for me was filmin...

How to Make a Ice Fishing Livewell in the Backcountry
So what made you choose the lund over the starcraft freedom and if you have to do it again would you get the alaskan again?
There's a couple of key features that the starcraft was lacking like storage capacity and layout along with fuel capacity that steered me away from the starcraft. Also the starcrafts quality in materials seemed to be lower. Lastly, the resale value on starcraft was lower in comparison to the Alaskan in my area meaning the overall cost of ownership would likely be higher. In my opinion the Alaskan is hard to beat with it's quality build, luxury features and floor plan. The only thing that makes me think twice about my purchase is the overall weight of the boat. The boat is excessive for solo camping and beaching it by myself would be a chore. I don't think I'll sell the Alaskan for a long time but I may add a light weight Jon boat to my fleet in the future. I have a review video published and the link is in the description of this video
I know it’s petty and I love the content but that intro was 🥴
You're right the intro is a little too loosey goosey. I appreciate you're support and honest feedback. I'll work on tightening up the intro going forward
Thanks for posting man. Good to see some good quality Saskatchewan content out there! Really appreciate the educational sections in your videos (e.g. dragonfly nymph in this one) or stuff from your previous videos (e.g. hypothermia) and would love to see more of that. Looking forward to more videos when you have time to create and post them. 👍👍
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the educational segments. I'll be sure to include more in future videos
If you haven't yet, I would make the fish tacos another video. They are so good. And maybe a short of your tent fix! Good stuff.
Excellent video! It was like I was there without the BUGS. 🪲
How you had your boat packed up at the end would also be a great informational video. Such helpful info.
Thank you for watching and your helpful suggestions!
Good thing you had extra provisions and those handy tools. Very prepared for bears and all!
You and Will have a great comedic flair.
Came for the boat review and stayed to see the puppy
So using a tarp pretty effectively keeps out leaks? Looking to use this for winter camping in the PNW and should usually be below freezing but it would definitely see some rain
Yep I use a 15'x15' tarp and it works great in the rain. Only down side is not being able to run the wood stove with the tarp on
Great video!
Everything I was wondering about 👍
I'm glad this video helped you out!
Great, now there's going to be a rush on Dad's cookies and they'll jack up the prices!🤐
🤣
The Tacoma says you should use a sway control hitch if trailering more than 2000lbs. Since Lund say the boat, motor and trailer towing weight of your model is 2240 you should look at a sway control hitch to help with the swaying you mentioned. They are about $500 but safety first.
That's an awesome rig!
What a beautiful stove jack and the step by step instructions we easy to follow... Made one for our tent a few years ago, although made it to pass the pipe through one of the ventilation holes in the roof. Your idea is so much more convenient and versatile. My next sewing project for when we get our new tent and giving me the idea for how to add screens to the windows as well ❤️
We have a smaller version Eskimo which we use for winter camping with a stove. Eventually we will be upgrading to this model for the extra space. We also had issues with leaking seams, albeit it does not look pretty we used a silicone spray to seal the seams which helped immensely. The windows are another story hahaha... The bulkiness is something to consider, since we have to trek our gear in on pulk sleds. Appreciate your honest review ❤️
I know you posted a couple of years ago and wanted to check out how you set your stove up... Nice work! I like that you put velcro on the stove jack so you can place the stove in any window. We use a smaller version of this tent for winter camping. Looking forward to upgrading to the bigger version.
What are your thoughts on the wide ski skins. Would they help?
I have heard that the wide ski skins are great in slush and deep powder but last season the snow pack was relatively small so I never experienced any conditions where the ski skins would come in handy. This year I plan to buy ice scratches and ski skins. I may also stud the track
You’re living the life. That is an awesome sleigh.
-30😂😂😂Wtf are you doing buddy?
Awesome boat....tons of room, too. Congrats!
The peeing at the end says it all!!
Great video
🤣🤣
Been on this boat! Highly recommend. The chairs are super comfy and the ride smooth. (Be sure to watch to the end. ;))
Got an 1800 Alaskan with a 75 & yesterday back trolling into 30 km winds i was getting it hard to go slow enough. I will be looking into drift sock as JB101inc has suggested. I believe minn kota has now stopped making the vantage transom mount motor. I agree with what you say, they are a no bells & whistles boat which allow us to do most things out there pretty well, these style boats for me, provide plenty of space & fuel economy , Keep up the great videos. How did your charging system perform on this trip?
Yeah the wind sock is a great tip and I'm going to look into adding that to my set up. The charging system is awesome. I can do a more indepth video on my experience with it. It was time consuming getting it set up because I had to do some trial and error but now that it's set up the charging system is crucial for long remote trips. Using the Kraken to troll is sooo nice
@@LivingHighWildFree How do you find the mapping on your Garmin, I've heard it said their mapping isn't as comprehensive as other brands in certain areas of the country but maybe that is down to brand bias. what do you think of the Kraken foot pedal. Just asking as I was thinking of going with H'bird but was strongly considering Garmin.
I have no complaints with the mapping system with my Garmin units. The livescope doesn't give the best reading especially under speed but my down imaging unit does well. The transducers seem to be sensitive to the angle the are at and if they are off will give a bad signal so maybe that's why people aren't a fan. I don't have the foot pedal. I just use the remote which works well for me. Overall the kraken is great.
Appreciate the honest feedback on the boat! Great video. I picked up a drift sock to try and calm down the trolling. My 16’ crestliner with a 50 does the same thing. I figured with the flat bottom profile it would be great in shallow water and not great in rough weather, I guess it’s a compromise.
Thanks for watching and the hot tip! I will look into adding a drift sock to my set up as well. I am concerned about fish swimming and getting the hook/line tangled into it. Do you have much experience with that?
What phone mount do you have. I am getting ready to buy the ram mount system. Yours looks good. Maybe cheaper than ram
I use a x-grip ram mount. It works well. I use it in my boat and snowmobile and haven't had any issues with it
@@LivingHighWildFree thanks for the reply. Is it a ram brand mount in the sport track
It sure is. I mounted it to a sport track bracket and it works great!
How much torque strain is there on your arm from operating a 90hp tiller?
General operation of the boat is smooth. During calm conditions the boat handles very well and I experience very little fatigue even with a full 12+ hour day of fishing. However, in rough waters with moderate winds my arm and shoulder definitely feels the burn by the end of the day
@@LivingHighWildFree thanks. That sounds about right. I ran an 18’ Alaskan with a 50 hp Mercury tiller at a Canadian fishing camp for a week this past summer and it was definitely taxing on the arm and shoulder by the end of each day after long lake runs. Loved the boat though.
Yeah there is a slight difference in the bigger motor and boat compared to a smaller 18 with a 40 or 50 hp. A little more fatigue in moderate wind
New subscriber here! I came for the boat but subbed for the general outdoor content! Interested in your long term impressions of it. So keep posting. I'm in Northern Ontario and have the same use scenario, walleye fishing, moose, duck hunting. Currently in a 2010 Crestliner Kodiak, but I'm due for a new one. Dirt roads have destroyed my painted trailer.
Welcome to my channel and thank you for the sub! I recently filmed an impression video after spending two weeks on a remote fishing and camping trip. I'll have the video published shortly! Long story short- it's an awesome boat but there are some things I would do differently
Enjoyed the video and especially the pup/commentary. Besides it being early season, shooting through the trees in front of you was making shooting very difficult. I was watching and you really can't swing on/through the birds. Thank you, great video. Off next week on a camp, cast and blast trip to Saskatchewan, can't wait.
Glad you enjoyed one of my earlier video! Best wishes on your trip. Hope you have a blast and stay safe!
Not real 😅😅
Oh my, grateful I am camping this summer with a seasoned veteran!
Why wouldn't they hust get rid of the seed? This jas to be a joke 😂😂
They are but thanks for noticing?
GMOs have existed for thousands of years
I mean that's everything you need
"You suck at cooking" (the channel that video is from) is a comedy cooking channel. It's not supposed to be taken seriously
Talk about a super fruit 😂
3 in 1
It cut too easy precut lol still funny though
I laughed at the same as he started to laugh. 😆
YSAC straight up lies to us in his vids all the time. It's like having an older brother.
Gmos could be cool but instead we just make roundup ready crops and corn that makes its own pesticides.
😂🤣🤣🤣
Avocado was destined for guacamole
You haven’t seen it because “you suck at cooking yeah you totally suck!” Bro probably can’t even wanjangle some eggs if tried.
Oh I thought that was real
If you told this generation that brain rot was "so last year" or "old and outdated" and said that OG stuff that we had like fresh air and playgrounds and happy meals with physical toys were back and cooler would that fix our generation??
his whole account is a silly cooking account
If you're taking, you suck at cooking seriously. That's your own fault.
Main problems with GMO are patents and exploration of farmers.
Expect it soon.
It's is a silly video. That's the entire point of the guys channel 😂
