Fix a Henry Hoover which won't start by bypassing the printed circuit board (PCB) #henryhoover
How to fix a Henry vacuum cleaner that won't start. Bypassing the printed circuit board, PCB, on a Henry Hoover: You remove the PCB and wire straight to the switch!
You need to strip it down quite far, but basically:
Undo the 4 outer screws, flip back over and lift the hat off. lift out the cord rewind unit and remove the little wheels (or watch if they fall out
Pop the cover off that covers the switch and wires behind the switches and unplug everything.
Flip back over and remove the 3 inner screws, then pull the (now top, was bottom) off.
You'll now see the PCB, remove all that and its wires. You will be left with the L&N from the cord rewind, and 2 white wires from the motor.
Put the bottom/t...

Henry lives again thanks
Peter, you sir are a legend and a gentleman. Your straight-forward, simple, sensible video was exactly what this morning required. Spotting your fluffy white work robe helped bring an extra element of calm and a smile. They say these things come in threes, so I am unfortunately waiting to find out what my third thing will be this week, as yesterday my tumble dryer snapped her drive belt...
Very helpful and good angles to see wires! Cheers
Lovely video Peter. The Henry refused to start on Saturday. My wife was equal parts impressed that I could fix it, and disappointed I wasn't going to buy a new one. Well done and thanks. Tip sent.
Thanks! Glad it helped
Thanks for repair my hoover 🫡🫡🫡
Thank you so much for your kind act of appreciation. You’re the first in years :-) Hope Henry keeps running!
Got a dead Henry. And I’ve tried this just now and it’s still dead. Rechecked still dead. I’ve even replaced the on off switch. Guess that’s the end of my Henry ☹️
What did you do with the other PCB cables ?
Nothing
Just what I needed. Thank you.
I knocked Henry over and he stopped working. This fix was easy to implement and worked perfectly - I've prevented another piece of premature landfill! - many thanks for nice clear instructions.
My Henry just roared back to life! Thank you so much!
Is the purpose of the PCB just to control the 2 speeds? Are there no safety concerns for bypassing it? Am about to do this but just wanted to make sure
I’m not encouraging anyone to do it. I’m not a trained hoover engineer. Just showing what I did. Please do further research or ask a professional.
@@hesbs It's all good. I hold liability and I trust this process with the safety knowledge I have, wiring is correct but wasn't sure what the exact purpose of the PCB was. Just wondering if any of the viewers have a second opinion.
Worked like a dream. Saved myself a few quid. Many Thanks
Thanks, super helpful 😊
Thank you Peter! saved me a small fortune, well done!
excellent, thank you, my machine suddenly stopped working and i assumed it was a fuse, it wasn't, i opened it up and was surprised to find so many wires and a pcb so gave up. After seeing your fix to an identical machine i just tried it, initially i was concerned that you did not say which of the two white wires should go to which of the two switch posts, since one post is positive and one negative and i wondered if it might make the machine run in reverse and blow instead of suck if i got it the wrong way round, or even burn it out, but i took a chance and either it doesn't matter which white wire goes to which switch post or i got lucky, it sucks great. thanks.
😂😂😂😂😂 I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!!! IT ACTUALLY WORKED!!!!! It's been driving me nuts for ages. Thank you so much.
Just echoing all the other comments 🎉 thankyou so much. I've had my Henry for 16 years and only today it died. Your video has her running on full chat which saves me the hassle of pushing the button every time. Thanks again, great video 🥳🥳
Mate, let me buy you a beer. Works perfectly.
You star. PayPal peternsanze@gmail.com ;-)
Surely it should be switch him on?
Good point
Great video, really helpful 🙂
My Henry stopped working the other day - I've got it apart but the PCB on mine only has 2 wires on it, the brown and blue... any help would be greatly appreciated!
Genius! Works a charm thanks for the help 👍
Thank you Peter👏😀You made my day!
Great simple video on how to save an appliance (and cash). Revived in 10 minutes, very grateful.
Absolutely fantastic clip ……henry is now working……took me about an hour because I’m a complete beginner…..but you sir are a genius…..thank you very much
This worked for me! HENRY lives on! Cheers 👌
I bought my Henry when I was 18, I'm now 33, married, and have 2 kids. I still remember when me and my now wife moved in together and she saw my Henry for the very first time, haha! She loves a good hoover! He's been part of the family for years! Today, I thought I was going to have to say goodbye. It was a sad moment. You just saved his life and saved me over £100! Thank you.
Good to hear.
Does it work if you don’t have a hi low button, just a red light?
Never seen that
Great video. What type of screws were the ones to disassemble the whole unit?.Were they torx or security torx please?.
Years ago… don’t remember, sorry.
My hetty hoover cuts on and off, when it cuts off it stays off for 10-20mins then cuts on and repeats. My filter is very clean and i also changed the copper contacts. Is there a way to bypass the thermal cut off?
Your method fixed the issue. YOU ARE A LEGEND
I opened mine up, the chip board isn't there. Must be a newer version
Interesting. How old is it? That PCB is such a design flaw
@@hesbs I'll have to check. I got to the bit the chip should be visible. I think mine is inside a block of plastic. I put it all back together and now the vacuum is working!
Great thank you, one of the only videos on youtube which actually works
Thanks
Hi. I followed instructions and it still doesn't work. May I ask what else could be not right ?
Sorry, Patrick, I wouldn’t be able to tell. This is the only issues I discovered and fixed.
Thank you for your clear, steady and easy to follow instructions. Perfect. I wrongly presumed the on/off switch was the issue but bypassing the PCB revived Henry.
what type of motor is it??? does this trick apply for other cleaners too???
Good Video and this fixed my Henry as well. Thanks.
Thank you worked perfectly for me after following instruction 🎉
Just want to thank you SO much for making this video! I am yet another person who has revived their seemingly dead Henry, following your guidance - which was very clear and straightforward. You're a star. Jem Keen
Just followed the tutorial and it worked perfectly, highly recommended Thanks!
What is the purpose of the board then?
It controls the high/low setting. I never use low anyway
Thankyou so much. You sir are an absolute legend. Someone buy this man a pint
You’re very welcome and some kind well wishers have been doing so via PayPal ;-)
@@hesbs you deserve it. You have just saved me around 150 quid on a new henry. Top man
Top man Peter, cheers!
Thanks, another happy customer over here 🙏🏻
I did this, it worked for 2 days now it won't turn on?! Any suggestions???
Sorry. This was the only problem investigated and it worked for me so I stopped. Are all the things you reconnected still in place?
You beauty !! Worked perfect !! 🥳🥳🥳
Thank you Peter for sharing this fix. I followed exactly what you said and did and bingo Henry is working again. Cheers for that mate😊🍻👍👍👍👍👍
Not super detailed, doesn’t show all his work, however this works excellently thanks a lot
i didn't want you to watch the screws coming out :-). there's not much more to it! and i'm not a pro in anyway. just someone who use to take all his toys apart as a kid.
@@hesbs I get that mate I’m more of a lack of confidence in my own ability but I excel in following orders I must have rewound it 30 times lol, like I said tho the end product saved my mum or me £120, so cheers 👍
why bother with a work around - a replacement board is only £6 brand new ?
Because I never used the high/low function and it turns out many others didn’t either. Saved a walk or wait and £6-20
me thinking " lil red ridin in da hood " is a really good original idea lol great video though
Brilliant very straight to the point and no faffing round just got a new Sub
