SUVs aren’t as good as what they used to be. A 2001 Ford Escape could be bought for around $20,000 and could run for around 200,000 Miles before it bites the rust. A new 2024 Ford Escape will probably 100% be a Pavement Princess and will be a Soccer Mom’s dream car. Back then, SUVs had tires on the rear hatch and actually drove on rough terrain. They have also plagued many brands. Buick, Chevrolet, Dodge, Lincoln and Ford have decided to kill off the Regal, Malibu, Dart, Continental and Focus respectively. Not to mention BMW, Audi, Lotus, Mercedes, Ford (Mustang) and Genesis have started to make Electric Crossovers, which is a car guys worst nightmare.

My grandpa used to have four Nissan frontier pickup trucks he smashed one in to a Toyota Camry three were red one was gray he sold two of the red ones and the gray one he still has the red one which is the only one he has the motor in that car is broken so it doesn't work it could tourn over but it doesn't work 🔥🛻 🚓 🚚🛻🛵 no the motor berst in to flemes i put the fire emoji with the pickup truck so it looks like the motor blew up.😅

I love the sentiment that this vehicle wasn't made for "going to the opera." It was a bold bet to make such an SUV in the 2000's. Its sad to see that the market trended towards "opera" SUV's over the following 20 years. In my view, this was the last generation of "serious" small trucks ever made. And I don't just mean the image. This was literally the last full-box-frame "true" 4WD truck with a manual transfer case and mechanical locking hubs.

These are "moderate overlap" tests. Small overlap is where only 25% of the vehicle width contacts the barrier.

I had a 2001 that I got rid of in 2023. It had 275k on it. It still ran fine. Great truck, except for changing that #6 spark plug. But it was just time for a change, so I bought a newer Xterra which I have plans on driving for at least another decade.
