    Hey, this is a great video. I’m servicing a ‘64 Riv motor (looks identical to yours), and I’m getting smoke from the high speed resistor. My manual says nothing about how to troubleshoot this. Have you ever experienced this before?

      I haven't personally experience it, but it is not unusual for the resistor to get very hot- GM expected the case around it to be a heat sink. If it isn't just burning off dust, it could be the insulation has broken down in the motor.

    Hi, I’m Donald Adams, I’m a NailHead Freak and since that’s a WildCat, I was wondering if you were aware of the Automatic Transmission Additional Power Add’r ? If you have a 300ST Super Turbine 2spd, it has a 2,800 RPM Stall Convertor w/Switch Pitch that’s activated by an electric switch mounted on Carburetor Linkage. You drive around in 1,800 RPM normal stall but 1/2 to Full Throttle, the transmission switches to 2,800 Stall Speed which is like installing 4:11 rear gears. If you have the 400 3spd transmission, that has a 3,400 Stall Speed which operates the same way as 300 ST but is more like installing 4:56 gears in the rearend. These cars Love Full Throttle/Full Power Braking Launches and keep going up to 135/140 mph “ Quickly”. Try it out & let me know how much MORE exciting racing is !!! 😎😇😎

      It depends on the goal. If someone is going for period correct and doesn't want to deal with motor mounts, transmission, and wiring, vintage is best. If someone wants performance or walk-up-to-the-parts-counter immediate parts, then modern could be a better option.

Remedied that by running tide detergent through the cooling system. Long story short this engine still runs today as this happened in the.late 80s to me.. If the stock fuel pump is working properly then the amount you cranked the engine would more than fill the carb. The problem in most cases is the automatic choke isn’t working properly. I have seen where people crank and crank forever but if the fuel going to the engine isn’t rich enough (choke on) you can be there cranking until the battery goes dead.

    • @69butternut.
      @69butternut. 9 месяцев назад

      Exactly! Sometimes people don’t understand the correct starting procedure either. I never saw if he touched the gas before that first crank either. On my 69 Impala with quadrajet, for example, you have to put foot to floor once. It closes the choke plate and helps to draw a fuel shot into the carb. That will get it started. Without doing that you can crank and crank like this demonstration. That’s leaving my car for weeks too and not 6 days. If it’s cold out then it may not keep running with one pump. The manufacturer covered that too and said to give it 3 pumps in winter.

If there are any tips or tricks, we have the Internet now, so all that is available to you. I feel for you. Only one time did I have a shop rebuild an engine in my life. They knew how important an engine it was too. They screwed up everything, and they build NASCAR engines. Seems they were funding their NASCAR by giving the shaft to all the customers. Never had any problems with engines I built myself. Yeah, sometimes it took a long time, but I was younger then and it did not matter, it was done right.
