Donpei Part 1 - The Acquisition and the Plunder
Very impressive gameplay and cool to see that far into the game! Truly looks insane and a lot tougher in those later levels. Yeah I agree on it being one of the stronger ripoff contenders to Centipede. Thanks as always for doing these videos!
Hey wow THIS is what this thing sounds like. Very cool. In MAME I thought the artwork was so cool, but disappointed it sounded just like Space Invaders. I might have to track a kit down myself
If I can track a kit down, you can track one down too :) This one is the UK Zenitone version of the kit, but there were also kits sold in the U.S. as well.
@ Maybe. Where’s you find yours? I’m looking for a The Glob kit as well. Bought a fully intact cab from TNT a few years ago, but it’s missing the CPO and it bothers me.
@@wanghotangho5803 The Glob is awesome. I know someone with a Glob kit, but he will not sell it for anything haha. I think a Glob would look great next to War of the Bugs. I bought my IR kit from Phil Murray (philmurr on KLOV), and got the Taito Invaders upright cab from someone in Wisconsin. The kit was a pretty straightforward installation. Daughterboard plugs into the CPU board, new ROMs, new art, and it's good to go.
@@thedillestweed2644 well, I’d be happy with a scan of the CPO. The other art could be in better shape, but the CPO is missing altogether. BUT that’s basically The Glob daughterboard as well. I think I may add a Pi to it though for Super Glob since I prefer the sounds and it’s a bit easier. The vanilla Glob daughterboard is insanely tough. The Glob and War of the Bugs would be great side by side or any other run down laundromat corner arcade game. Y’know the kinda games you’d only find in bizarre places NOT the arcade
I've made a list of weird titles you'd only find in a backwater pizza joint/laundromat awhile back. Space Bugger Devil Fish War of the Bugs Enigma II UniWarS That's a perfect combination. I'll try to get you a good scan of a CPO. His was NOS. I'm sure I could vectorize it
Galaxian is the sound of an arcade for me. So anything on Galaxian hardware is good by me.
Is “Compost” your creation?
The "company logo" is, but the original game had Compost Ltd in the original ROM data. I decided to have a little fun with it. forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/mbmame-galaxian-hardware-wriggly-beasties-war-of-the-bugs-boot.525613/
Is there a junction at the function?
The scorpion in this sucks, very cheap too. Space Train (an upgrade to War of the Bugs), added some wrinkles to it (like adding enemies (the space train [reskined caterpillar]) coming out the sides in later rounds, but there's a catch to it, the feature is buggy (like barely finished) & all enemies despawn/disappear when a certain amount of shots were fired).
Dump on mame final burns Neo
"Steraranger" as it's called is already in MAME. It's the same game as Moon Cresta. If you're looking for a better version of Moon Cresta, Samyra's Star Fighter is also available.
It's (Steraranger/Steller Ranger) already in MAME sense version 135u1 (15 years ago, on Nov 19, 2009).
This cabinet tastes very Nichibutsu, white side, Toei monitor, Joysticks, buttons
Same type of wood too. Lauan exterior with white laminate for the sides, MDF interior. I wonder if this type of wood was sold in bulk.
Love it, it's so cool. The jankness of the bezel art adds to the charm.
The mushrooms are a little joinky for sure, but everything else turned out way better than I expected, so I give it a big pass in my book. For a first time attempt at reverse-painting bezel art, I even surprised myself.. and I'm super critical of my work lol.
what happened to your Polybius recreation videos cant find them anywhere? I remember also playing it at one point
I just wanna do a better game on period correct hardware. Looking back, I'm not satisfied with the old work.
@thedillestweed2644 I'll agree that it wasn't the best recreation but I did enjoy it
It's like Centipede on Galaxian hardware
Yep, it's a Lucas game!
Once again impressed with your finds and lots of awesome things in the works! Yes a Pisces arcade could be nice in that cabinet. Space Carrier looks brutal!
very cool Dillweed!😎
Undumped ROMs! Taiwan's Artic (ATW) released as Space Cruiser but its the same game, likely based on 10-in-1 games "Ten Spot".
The Space Carrier ROMs were extracted from Ten Spot, it's the same game from that (the ROM is hacked too to say Stellar Ranger).
I extracted the ROMs from my Ten Spot PCB, haha. They honestly work on any standard Galaxian board- even the same amount program data.
Hoei has a lot of great stuff (Space Battle, Jump Bug, & Mayday!!), very interesting too (then they changed their name to Coreland Tech. in 1982, then bought by Bandai in 1989 & renamed to Banpresto). Wish this was a Final Ranger, Super Cross, or Money Wars though. (Speaking of Super Cross, wondering if Sanritsu Denki co-developed Super Cross with Hoei, because Super Cross 2 is said to be developed by Coreland but the board has the Sanritsu pintout (same pinout as Bank Panic, Mermaid, & Rougien), & very likely co-developed by Sanritsu too). The enemies wrapping through the top of the screen in Space Carrier sucks most of the time (it unpredictable too, & bullsh*t), what was Artic thinking.
I definitely agree, if this was a Final Ranger or similar, that would be incredible. That fact this exists at all gives me hope that those games are still out there.
@@thedillestweed2644 Indeed! Same with the other two games I mention. Hopefully all of them would be saved (& not hoarded away by some jacka*s).
@@thedillestweed2644 Indeed! Also wish that Final Ranger is found & saved one day, same with the other two game mention (Money Wars & Super Cross) (& not hoarded away by some lowlife). (Sorry for the late reply, RUclips blacklist the reply for some reason, the original reply had a cruse word (me talking negatively on hoarders).
I swear you and I share the same taste in this stuff. I can just smell the bar smoke nicotine from your collection. Got a Universal Cosmic Alien coming to me in a few days. Super pumped!
Glad I'm not the only one anymore who shares a love for the oddballs haha. There are so many great games that go overlooked. Cosmic Alien is totally awesome. I've been wanting some Universal stuff, but none of it is common in my area, unless it's a bootleg/converted Lady Bug or Mr. Do... lol.
Cheap conversion, had potential too. Also, Armenia (company that made War of the Bugs) really likes this game, got reworked a lot, turned into Space Train & then Galactic Convoy on the 4in1 Galaxian conversion thingy. The hit value counter still doesn't make sense (scoring is all over the place).
It looks kinda familiar, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Probably some obscure limited release.
Apparently all of the Compost versions of the game were found in Ohio/Michigan. I imagine the company that released it was around that area.
Yep that’s a winner and I played one at Brian Lee’s way back in 2018. The three of us that visited enjoyed the game. You did some nice mod and bezel work there!
Ed Logg is going to have kittens when he sees this.

Ozma Wars is awesome man. However I'm more of an Astro Fighter man.
Astro Fighter is good times.
Always loved that game, used to be on a travelling fair came to my town. I even enjoyed the 2600 version. Awesome pickup!
Very cool to see you got yours up and running as I think you might be the only person to have restored one of those! For a 79’ game not too shabby and quite cool! Star Trek was still all the hype and makes sense for this to be made at the time!
Very nice game, too bad it wasn't released. Also the 'warp factor' (accelerate) at the end was 16.8. Also X.5 on the credit screen is set to 2 coins 1 game.
Not a shabby one from 1980 but looks extremely tough and as usual you make it look easy. And yeah why the abuse from that woman? You deserve better and a better car!😂
Fujiko Mine was that way.
did u has a Micon Kit 1 gameplay video?
I don't own a Micon 1 unfortunately. It's basically the same as Micon II, except it's without the ship.
In the early eighties, I used to see games like this at carnivals. There would be these glorified open air trailers that had like five to ten cabarets like this - bootleg galaxian, pacman, and Crazy Kong. I think I saw Lupin at one of these. I could be wrong. I was 12. It was a long time ago.
My father played Lupin back in 1982 at Andy's in Columbus IN. It's crazy that some of these machines made their rounds here in the States. Many Lupins typically stayed in Europe and Japan.
Have you ever watched the Anime? It's been around forever. Cliff Hanger also stars Lupin.
I've seen some of the early stuff from the 70s. It's pretty solid, I enjoyed it.
Congrats on the awesome score!
Hey Mr weed can you give us a tour of all your games ?😎
@@jumpingeneral oh man, all of 'em? Maybe soon lol. That'll take some time
@@thedillestweed2644 a walkthrough 👍
Do ittt
Neat game, also fairly hard, especially when you try to avoid Inspector Zenigata (one with the nightstick) & those guard dogs. The Pleiads 7910e doorbell is somewhat funny (feels out of place funny, gives it a different atmosphere [kind-of]).
8:20 What more could a man ask for from a vidya game?
I love these games that are just YeS We cAn do ColOr
I used to love this game when it first came out. I remember this but forgot the name of it. Thanks for sharing!
It's such a great game. One of my favorites
Some really different sounds in this game I've never heard before on a Nichibutsu CC before
maybe you're thiknking of the Japanese ROM?
I'm so glad I found your channel from Overtime Arcade's mention in his last vid. Thanks for the education and laugh 🤣🤣
Incredibly rare find! I don’t recall seeing that one on the floor when we were at Arcade Expo back in 2018. So it probably was hidden somewhere in some smelly horse stall. 😂
I went to an auction that had dozens of arcade and pinball machines. Problem was they were all stored in a barn that was filled with rats. Not mice, RATS. All of the pinball machines had been accessed by the rats and were filled playfield to backglass with rats feces, urine, shells from seed foods and nesting materials. The arcade games weren't nearly as bad although they were hit and miss. The only good thing about it was that none of the games sold for more than $100! Most did not work, a few did like a cabaret Wizard of Wor that I've always wanted. Battlezone had been nested in and didn't work. I just parted out all of the pinball machines as the urine had damaged most of the wood to the point where it wasn't worth repairing, but all of the pcb boards, scoreboards, most of the plastics etc. were well worth what I paid for the machines. I filled a 24 foot uhaul with them for less than $1000 so I was more than happy. Sometimes the mess can get the prices down low, it can be a great bargaining chip.
Yeah you got a good point, that's how I usually buy these. Not pissed out or anything, but nonworking projects. I don't have the capital to spend on premium quality games, but I'm willing to understand what makes them tick and take the steps to get them functional again. Without that knowledge, I wouldn't be close to where I am today.
Wow wow man youre pretty good Cant wait to see you beat this record too
Also on smell. I've had pretty good luck using a Ozone cleaner. Just put it inside the cabinet and back it and run it.
I love Tornado Baseball. Really enjoyed the one i had but ended up selling it on because i rarely had someone to play player 2 with. Not sure which later version started having a single player option. Mine was plwyood. Art on both of them are great. I think you did on this one.
Apparently Patrick Bateman is a big fan of this one! Nice gameplay skills and as usual you make it look so easy. Which we know that one bloody tough for a 79 game.
This game really is extremely difficult. I just played it enough to know the quirks haha. The World Record is only 13,010 points. If I push myself, I could probably make it 30k. Might attempt that.
@@thedillestweed2644 you should and your shot precision is pretty on point!
