Thank you for this version! Wonderful staging and actually attempting to use the original libretto. Great job!
very poor performance, the orchestra plays with a terribly vile, disgusting sound. It's disgusting to listen
Beautiful performance. Thank you!
Conductor is Ian Watson 🙏
Weegraham.... Purcell s’est inspiré des "Trembleurs d’Isis" dans l’opéra ISIS de Jean-Baptiste Lully, compositeur préféré de Louis XIV
Henry Purcell é um dos meus preferidos🤩
Incredible!
Thats a stunner...❤
Wonderful, meditative fantazia played with great unity of ensemble.
The tactus feels right and like how the sections are separated by momentary pause.
Don't these people have something better to do?
Yes, fabulous! I don't understand why they are pushed over against the wall!? Would this just be the 1st piece of a concert including singers? (onstage seated?_ dancers?
Fine rendition of the Cold Song... Great performance... This may be the world's hardest song to sing... I compare all versions to that of Klaus Nomi who's effort I enjoy most.
What a beautiful young lady, what a glorious voice and what a perfect accompaniment from the chitarrone!
Beautiful ❤❤❤
Браво!
What a wonderful performance. Such a great voice. Thank you for sharing 🎶
Good but I prefer countertenor voice for this. Gerard Lesne performs this piece brilliantly
Mixing's a little off, vocal levels are low
I saw this performance in the other location :)
Honestly, this is just sensational. Sublime art in every way. :-)
Fabulous Purcel is amazinig here.l. :-) Wonderful performance all round. :-) I love seeing it in context. And isn't Cupid exquisite? :-)
Very interesting musically- Eccles is a brilliant composer! - and received fitting respect!BUT if we’re going for HIP musically, why not go for it on the staging side? There are too many operas where (e.g.) Handle’s score is treated with respect, but where trendy modern political/ cultural assumptions are imported by selfish (committed?)producers … not as bad as that here, but I felt I was being imprisoned in modern conventions, and was hoping for some 17th century modes to add REAL newness to our age! All the same, Thanks very much!
Hello- and thank you for commenting! We certainly have the talent to do so - Boston is filled with experts in this way. But to take a production like this, put on by a very small non-profit, to that stage means taking a $35k production (fair wages for musicians, dancers and admin) to a $70k ++ budget. If you are interested in supporting us, please do let us know!! It takes more funding to do such stagings.
Thank you very very much.
The performance is very terrible and awful
The orchestra is playing is very awful
Performance is very terrible
Amazing acting, music, costume, and effort, I love this so much
Performance is very awful.
Music is good by performance is very very terrible
I really love these voices.
First concert with paid tickets is credited to John Banister.
Perfection!💙💙💙💙💙
Superbe !
3. Hark! hark! each Tree its silence breaks, The Box and Fir to talk begin! This in the sprightly Violin That in the Flute distinctly speaks! 'Twas Sympathy their list'ning Brethren drew, When to the Thracian Lyre with leafy Wings they flew.
this is my favourite aria. purcell died so young but he left a wonderful legacy for us
Quite agree, the saying the good die young is so often true but we should be grateful for what they wrote and that it had survived for 3 centuries plus.
A little more joyous than I was expecting lol
Boston is very fortunate, as am I, to see and hear these precious moments of voices and of instruments.
I was in the audience. It was one of those rare magical moments.
This is NOT by Purcell! It starts with Matthew Locke's "Tempest" music then goes on to other stuff. The original notes to the performance state: "Long attributed to Henry Purcell, but more aptly described as"Purcell & Friends," this adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest features the works of several composers: Pelham Humfrey, John Weldon, Matthew Locke, John Banister, Giovanni Battista Draghi, Pietro Reggio and Jean- Baptiste Lully among others. This work was written and re-written for the stage in at least three recognizable versions. Led by Ian Watson from the harpsichord, the Henry Purcell Society of Boston will re-create the work yet again- using music from the 1674 versions and adding music curated by historian James Winn to showcase our phenomenal musicians." (Sorry I could not find more detail about what's really in this.)
Actually Henry Purcell is great genius of England.
Excellent!
Definitely one of the best version I ever heard. Congrats !
The best version available on YT, I think. A Cold Genius must be a baryton or a bass, and sing slowly.
This is a beautiful performance, the best I've found musically. Really impressed with this ensemble and the quality of the recording. Unfortunately it is ruined visually by the poor stage direction which works against rather than with the music.
Of course, still thanking Benjamin Britten for immortalising the Rondeau
This music and performances are breathtaking! It’s wonderful to see the chorus beaming at the soloists at 12:00
Excellent. Well done! Beautiful interpretation!
Yuk. In orchestral into flute sounded like it was wandering in another field. Tepid Tenor's variations made me wonder whose music he was singing. Beautiful song butchered. Audience responded with tepid applause.
This tune works well with the hymn Love divine, all loves excelling
