Your leftover cashmere made me think of Tayler Earl's "Baggy Hat" that she made about a year ago and talked about on her podcast. I think it could be a nice use for the leftover yarn.
When spreading out your stitches like colorwork, you're essentially leaving enough yarn for the stitch you're skipping. So if you're doing (k, slip, k), you want to ensure that you're using enough yarn for 3 sts, even though you're only actually knitting 2 sts. It's almost as if you've dropped a stitch! I recommend looking up "tensioning colorwork" and it'll be much clearer if you're a visual learner!
That pink looks great on you. Loved seeing your cute little pooch in the background 😊
This pink color on you is brilliant, i fell in love! Regarding short rows, I usually replace them with wrap&turn method, I am not sure but I think its also called Japanese short rows. Love them, way less visible! I still dont know if any pattern can be replaced with them, but until now I havent had any issues. Regarding the vintage pattern, I would create and grade a pattern that is very similar, but maybe I would not 100% copy the stitch count, to avoid potential copyright issues. Looking forward to seeing you knit that vintage pattern 🥰
I love your Kirby top and the color looks stunning on you! 🙂I personally think the designer's decreases are intentional, looking at her pictures, it looks like they form a second border and I really like that look. Thanks a lot for your tips on the neckline though, I'll keep that in mind when I cast mine on, very helpful!
About the central double decrees - I saw it on a few patterns of Susanne Muller for example in Sonya Shirt which I made last year and in Robin sweater which I'm making now. I kind of like it, it looks like a fun detail under the arm and down to the bottom ribbing.
I recently found a new yarn by mode of Rowan called Rowan alpaca haze…. It’s well priced and has similarities to the cashmere yarn I think. Beautiful makes and great color choices… I am a summer also and sometimes it’s hard to know if something is cool or atleast neutral online.. so appreciate your sharing.
Hear me out - cashmere beret such as beret no 1 by mftk 👩🏻🎨
The K2T and SSK is reverse in continental knitting . She is probably a different style knitter. Much quicker and more efficient
Do you mean eastern knitting? Continental knitting mounts the stitches exactly the same as English the only difference is which hand you’re using to hold the working yarn.
I loved your podcast! Thank you 🥰 I always like to get inspiration of other knitters and you surly inspired me! I also have the brushed alpaca in the same blue colour waiting to be knit into a cumulus blouse! Now I’ve seen your finished object I’m looking forward to start knitting it. Yours is so pretty!😍 But I’m a fairly monogamous knitter and I just started on my Whitmoor cardigan so I told myself I can start the Cumulus blouse when the whitmoor is almost finished. Happy knitting ❤
Love the cashmere tee 😍 You should have enough yarn left for a cowl or a hat. Or a head band.
I also wonder about the ethics of reworked vintage patterns. Would they be considered public domain? when I eventually release patterns I plan to donate some profits to a local equine retirement facility. It’s be cool if ravelry could do that automatically. Does anyone know if that’s a thing?
Spreading out your stitches as in colorwork just means constantly sliding them as far apart on the needle as possible whilst you knit them. In colorwork, the extra distance between the stitches of the color on your needle translates to extra length in the float of the other color that runs behind them. So it means your floats don’t end up too short resulting in bunching. I have never used this as a way to gain a looser gauge, so can’t say if it would result in extra give at the neckline. But maybe it would work? Also, I wonder if going up a needle size, just for the double knitting part, would do the trick?
This Cumulus commentary is sooo helpful. I've been wanting to make one with Drops brushed alpaca, and I think I have a similar size and shape to you, so this is making me want to cast on immediately!
I love Cleome Smiths designs! I have many of her patterns n highly recommend her.
Did you end up liking the knitting for olive putty? I had trouble discerning the undertones from the pictures too but I just ordered haze and really hope it's cool toned 😅
@@sewathome no it was like yellow 🥲 but the merino shade “limestone” is what putty used to be before they changed it!
@truesummerknits oh no! Being able to buy online is such a blessing and a curse in one 😩
The fit!!!!! Omg
that gas station story was AWKWARD, so glad you have people to show your finished objects though lol, even if they don't think before they speak 😄
Love your interesting patterns! Thanks for finding them for us!😊
Agree with them all but wouldn't ice blue be cool summer/winter or light summer? Haven't seen it IRL so going off the name here.
Luxe!!!
This is such a beautiful piece! I'd love to know more details about it (hopefully in your next podcast?). Love, Jessica
Did you use any soap or just water? I have a cashmere sweater waiting to be blocked but not sure what to use. Your sweater turned out beautifully!💕
@@jadebond1235 I used a little bit Eucalan wool wash! I didn’t rinse it out or anything, just let it soak and then pressed out all the water, rolled it in a towel for a bit and then set it out to dry :) & thank you!
@ thank you for the tips! 💕💕
Beautiful!! I love it. Do you think it'd work well with a plant based yarn?
I think so! Maybe bamboo or silk would work if you meet gauge bc this definitely needs the drape! A silk/merino blend would be even better
@truesummerknits Thanks! I'm not too worried about gauge because I don't think I've made a single project on gauge 😅 I always swatch and do the math 😀
I went on a trip with my mom to paris and she bought this phenomenally soft jumper. Which it turned out was raccoon. I had never experienced such soft fabric before. Guys, it's insane. I would love to get my hands on racoon yarn but where do you get it? Is it ethical? Where are all the raccoons???
I found some on Etsy that comes in these big 1000g cones and I’m considering experimenting 👀 it ships from Ukraine and I have no idea how they are getting the hair from the raccoons lol
Harper is fab! Please knit this so we will know if the cable pattern drives you crazy 😂 If not, I might knit it.
I think leknits does these "inclusive" sizes because adding a pattern repeat gives a much bigger size. If one size is XL-3XL it means that the sweater will have more positive ease on an XL-size person than on a 3XL-size person.
That makes sense! I’ve definitely not graded patterns with such complex designs so I can see how that works!
Thank you for the Manon jacket ideas. I knitted a similar jacket with Drops alpaca bouclé paired with the Drops alpaca (fine fingering). I did not achieve the sturdy jacket type fabric I wanted. Now I am knitting the same jacket with a more rustic bouclé (by Lankava). This will also result in a fuzzy but not sturdy fabric. You inspired me to try the Manon pattern.
I really want to see your previous jackets!! If you end up knitting the manon jacket you should dm me on insta so I can see :)
Haven’t had a natural bust measurement since 2012 😅
Absolutely loved this video, Maddie! Also, this sweater suits you so so so well! I’m super excited to see your podcast
Thank you wiktoria ❤️❤️
Lovely patterns! The Kirby top is stunning and very tempting, I might make that soon 😍
You should!! I finished mine and it’s probably my favorite thing ive ever made!!
@@truesummerknits Can't wait to see it on your podcast!! 🙂 Curious about the yarn you chose.
Another wonderfully presented podcast thx
Thank you!! 🤍
I love these videos! I appreciate that you highlight lesser known designers, bring insights into construction and style, and you have such a great eye for unique designs- I find something for my “to knit” list every time! Thanks you!
So glad you like these!! Thank you 🤍🤍
@ and real glad you’re back!
absolutely love your selection of patterns <3 I am Chinese and here we knit sometimes with raccoon yarn. It is extra fluffy after being wet blocked, like 10x of a brushed cashmere, and very warm while being lightweight, and itch-free. I have a few knits in 100% raccoon / 70% raccoon 30% wool. I wish I could share pictures of raccoon sweaters that I have got... I'd recommend trying it if possible! My yarn I bought it in China but it was 2/20 (2 ply 10m per gram) so suitable for machine knitting; to make hand knits I had to combine 2-3 strands. The price point was around 12 US dollars per 50 grams, but as I said it was lightweight and fluffy, a size S sweater would require 200-250 grams only.
I would loveee to try some, I was trying to look it up but I’m not sure if I can find it. You make it sound so luxurious!!
What a great set of patterns, thank you! BTW the color of your sweater looks fanastic on you 😊
I clicked in because the thumbnail got me and I was thinking the same!
Thank you!! ❤❤
I like the style of patterns you choose, structured clean, modern, it's very similar to things I aspire to knit Really like the Manon Jacket, first time seeing it Yes, thought immediately about the Chanel jacket too 😅 Moreca Knits has patterns that all look so sophisticated! Have you seen the Dolly Cardigan? I don't remember the designer name It's very cute and similar style but was released before
@@logikgirl12 thank you! I’m so obsessed with the man on jacket but it’s such a special piece I feel like I’d really have to plan for what yarn I would use. Also I had not seen that pattern! I love boucle yarn but seems so stressful to knit with hahaha
Wait a minute... you got bangs! 💇🏻♀️ They suit you! ✨👌🏾
@@logikgirl12 haha thank you!!! I literally haven’t posted in a month I think I got them right after I posted last, annoying to style sometimes but I plan on keeping them!!
Thank you for this informative video. It is so refreshing to discover beautiful patterns by lesser known but wonderfully talented designers.
@@Sandy-lq9xe I’m glad you liked it, I always try to show off lesser known designers if I can! 🤍
This color is stunning on you! 💙
@@kaitlyntrugman6015 thank you, I was so excited to knit with this color when I got it! It’s drops alpaca silk in pacific blue!
I really appreciate all the effort you put into finding out how to pronounce things. 🙂 I wish more people would do that
Have you started the Tulip loop sweater yet? I just started and the set up row is wrong for the back: - looks like the middle sts written as 31 should be 36 to work. now I don't know if this will affect the short rows - trying to contact the other loop designers but they are only on instagram and no response yet. Love the pattern too!!
@@crystalblue38883 I started and has issues with the back short rows, the cables were messed up and I wasn’t sure why so I frogged it and decided to work on something else for now. I wonder if that’s why, I assumed I’d done something wrong!!
@@truesummerknits I was trying to contact loops thru instagram but they have an email address on bottom of project page in Ravelry and they said they would get back to me!! So if you want to knit it stay posted.
Yes I got communication with the Tulip loop folks and I was the one who was wrong!! Looked over the pattern again and it works as written. Have started it and just about to do my first cable. Its such a cute pattern you should give it a try again!!
Super review of these patterns, my first time on you channel and I enjoyed it.. As an 'old' person, who was knitting when the vintage patterns you mention were first published, in my experience these patterns weren't size inclusive. You usually had a choice of small, medium or large and that was it.
So funny, I am knitting with that Hobbii alpaca silk as we speak. Knitting the Lily frill sweater, holding it double with drops kid silk. Absolutely love the yarn and this combination too. I chose voor 17 for the alpaca silk and a very light blue for the mohair. Curious to see the end result of all your current wips ❤
Ooo if you want something all over cabled, I’m working on the Grayling vneck from Magdalena Parker (Knitonomy) right now and I def recommend it! It’s so addicting to knit
Loving your design, congrats! I should knit one for summer! And the video about gift knits will be interesting to watch as well :)
Definitely know what you mean about becoming less of a monogamous knitter. I feel like I have been casting a lot more things on recently and having multiple projects going at once keeps me from getting bored. I like the Daliet blouse for the vintage knits, though the Antoinette blouse does look more unique (and more of a challenge?). As a budget yarn enthusiast myself, would love to hear more options, maybe outside of the Drops range (if you can find any)? Loving all the purple knits 💜
I looove the Clair Blouse! It would look super cute in the kfo purple unicorn! Also, the first, cabled blouse would be adorable! 💗 For the affordable yarn series, i think it would be really useful to know how the yarn wears, ie does it pill, is it itchy, does it shed a lot etc
I'm working on Knitting for Olive's baby bear bonnet as a gift for my friends baby girl 😊 I'd love to see the budget yarn review including Drops yarn because everyone keeps using them but they have very mixed reviews. I feel like your reviews are very in depth, you talk a lot about fiber content and how the fabric behaves and I love that. Most reviews are "it's a nice yarn, it's soft, 100% worth it" or "hate the yarn, it's peeling, never again" so I'm always hesitant to knit a whole garment just to find out that I hate it after it's finished 😢
thank you for watching!! let me know what you’re working on while you watch :) would also love to hear your thoughts on the budget yarn reviews and the vintage blouses! 🤍🤍🤍 happy knitting everyone!
Demure? 😂 Maybe chic and classy are better descriptions to these looks.
