Rufus Thames D-18 #25

Haven’t had a whole lot of time to play these past few months but nevertheless this Thames guitar has really started to come around. It’s warmer and more mellow when I received it this last October but still loud and punchy as I ever need it to be. They’re great guitars!

Pre Guitar Co. 000-18 - Blackberry Blossom

This is a guitar that’s been continuing to impress me every time I pick it up. It’s the most open and responsive new guitar I’ve probably ever played. This is my fifth PW and definitely the best of them, right out of the box this thing was open sounding with a big loose low end and snappy highs. For a short scale guitar it has tons of power and the notes seem to just jump out of it, the Adi top...

Just got this one today and I have to say it is an absolute monster of a guitar! I’ve had two brand new Model Ds and I can say that this one is more open and powerful right out of the box than they were. The guitar here was about 10 minutes out of the box with the same strings it shipped with. It’s crazy how Pre War pulls this off
Collings D1AVN Varnish - Tennessee Waltz

I almost sold this guitar in a fit of stupidity but I’m glad to say it’s still here and not going anywhere. This the best 18 style guitar I’ve owned and if anyone is wondering whether the varnish makes a difference- the answer is yes.
Collings CJ45AT- Demo

Quick demo of this guitar, currently for sale. This is a fantastic playing and sounding guitar, for a short scale slope shoulder it really has some punch to it. The bass is heavier than you’d expect with this model but still tight and balanced, I would think it will loosen up with more playing time and maybe be a little more forward but it’s not lacking for anything as it is. It’s a great rhyth...

Excellent video! I’m in the market for a nicer dread. I’d be interested in hearing your update after 3 years! Thanks.
Thank you! I'm using the speed gear to slow this down and learn it from you. It is challenging for me (late beginner player trying to transition to more intermediate) and I'm really loving this melody! I just got tickets to see Andrew Marlin in Denver - excited!
Hey Mr. Martin! I love your picking style. All of your guitars have such a lovely tone- do you do your own set up? What kind of strings do you use ? Thanks for posting, I really enjoy your music.
Thanks so much. I do not do my own set up, I’ve been lucky that most of the guitars I’ve had have come with great setups, and I’m not really too picky as long as the action has a little relief and the nut slots aren’t too low. I’ve had a few guitars that have come set up more for finger style and didn’t really work with my style of playing. I used to use Dadarrio NBs but now I just stick with EJ17s.
Really good.
What year is that one? Sounds great
Very cool👏👏
Great Cover!
Very nice job, great tempo, smooth notes!!!
Collings!!!
COLLINS IS THE ONE
If I bought this guitar I’d be in poor valley 😂
Hi Adam,You play the vintage style guitar with such full, mellow, sweet notes.May I ask what picks you use and what is the 000-18's distress level? Thank you so much!
Wonderful!
Sounds nice and clear.
Great playing. Guitar sounds good.
How did you find the tone difference between the D1A and this one?
Collings
How about comparison to pre-war you have? Adam
That Martin D28 Authentic 1937 sounds pretty great! Do they use Rio Rosewood for back and sides?
2014 model would be Madagascar rosewood .
Yesir
That was beautiful man, your attack is so smooth
Im using this as the excuse I need to get a prewar BRW
That’s a beautiful sounding D-18. Fine picking too.
Feel like it's been awhile! Watchhouse writes songs that my heart would sing if it could!!!!
Hey Adam, You know of any pre war that could be bought right now? I’m in the market for one, but don’t know where to look, any pointers or direction you could provide? Or would you just suggest sending in a deposit and waiting ? Thanks
Im realky late to the party. Do you by chance know of anyone who is selling a Collings DS1 or Collings Ds2h? 12 fret dreads is my thing. Thank you!
Really beautiful playing, Sir!
Would love to this and the D1AV compared
all sound amazing I'm kinda partial to the pre=war deeper sound.
Great playing and great guitar. What picks do you use? I love your videos
Thanks! I use either a Bluechip TAD 50-1R or a shell pick
@@adambrown7112 thanks! You have great technique and pick attack
Is it sold? I am not on Facebook and I didn’t see it on the Martin forum
Sounds great man! Is that the MT2 or MT2-V (varnish)?
Thanks a lot. This is an MT2, it’s kind of a rarer one with a vintage Cremona burst and flowerpot headstock inlay.
That's great! I'm in the market for my first upgrade and I"m looking seriously at the MT2 and MT2 Varnish. Looks like you get a lot more mando for the $ with the A styles... Happy pick'n and thanks! @@adambrown7112
Great tone brother
Thanks man, this guitar makes it easy 🙂
Do it again!
Shhhwweeeet picking man!
Lawd
That run starting at 24 seconds 🤯
What a huge sounding 000.. Do you still own it?
These videos are so money for learning these fiddle tunes. Clear, concise and dialed. Thanks my friend!
Whenever I watch a comparison, I always look to see where the pick is relative to the sound hole. Too far back, more 'bite', too far up, much softer. Yours was very consistent so it makes a better comparison. The Collings sounds brighter and that's what I experienced when I test drove one years ago. The Martin sounded softer which is fine- what matters is what happens when the volume is turned up. Does the Collings get fatter, and the Martin get brighter? Perhaps they both meet in the middle when under stress. Those Texas boys have certainly carved-out a niche in a crowded market with the Collings. I'd pick either one and grin a lot. Nice video, great playing.
Nice! You missed the brief B minor chord in the B part tho 😊😄
Pre-War was like a combination of the Martin with more clarity similar to the Collings.
Hey currently own an OM28 authentic 1931. Would this be a good guitar to have as contrast?
i can tell there is something missing on the colling, if this guys sells the the martin, you will miss the martin tone...if you sell the collings you will not miss it, kind of like an electric guitar tone if that sense ...that tone kind of irritates after a while...happened to me...jmtc
There was nothing special about that Martin, underwhelming in most metrics to be honest. That particular collings though is one of the best guitars I’ve ever played
@@adambrown7112 what are the martins you played you think are great?
mahogany vs rosewood again ...nice guitars...no so much for the pre-war
Pre war has that richness I would want …. All three are so different and have individual characteristics. Interesting vid
The D1AT wins the comparison with my ears. Really balanced, full and clear with great separation. PW sounded nice too.
I’ll be getting mine around January, I went with the natural finish, 30’s neck and level 2 distressing. Very stoked. This guitar sounds incredible.
I almost pulled the trigger on a new one of these a couple weeks ago.... but that price...dagnabit I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Maybe I will sell my Martin 1937 D-28 Authentic to raise some $$.
Awesome
Pre war!
