The Dyslexic Geak
Великобритания
Добавлен 5 апр 2007
Hello and welcome to my Lego Channel. I am a huge AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego) and have been collecting and building sets for nearly a decade after rediscovering Lego in my late 20's. I collect and build just about anything that looks interesting but mainly collect Harry Potter, Ideas/Icons, Creator Expert and Star Wars, but generally only the Original Trilogy themed sets
As someone who is severally Dyslexic, I find the process of following Lego instructions very helpful as it really helps focus my brain for long periods of time but even as an adult, most sets take me quite a long time as I have to concentrate, otherwise I make frustrating mistakes.
My content will mainly focus on Lego news, previews and reviews. When it comes to reviews, these will be my honest thoughts and opinions as the Lego sets will be brought more often than not with my own hard earned money.

My LEGO Black Friday 2024 Wishlist
This is an awesome helmet.
This looks beautiful, I will definitely buy this✨❤️👍💯
I don't know if this set will get a sale. I'm not sure if the Lego great wave of starry night set will get a sale.
Unfortunately I won't be purchasing this set due to the price £170 . I do really like Vincent van Gogh 's sunflowers painting I just think that the set is overpriced for what it is.
$199 way too much lol
Art sets are always quite a high price to start with but get nice discounts shortly after release, makes them much more attractive to buy
I just can’t stop laughing at the Mona Lisa …hahahahaha 😂
Just hope Lego don't try and recreate The Scream painting, not sure it will end well😂
Looks great. I don’t know if I will get it. Maybe if on a really big discount I would go for it. Not because it’s a bad set but more because it just isn’t something I’ve been wanting after. Looks great though
If I was ever to get it I will certainly need a big discount, problem is there are so many other sets I want more I may end up having to pass on it, unless my wife wants it of course😂
I think it is beautiful too but I would also wait until a sale. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yeah that's how I feel with the Art sets, they always get big discounts and in many cases not that long after a set comes out
One of my favorite paintings in the world hangs at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, van Gogh‘s “Iris‘s“. I doubt it will ever get an adaptation in Lego form, but as a fan of both the impressionist and post impressionistic movements, this is a day one purchase for me. And I will definitely be trying to pick up an extra one of those tiles with van Gogh signature to display next to my van Gogh minifig.
I have not heard of that painting so googled it, blimey absolutely amazing but would certainly be challenging to recreate in Lego I would have thought. I expect this set will be popular, makes the Starry Night set even more essential for the Van Gogh minifigure
Will you be buying this Lego Art set in March?
This is a top tier helmet! I couldnt imagine them doing it any better. Im glad they leaned a little more into grey and not the white. This really has me hopeful for more Empire Helmets, even an updated stormtrooper helmet maybe as shock trooper red or shadow trooper black. Yeah I agree its not a day one purchase but I have a feeling this one will be sold out quite a few times in its early shelf life phase so I know I wont be missing any chances haha. This will definitelyt be a next year purchase for me
Yeah the grey isn't exactly 100% accurate but I really do prefer it in grey, looks a nice colour combo with the bits of red. Lego must be running out of Star Wars sets to do helmets for now lol
@TheDyslexicGeak well I don't think they're running out of ideas, lol. It just looks like they are bouncing around their adult themes. Notice we don't have any diorama so far this year, and no rumors seem to point to any for the rest of it. I wouldn't be surprised if midiscale ships get a break next year or the year after.
@ this is the most sensible thing anyone's said about this set yet 👏
😍
Looks nice doesn't it🙂
Why is it grey ???
I don't know maybe to differentiate it from storm/clone troopers but it works for me, certainly waiting for a sale though
I like it. Shame about the stickers. I think it will look good with the ucs at-at. Luke’s helmet looks great next to the ucs x-wing
I was thinking of pairing it with my UCS AT-AT also. I think they are printed pieces, would be crap if they are stickers.
@ quite a few stickers sadly. Some printed pieces
Are you excited for this latest Lego set in the Helmet series?
Legend. love the content.
👍
Grate video John, keep up the good work brother.
Thank you my friend🙂
Lego has, not Lego have.
This reminds me of the shops of the world GWP's but upscaled. Those were a big hit so maybe Lego thought if they created more detailed shops, they would sell. The price and piece count are good for what you get so I guess we'll see if customers take the bait. Base on the promotional images they are a decent size as well and appear to come with all printed pieces. I also notice they have a similar base style as the Star Wars diorama's and the garden of the world sets which makes me assume there will be a collection of these over the years, which automatically will draw in collectors
Yeah can definitely see the Houses/Shops of the world in this set but they were great as promos, not sure this works in a retail set and charging $79.99/£69.99. Think Lego have been a little ambitious with the price here. Thankfully it means I can spend what I was thinking of spending on this set on something else🙂
@TheDyslexicGeak I do agree it's a little pricey. But what isn't nowadays? lol. Also, between printed pieces and a great amount of detail. I think I'm starting to understand Lego's logic a bit more nowadays. Lots of smaller pieces that provide better detail as compared to the sets of the past
This is the most terrible set ever by lego. Whoever design this should be ashamed😢, he/she makes lego look like a cheap knock off from China. 😠This set looks like a funwhole set. cheap looking
Hard to blame the designer. They have limitations to what they can do. Lego is the one that sets the building program.
Oh its not the worst design by any means lol, certainly disappointing but not sure its entirely the designers fault. Lego would likely have given the brief for a design they wanted, with a piece count and budget to work with.
Another lazy Lego set. Most of the bricks go into the base and the wall in the back. I hope the golden striping on the doors and windows aren’t stickers because there will be a lot of air bubbles under the transparant part of it and would look like a total mess then. And the lack of a decent interior makes it a pass for me. A missed chance. It’s indeed time for some competition from other brick companies like Funwhole. With today’s Lego prices (often overpriced) more and more collectors will change to cheaper ways. Those fake Lego sets will probably never keep their value but when you buy them for yourself and you’re not planning to sell those sets after a few years I think it’s worth thinking about it. There are some great sets and for the modular buildings it’s good that light is included.
Im very much hoping they are printed pieces as it means they will possibly come to Pick a Brick at some point. I hate putting stickers on windows/clear pieces, always end up with finger prints on them. Other brick companies are certainly upping their game, Funwhole look very impressive and way cheaper
Well we can't like them all. A big pass for me.
Exactly, there are so many great sets coming in 2025, don't need every single set to be a must buy🙂
It will be interesting to see designers modularise this but will of course add a lot more cost. An intriguing idea and wonder if there will be more sets like this in the future.
I just wish it had been larger and minifigure scale. Will love to know what Lego would do that represents a British restaurant if they ever do it😂
I was on the fence about the siege encampment set but after watching a review have totally changed my mind on it. I’m totally all in on it now as I’m looking at building a medieval world.
Yeah I'm thinking the same, seen a few reviews of it, does look a lot more substantial than my initial impressions of it were
I was looking forward to seeing this, but now it’s a hard pass for me. Very disappointing could have been awesome now it’s just a big let down.
I really was expecting/hoping for way more than what has been delivered, oh well money I can spend on other sets🙂
Its a pass for me. It doesnt help it that the Tudor Corner was announced a month before which is drop dead gorgeous🤷🏼♂️
Oh the Tudor Corner modular is very impressive, putting the finishing touches to mine at the moment. In a way the French Café has done me a favour by saving me money I would have spent on it had it been decent😂
@ ha yeah this is what i’m finding with my other hobbies, ie if you can find a reason NOT to buy something its a good day! 😆
It looks like an underwhelming gwp
Yeah that's exactly what it feels like, not cheap either
Really terrible this set.
Very much feels Lego are like "oh you liked the shops/houses of the world GWP promos did you, well here is a larger version but with a big price" very disappointing design choice
This would never make my lego wish list lol
Its certainly way down on mine so I'm likely never to get that far down my own list lol
Not for me this one. Zero interest
Yeah not sure this is going to appeal to many people, far to minimalist
Too narrow, must be Malfoy's favorite restaurant
Haha, very good😂
Excellent. I had a good laugh 😂😂
For the price, I hope the set has printed pieces. I may buy it if the doors and windows are printed but would wait for a sale on it.
If the doors and windows are indeed printed that would be great, could also mean they find their way into Pick a Brick. I sadly expect they will be stickers but I hope I'm wrong
based on the promotionals it look like all printed pieces. They definitely seem to be targeted this for adults, same as the Gardens of the Worlds sets that also have printed pieces and bases.
@TheDyslexicGeak I have been zooming in on the video on the lego website and those doors look printed, if they are that could justify the price. I will be cutting down on just buying sets this year as everything is so expensive... life stuff I'm talking about now not lego. I got this years modular so will be very savvy going forward with my purchases.
@foreverfornever1124 Those doors look printed will have to wait and see. The cafe does look nice definitely a moc for me.
Looks quaint, but screams for more. If I do buy, then may get 2 sets and make it into a moc.
Will be interesting to see what the moc community do with this set
Would of been better if it was like a cafe like the friends one with out side and inside as well
Yes exactly, this is kind of what I was hoping for when I saw the listing a few weeks back, what a wasted opportunity
I'm not even sure I can see a hundred pieces there, let alone a thousand 😆
Yeah its very hard to see isn't it, I expect the base takes up a lot of the piece count
I’ve started buying Funwhole Modular’s they’re cheaper, well made, printed pieces no stickers, fantastic brick quality, and they all come with lights. Just been on there website today and they have up to 40% off, so I bought there theatre, which looks awesome. The last few Modular’s I’ve bought from Lego have been over priced, brick quality hasn’t been very good, stickers rather than printed pieces, the builds not been as strong as the early sets (Jazz club, for example had one stud holding half of one story up, and that’s not the only set I’ve experienced that), no lights even though the cost is so high), not much innovation considering company’s like Funwhole or Pantasy. Get video as always.
I wish they'd ship to the UK!
I keep seeing people talk about Funwhole sets more and more and they do look such good value, especially the modular buildings, the fact they include lighting puts Lego to shame really. I love Lego as a company but they do seem to be getting much more complacent over the past few years, especially with regards to the prices of sets, not to mention the over use of stickers in lieu of printed pieces and getting worse. Some good competition is what is required to make Lego up their game
It looks great but the price is a bit high. Great video. 🎉
Thank you, yeah some of Legos pricing lately seems way off, not really seeing much of a set here for the money
Are you looking forward to this Lego set or a little underwhelmed by it?
I will never waste money in cheap looking design lego set. They should cancel this
Too many pieces in the base, take that away and its like a bonus sized GWP. I hope it goes on good discount for the bricks since those ones for the pavers are pricey.
@ Yeah the base certainly looks like where a lot of the piece count is. I expect in a couple of months it will be available at a much lower price.
@ only value to me is parts so kits have to get pretty cheap or re really good small sets which I think are best for parting out in more multiples than a few big sets to make mocs. So I would want two of these at like super good sale and GWP stack.... waiting for the next castle... still have to get the renegade.... so its just fun to watch the trends.
I was bought this as a christmas present, looks exactly like our family cat meow! I found the face area a bit tricky to follow instructions but i love that the mouth can open and close and great that the head can turn
Yeah the head/face was a little awkward for me too, some of the instructions not all that clear. I think its a fab set, so much personality to it🙂
I cant seem to find the overgrown church from your vid.
If you are referring to the castle over my right shoulder its the Bricklink Series 1Mountain Fortress🙂
@@TheDyslexicGeak thanks for replying, it was the lost city i was referring to. Its quite nice. As a side note; I have mountain fortress still unboxed, no space and no time to build lol.
@@kapiteinlulhaas7612 Ahh haha I see what you mean now, i misunderstood you lol. When do get round to building yours, it should certainly make you smile, great build and rather solid🙂
series 27 minifigures is all I’m getting in February.
I have all of them now but cannot find the wolfpack one anywhere, very hard to get hold of
I picked this up but haven't built it yet so don't know if there's paper bags or not yet. I ended up buying the Jazz Club on discount as I like the box picture of it next to this one.
The Jazz Club is a nice modular, probably not the best modular for the past few years but still looks really good when placed next to the other modulars
I'm not ready to pay for Series 3 yet. I hope they're delayed as we had a big storm that blew my fence over so now I've got a repair bill. I ordered 4 X sets so might have to cancel one or two 🥺
Yeah they do come round out of nowhere it seems. That sucks about your fence being damaged. One thing I have noticed with these recent Bricklink sets is they are not selling for much more than the original price on eBay etc so if you miss out, can always pick up in the future
A small wave but some nice ones, though. My girl is interested in the Easter tree and definitely the new Botanical. Lego knocked it out of the park with that one. My gf is also a big Twilight fan, too. From what I can tell, it's still has a big thriving fan base, like any big name books series like Harry Potter and LotR. It'll be interesting to see how popular the set is during its shelf life. Itll probably sell as well as the Star Trek Enterprise since it's also another IP that has never gotten sets before
I'm quite grateful for a slow couple of months for Lego releases as from April on its going to be crazy good. Will be interesting to see how quick the Twilight set goes on sale at other retailers. I expect it will sell just fine, just disappointed many people from what I have been reading
@TheDyslexicGeak same here! March is looking more exciting and of course May will be big for me as a huge SW fan, like every year lol. I think my gf said the Cullen house color isn't as accurate so it may effect some people
Nothing really for me this month. Not a big problem tbh. Best thing I’ve seen is that Zelda is now at Amazon! Hopefully there’s some discount on it sometime in the future
I'm grateful for slow start to 2025, lets me build up my cash reserves for the spring onwards😂 Ahh didn't realise amazon have the Zelda set but they are as bad as Smyths for not having sale that often. Best bet will be when the Nintendo Store has it on sale again
@@TheDyslexicGeak agree. This could be an expensive year with the rumoured Death Star. There’s a few retiring sets I also have my eyes on like the bugle. Agree about Amazon however I occasionally get vouchers for them so I may end up getting it from there. Zelda is one of my most wanted sets.
Why are you showing all this on the US version of the Lego website? Just wondering.
I mainly use the US version of the Lego store as that's where the majority of my audience is based🙂
What Lego sets are you thinking about buying in February?
Not sure it’s one I will get but it looks great
Its a very unique set, its amazing how far Lego designs have come for animals, not an easy thing to translate into Lego
The original is something I would buy, but Lego pulled a Lego and they Legoed the hell out of it and ruined it.
Yeah the Ideas sets can be hit and miss as to how faithful to the concept design they end up being. If Lego could not do this design even remotely close, maybe should pick something else. I feel this satisfies no one. For fans its too expensive for what it is and if your not a fan, its not a great looking set for £190
Honestly the packaging and unboxing of this is trash vs say the Lamborghini and Bugatti. The packaging alone for Lego sets like that are truly impressive. Each has their own compartment for each section. This is just a box with 300 bags. So so so underwhelming.
Yeah I don't know why Lego don't do the luxury style packaging with most of the big ticket sets like they do with the Technic ones. The McLaren is such a nice box, gives such premium product vibes
@TheDyslexicGeak the Lamborghini was the same, gorgeous, premium, tough build! As well as the Bugatti.
