Kido was so underutilized. But it also made sense. Being able to cast a spell that just outright defeats a captain-level combatant in one go without the incantation like black coffin would've made any fight involving an actual captain who should be able to cast that spell a joke.

Learning all kido is a waste of time. One should only learn those that complement their fighting style. For example, if the shikai and bankai don't have any defensive abilities, then bakudo 81 danku is very useful. Hado 31, 88 and 91 (the cannons) are good to fill the role of long ranged attacks. And obviously lightning + iron chains is a classic, as shown by Hisagi.
