I cannot resolve subdomains from my clients using this DNS server
This video saved me a bunch of headaches. Thanks!
Removed resolver not knowing I can’t install stuff
Turns out that if you just put your own stuff in the 00-installation.yaml file it will be overwritten at next reboot. thanks for the excellent guide.
Thanks Joe
2.7.3 just came out and it officially supports IPv6 now! 🎉
Hi, would I need a certificate template particularly for Domain controller and NPS server? Thanks
Thank you for the absolute necessary explanation that we have to create this new file! The official Docker document is stupid, I know they want to use Occam's Razor but it's confusing for us.
I followed these directions, and no /dev/usb* device showed up in the /dev directory.
my cx mobile app connect to my 6300 it only worked once, any suggestions?
Thanks, I have a ER7206 that doesn't have a built in DDNS server connect to it DHCP server. Any way to get a remote/cloud DNSMasq to auto update from DHCP server? Something every cheap Linksys/Netgear router can do out of the box.
I'm confused. Why do you need to put every client to the DNS server in your /etc/host file? Shouldn't dnsmasq do that for you? Wouldn't that be the point of setting this up?
Excellent and informative video Joe! 🔥🔥 Thanks for taking the time to document it.
Netplan is garbage
The server when I install it does not grab its own IP address and still thinks its offline I'm using the built in laptop one and a really fast one for all my plex and rdp
I didn't see the usb modem in screen
Thumbs up.... subscribed.
How can I access an Ubuntu hyper v server with a domain?
Can I modify the previous one?
does anyone know how to use ipv6 in Docker if you only got three single IPV6 addresses from the provider? I got a VM in Proxmox from the provider. It was no problem to include a complete ipv6 network, but single addresses I did not succeed so far.
Thanks Joe. NetPlan is an absoulte PITA when it comes to yaml syntax and indentation. gateway4 & gateway6 are both now deprecated. routes is now the preferred method of pointing Ubuntu to the outside world. Are you able to do a video using the preferred method?
Agreed, I don't like netplan at all. People seem to find this info useful though, so I'll revisit with a new video after the summer hols, I think.
Which access point are you using in this build?
Can't remember the exact one, but, at the time, I just had some Aruba 205s and 215s.
How do you setup the boot order for the VM?
I am get here after looking for internals of aws vpc. Is that similar?.

When configuring the vswitch exactly like you do on Win11 it breaks my network connection. as soon as i generate the vSwitch and apply changes my host machine loses internet access. only way to get it back is to delete vswitch1 defaultswitch does not work it has no internet access on the VM
go network adapters-> and check the ipv4 checkbox

Hi Joe! I am creating an application for my undergrad FYP and automating Hyper-V VM creation is exactly what I need so thankyou for making this video! I was going to figure out the commands myself but you saved me alot of work.
3:30 systemctl restart docker Job for docker.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status docker.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.
I had the same issue on my side. Ensure that the CIDR notation of the IPv6 subnet you have set in the json file doesn't have any typos or syntax errors.
Just discover your channel! Love the way you explain thing! BIG thank you! 👍
Thanks for saying that! 🙏
using packer with hyperv-iso builder is even better.
Thank you ^^
This is awesome! Thank you for making this video!
EXCELLENT ! Thank thee 🙂
Hi Joe, Thank you for making this video :-)
Hi Joe, thank you for making the video.
Hi Joe, all I can say is thank you very much. This was very easy to follow. I had an issue with adding my cppm 6:10 to my domain, thanks to your help its added now :-)
Thanks Graham. This series was essentially me learning in public. Glad that these videos were about to help you out.
Hi Joe, another Great video. Thank you for making it.
Hi Joe, Thank you for making these videos. There are very helpful
Big greetings. Thanks for the excellent tutorial. I have a question. How do we allow the dnsmasq to respond to devices that are not on its local network? I hope for a quick answer. Thank you a lot. :)
isn't possible. dnsmasq only works for connections in the LAN network
Thanks Joe. I do appreciate you are explaining NAT. But be honest setting up a static route doesn't fix the initail issue: Docker isn't natting ipv6. So from what I have learned so far from googling that I'd need to set up my docker container with mcvlan which would let expose the whole container to the public www. Which is a horrible solution. I think its kind of sad how bad docker is at ipv6 :/
Hi Mike, thanks for your comment. You're correct, docker isn't using NAT for IPv6 networks. You mention mcvlan, for my own setup I'm using another option, that is IPvlan, here the docker host's globally routable network is shared with the containers, and the host acts at L2 rather than as an L3 gateway. It follows that if the docker host's IPv6 address is exposed publicly, then all the containers on that network will be as well. I write about this in the final section of this blog: dev.to/joeneville_/build-a-docker-ipv6-network-dfj At the heart of this discussion is the fundamental difference in approach to network design between IPv4 and IPv6. v4 uses NAT, v6 networkers advocate, on the whole, for no NAT but global end to end communication. The approach being, rather than use NAT, v6 nodes can be globally routable on the public internet, but firewalled to prevent access to those that should have such restrictions. You'll see this in v6 home networking, my ISP provides a gateway that NATs v4 but my v6 network is exposed publicly and firewalled. If you want the v6 equivalent of RFC1918 addressing you would use ULA. Docker isn't good at v6 but the lack of v6 NAT is not docker specific, it is v6 in general.
@@null_zero Thank you for your reply! So based of your blog and the situation that your ISP provides you a /64 network. The "docker network create -d ipvlan[..]" subnet would be the /64 by the ISP, the gateway would be the ISP gateway. But whats "parent=<your-host-parent-interface>"? The public IP of my docker host? The thing I'd like to NAT my v6 traffic as my v4 is that in this way I see easier control of my firewall settings. In a Scenario where I rent a virtual server in the internet I'm often provided with a /64 network as well. But in most cases I don't have control over my vservers provider firewall which would result into leaving all ports open for my mircoservice exposed to the www. So I'd need to create a DMZ which would be more complicated. I think I'm going with a v6 docker natting router. Which I still think is a bad solution.
Great video Joe. Thank you for making it. :-)
Thanks Graham, and cheers for all the comments, I appreciate the support 🙏
Hi,i need to connect this exact switch into a terminal server open gear, this terminal server has 48 rj45 ports, i tried the console cable typec usb to rj45 but it does not work, any ideas? Thank you
Good question, I haven't installed one myself. I suggest posting that query to the aruba airheads forum for switching: community.arubanetworks.com/community-home?CommunityKey=22dc38ea-a1e1-4059-b55e-a622fedecf32
did you get any solution for this? i'll replace my old 2920/30 against 6200F and also have always small 4 port rj45 console server currently...don't want to throw them all away..:S
thanks it really helped, one issue, i am not getting IP assigned to VM created through powershell
Where do you expect to get the IP address from? Is it an external DHCP server?
You can use scree with unicode for your char problem. screen -U /dev/ttyACM0 115200
useful video,
can you make the video for wireless networks?
I really hate, not so much netplan, but yaml with a passion. Never have experienced anything this pedantic, where even indentation it critical. I really hope it can figure this out soon.
It does take some getting used to, but after a few attempts, if you save off your working examples, it just becomes a case of altering a variable here and there. I save my working examples into a github repo.
Perfect just what I needed.
Sehr hilfreiches Video, danke
