This is a test for the holdout and fbx import workflow of the upcoming embergen releases! Note that at this point there are still some issues with the edges when using holdout on an imported fbx. In this clip these were fixed in compositing.

Woah this is sweet! how did you go about doing this? is there any good sources or methods to look up? Learning Embergen right now and this would be a super fun effect to use.
how you did it you did rotomation of the sword in a 3d software then exported fbx to embergen then exported vdb from embergen and then rendered from the 3d software ?

Very good! I would just suggest a second camera shooting infrared with a IR light spotting the fire emission, so that you can sync in pos to add one “real light” source bouncing on things.

That so cool ! But i have a question : How did you track the movement of the fire on the katana, you have to recreate the movement of the katana but on a similar shape in 3D?
Yeah that's about it. I hand matched it in Maya with a simple blade shape with a couple bones.

How do you actually connect the import node's mask parameter so that this works? Do you have to connect both the geometry and mask parameters to the emitter node? I'm not seeing any examples of how to connect the nodes.
You only connect the mask pin to the emitter. The geometry pin output the entire imported mesh
@@danielvanderkaaden8502 I have an fbx file with a red vertex color on it. After importing, I can clearly see the red color on my shape. I enabled vertex color red for Mask 1. When I connect the Mask 1 pin to the Emission: Volume node's Shape pin, nothing happens. Do you know of any videos that show the nodes being connected so I can see how it's done so I can see what I'm doing wrong?

@@danielvanderkaaden8502 Okay thanks for replying. Much appreciated. I'm not sure if you know this but do animated vertex colors work in embergen? Still vertex colors come in fine but if I animate the vertex colors they only show as stills inside of embergen.
@@kickheavy8982 I don't think that works with the fbx file format, you can use the alembic (ABC) format for that

I was trying the same thing couple of weeks ago, but didnt have the same results. Either the fire is only emitting once in awhile or its just a very small fire. I have cranked most of the "make fire big" bars to max, we need tutorials :(
Noted :) 1.0 will be out soon which has a new particle system which is the key to creating this effect. I might do a breakdown of the shot explaining the setup then.

@@JNJstudios Thanks, I'll see what I can do. It will probably take some time though. This is a tutorial I did a while ago on something else ruclips.net/video/Sowv6UBsse0/видео.html I think this is a bit lengthy though, so I need to find a way to show every step and still be somewhat quick.

you want to check you refernce image again the shape and detail is way diffrent. sure you got color match but thats 1/3
