The Dawn Chorus (jig by the late Charlie Lennon)
Another tune by the late Charlie Lennon, this time a jig called “the Dawn Chorus”. I love how melodic and unexpected his tunes go, not necessarily following cliches that most Irish tunes would take, but also sounding like they belong well in the tradition. Thanks for writing such beautiful tunes.

“Step It Out Joe” (Barndance by Charlie Lennon)
Просмотров 2424 месяца назад
New tune I learnt, a Charlie Lennon barndance called "Step it Out Joe" that's been on my to learn list for ages! I like Charlie Lennon tunes as they are a bit whimsical but sounds like they fit right in the tradition. I've been playing this whistle by my friend Cam in Seattle who runs @barter_loch and I've really been enjoying it as of late! He makes 3D printed heads that can be customized depe...

Just two young old flute geezers playing a set of reels off Padraic McGovern and Peter Carberry’s fantastic album “Forgotten Gems”. I really enjoy the second tune, fits well on the flutes! Looking forward to posting more flute duets! #irishmusic #irishflute #irishtraditionalmusic #jigsandreels #flutegeezers

Had some tunes at Hynes Irish Pub session in Vancouver over the Easter weekend. Both Chris and I are fans of this opening set from Mick O’Brien and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh’s much lauded album “Deadly Buzz” and it was a blast to play it! #irishtraditionalmusic #irishflute #uilleannpipes #irishmusic #jigsandreels #session
Glasta: Jim Coleman’s/Donald Blue/Ornette’s Trip to Belfast (reels)

A day late but Happy St Patrick’s Day! I’ve been playing with my friend’s band Glasta for the last 5 nights for various Paddy’s Day events, this one taking place at the Rec Room in Brentwood Mall (at a lounge/videogame arcade, by far the most interesting venue I’ve played in yet!) Here’s a few favourite reels that Catherine Flynn and I love to play. First one is Jim Coleman’s, a nice ripper of ...

Black Pat’s Reel in G
Просмотров 223Год назад
“Black Pat’s” reel in G, by the wonderful belated fiddler, Tommy People’s, who passed away 5 years ago today. I think it was about 7 years ago that I fell hopeless in love with this tune. I first learnt this version in G (the original is in the key of F) through a random internet recording of Kevin Crawford playing at what I presume was a workshop. Since then, I’ve found various versions by man...

Pip Murphy’s Jig on my Eb Frankenwhistle (Oak headpiece on a Generation body)
Просмотров 140Год назад
Pip Murphy’s Jig in Eb (sorry for the tiny squeek at the end there!) So! Who else is a chronic car whistler? I must admit, I’ve learnt about 60% of my tunes at a certain red light near the Amazing Brentwood! I used to keep my tweaked Cillian O’Briain whistles (D and Eb) in the car boot until the Eb developed a small crack in the headpiece. I can’t remember if it was on a Facebook or Reddit post...
Martin Wynne’s No. 4 (in Eb)
Просмотров 450Год назад
My favourite of the Martin Wynne’s tunes. No. 4 doesn’t get much love out where I am and if we’re doing the Martin Wynne session race, 1 and 2 gets played the most, No. 3 has a few stragglers, and then I’m playing a solo for this one, which confuses people because of the weird octave jumps! 😬 #irishflute #irishtraditionalmusic #irishtrad #reels #tunes #martinwynne
Brandon Carroll’s (Hornpipe)
Просмотров 169Год назад
Must be my first hornpipe l've posted! I must confess, I have a very VERY bad habit of learning new hornpipes, and it's one of my weaker areas when I'm playing music. Mostly because not a lot of them get played around these parts at sessions so the pressure to learn them is just not there. However, it's my goal this year to learn 1 hornpipe a month, and l've learnt a total of 2 1/2 so far this ...

Doctor Gilbert’s (Reel)

@christenfiddles and @irishtotw posted Doctor Gilbert’s reel last week. Not an easy tune by any measure but fun as heck to play once you get past octave jumps and the twiddly bits! I remember thinking I would never be able to play this tune on the flute, however, after watching Orlaith McAauliffe’s version on RUclips, something just clicked! #irishtrad #irishflute #irishtraditionalmusic #irisht...

It is. I believe the Chieftains played it in the movie
Wow amazing😮😮
Lovely tune! 👍
Thanks Buddy!
Thanks for posting. OMG, I love that banjo player who is he...oh wait, it's just me. 😅
Wow, super sexy guitar player! 😅 Thanks for posting buddy!
Nice :) When was this? Were the boys opening for a concert?
Back in March they were opening for Matthew Byrne. Good night in all!
Hup!! :)
😁
So nice to hear you and Chris playing together. Sounds awesome! ❤
Thanks Randy! ☺️
Also, apologies for the terrible audio quality, twas taken on my phone in a very noisy pub!
Nice playing, nice tune
Thanks Barry!
Nice set!
This is fab! Well done Melany. :)
Thanks Cillian! Your tweaked whistles are great! 😊
Is that a regular Feadog whistle or an O' Brien improved whistle?
It’s the O’Brien Improved whistle. Great little instrument!
Fabulous. Thank you!
great tune and well played from one Thairish to another!!
Hi dear, I hope you are well. I saw that your RUclips videos are very lovely . You have enough of the videos but your video is not getting views because there is some problem with your videos. Your SEO score is very poor and you need optimization for better results. If you update the videos then the views of the video will increase. If you want you can discuss with me. Thanks
Very nicely played. Thank you.
Good tune, well played
Cool, original 🔑!
Thanks buddy! Would sound cool on the fiddle, just saying! 😎
Nice playing.
Sorry! This is actually Old Joe’s Jig, NOT Pip Murphy’s!
i love that tune ! great playing !
Thanks!
nice playing !
Very cool
Lovely drop, great flavour and bounce. They should create more Frankenwhistles.
This is so good!!
Very nice 👏🍀
Thanks!
Lovely tune, cheers for the drop, hope your bad habit never stops. I love hornpipes. If I can ask, what are the other two?
Thanks! I don’t think the bad habit of not learning new hornpipes will ever end as I just learnt 5 new reels in the last 2 weeks! 😂 The other two hornpipes are the Wicklow and Byrne’s hornpipe. Though the latter has 2 variations and I’m currently having a debate with my friends on which version is better! 😏
Go Melzie! You've cornered the market on all the Martin Wynne and Josie McDermott tunes! 🤘
Thanks Randy! I’ve got a few more tunes to throw your way sometimes!
Lovely tune! Thanks for posting it. May have to pick it up myself one day. :)
Thanks!
👏👏
Lovely. Great to play along with you
Well done
Very nice! Well done!
Sounds awesome!
Thanks for posting, fun gig. Catherine sings that so beautifully. It was lovely to have gotten to play with you all.
Birmingham England? That's my home town
Yes I do play this tune and maybe I'll play it more now that I know you do as well.
Yay Mellie! Back posting tunes. Nicely played! love you buddy 😊
Thanks buddy! You play this one too right?
I wish I could also go higher notes on my flute but this seems very tough.
composed by Josie McDermott...I know he's your favorite!
Yeah, you're back at uploading tunes! Lovely playing.
Thanks! Haha yeah hope to post more this year!
Really lovely. How long have you been playing?
Hi! Thanks for the comment! I’ve been playing tin whistle for about 20ish years (14 of it seriously!) and flute for about 6 years now. Thanks for watching!
Nice one
Thanks!
Right on!!!
Lovely
Hi. Beautifully played. It looks like a lir whistle you are playing. I'm thinking of buying one would you recommend lir whistles?
Hey thanks for watching! Appreciate the comments! I’m playing a Sindt whistle here. I haven’t had any experience with Lir whistles so I can’t give you my personal opinion, but seems like people online like them.
