Exbury Gardens at the south western tip of Southampton Water is a manor house set in massive landscaped gardens boasting a narrow gauge steam railway. Owned by the Rothschild family and now occupied by Leopold David de Rothschild who turned out to be quite a charming guy when I bumped into him. He turned the gardens into a Charitable trust, open near all year.

Slithering up the rejuvenating South Wales Valleys, we take a trip on the delightful Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway in the midst of ongoing restoration. A more scenic and friendly line it would be hard to beat. With a Big Coal mine to visit at one end and a Public House at the other what is a better way to spend a day, with or without the family.
