Russian military has always been a joke. Russian society has always been rife with corruption. This began with the czar placing his aristocrat relatives and friends in positions of power. Most of the time the appointees were not qualified. This includes the military. Most generals were incompetent. Unfortunately the soldiers suffered under the incompetent leadership. The soldiers were mostly illiterate peasants. This problem was demonstrated by the failure of the soldiers to run artillery radios.......any technical aspect of the war. The corruption continued thru ww2......... and to this day.....
