Hammer fist in karate used in mma. @davidskaratetips.7306
This is a perfect example how the hammer fist is used in mma. Lots of great techniques in kata that fighters are beginning to use. This type of hammer fist requires you to hold the head of your opponent to gain control and to act as counter pressure while delivering a devastating blow to the opponent’s face or temple. This is a very effective technique when up close and personal with your opponent.

Karate test early 2000’s part 2 @davidskaratetips.7306

After several hours of working out and wearing us down, it’s time to spar. I was definitely in survival mode. No energy at all. It was tough but I got through it. It was also a lot of fun. Speaking of fun, I was watching kids perform their katas and a student from a different class was explaining to me that kata is worthless. I took in what he said and decided to explore kata bunkai. In the beg...

This was my first black belt test in the early 2000’s. This was in Prince George’s County Maryland . This was a sports karate Shotokan school. I learned a lot from this school. This was the school that got me into bunkai. I was sitting next to someone who said kata was stupid. His comments led me to begin my research into kata bunkai. I had no idea this Journey would lead me down a 20 year adve...

This is my first karate school. This was in Lafayette la. I have grown so much since then. But this is where it all started. The style was Keichu Do. AKA, Cajun karate. My instructor left the school and got involved with Juko-Kai. A combat Ki organization. Loved it. Sparred a lot! Lots of judo with kicks and punches. It was called an open style where my instructor added what he thought was good...
YAKUSOKU KUMITE! Different styles, different ways! @davidskaratetips.7306

As we examine different styles of karate, we see many different ways of preparing for pre-arranged KUMITE ,also known as YAKUSOKU. I find it interesting all the different preparatory positions that different styles employ. This video examines many different ways that styles prepare for pre-arranged KUMITE.
Three techniques one purpose! @davidskaratetips.7306

Osae uke part 2! @davidskaratetips.7306
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.5 месяцев назад
In this video you can see Osae Uke being used in karate katas and in Kung fu. It’s clear it is a very common technique but gets overlooked on how truly effective it is. So, when you see a closed hand or open hand tuck under the elbow or arm, chances are it’s Osae uke. This is a very effective technique. How many other styles use this technique? Dig around and find out. But by all means, have fun!

When you remove the formal aspects of a technique and return it to it’s practical function, you will be able to apply it in a real situation. Practice the form for it is an art but understand It’s function so you are able to apply it at any time.
Jitte rising arm block. Four styles one technique. @davidskaratetips.7306

Some techniques have lost its original purpose in favor of aesthetics and tradition. But if we look deep enough we can find it’s original meaning and purpose somewhere in other styles being practiced today. This technique is good example of that. If we progress forward in time, we see Okinawans changed it a bit then move further in time we see Shotokan changed it even more. As we move even furt...

Taekwondo vs Kali. knife hand wind up or double hand block?

Taekwondo vs Kali. knife hand wind up or double hand block?
I think the Shotokan one has a different application, as you would never stay in a stance like that to evade a Mae-Geri. I personally think it is "just" a throw, as it comes from the Yama-Zuki position and does a full 90° turn, and then you finish with a backfist.
Wrong footage to show this application. Watch the variant done by Akihito Yagi, it is closer to what you're trying to show as similar to that Thai Boxing cover.
It's just so sad that some instructors here show the application the wrong way. For example, at 0:16, the instructor punches to the chin, which would destroy his own hand. He needs to aim for the neck here, or if he's really good, aim for the area between the chin and the mouth with the big knuckles.
There are definitely secrets in kata. It was reported by John Teramoto that many masters would teach you the wrong version on purpose if you persist on learning it but they didn't like you. And many others would only teach behind closed doors to select students. The technique shown here (Yama-Gamaé) looks like it has another application than the technique used in Thai boxing, because you slide sideways into it. I am not sure about the real application though. May be it's a move to block Jodan Bo attacks with Tonfas as you can see here? ruclips.net/video/IOLL5jz_K0Y/видео.html We should always remember that many Katas were executed with weapons before and don't transfer well into the new form of Karaté, that is "Empty hand". Kara used to mean "Chinese" before, so Kobudo is probably closer to the original Karaté than modern japanese Karaté.
Cool! That's almost exactly what I was thinking about manji uke oyo. This is some kind of throw where you lift the leg of the opponent! I saw similar throws in tai chi and kung fu applications, There is also a similar technique demonstrated by no one else than Gishin Funakoshi in his book Karate Justsu. See this image A: iainabernethy.co.uk/sites/default/files/file_attach/images/Yaridama-Throw_0415.jpg
That's not the Bunkai for Shuto-Uké, but for movements like Kaké-Uké!
Train until you fight like a robot, because Arnold knows, the T-800 is better than liquid metal.
You guys have an interesting program and also a very cool karate training program in Richmond as well I just wish they had stayed in my karate program so I can become somebody stronger and more determined and so I can protect myself against those crazy people out there and this crazy screwed up world 🥋🇯🇵👊😉👍🇯🇵🥋
In wu shu anzhan
That's a Gedan barai sweep
Useless for punching, just a feint almost, you can see a huge lack of power. Must have other interpretation.
Nothing similar!
Oh My God! Shut the Dojo down, NOW!
Embarrassing right! this is what has happened over the years, Karate-Do has been watered down... hate to say it but mostly by American Karate
😅😆🤣😂🤣
Interesting how others had ideas about combining other styles back before ufc and pride became a thing. Then again, be like water was nothing new even then
Good idea! I missed "my" ryuha Matsubayashi-Ryu which has completely different kamae, etc. than the others...,maybe Wado-Ryu comes a little bit close, that is because O Sensei Nagamine and O Sensei Otsuka received lessons for kumite by Choki Motobu...
Love to hear other people’s opinions views and thoughts on subjects such as this. Thanks for sharing.
Why do a gedanbari before reverse punch This is terrible If we are to rediscover the old ways where karate was a brutal effective art of self defense We must drop this ridiculous rubbish Nobody in a million years is going to attack us with a karate reverse punch They are going to attack with a swinging haymaker or such like By teaching the unrealistic rubbish in this video you are doing your students a massive disservice and setting them up for massive failure should they need to call upon karate for self defense Check out Patrick McCarthy and koryu uchinadi Lets train properly Thankyou 👍
I love hearing other people’s opinions. Thank you for commenting on this subject. I put together this video to show how many different ways people engage in YAKUSOKU KUMITE. I’m know I did not cover all the styles out there. There are far too many to list. This video would be well over an hour. I just hope you got something out of it. Thank you for sharing!
Pock sau and parry are not the same both are opened arm blocks but former is more potent version. It is difference between flicker Jab and power jab or getting cut by house cat or lion
Shotokan style combines scooping block and shaking off technique. Shaking off technique is called "Furisute" in Japanese.
Oh my gosh. I never thought the one who'd do this in boxing is Emanuel Augustus. A boxer who gave Floyd Mayweather one of the toughest fights of his life.
Neither of them convinces me. A more real application could be sought.
It's waki otoshi
Man is that stretching it or what ?!?
You can adjust it
MUCHA LABAS .......
For example, I see a lot of similarity between Shotokan karate and Shaolin temple kung fu in northern China. long, deep postures, for example.
Yes, because many kata in Shotokan come from Shorin-Ryu. "Shorin" was the way "Shaolin" was pronounced in Okinawa. But the Naihanchi / Tekki Katas come from Shorei-Ryu, not Shorin-Ryu. Examples of Shorin-Ryu kata are Passai (Bassai), Chinto (Gankaku) and Jitte.
So both Kung Fu and Karate are similar to each other.
Karate comes from kung fu.
@@berkaysen2246if you watch my other videos you can see kata movements shared in many other different styles. Not just Kung fu.
@@davidskaratetips.7306 All martial arts have some similarities but some Karate movements are very similar to Kung-fu. Actually much more than some. As far as I know, Kara-te means empty hand, born in Okinawa and Okinawa is an island between exactly Japan and China. I heard once some fishermen comes to Okinawa from China. And they bring Kung-Fu techniques. But in time it evolved and changed and turned into another martial art. Now Karate is totally different but origin of it probably the kung-fu. Bruce Lee also said Kung-Fu ancestor of Karate and Jiu-Jitsu. I am sure that there’re also karate masters know the history. I personally learned little shotokan Karate in the past. My sensei was 4.th Dan and he also said something about this. So I believe in this. But of course everyone‘s opinion. Maybe you can search from history. Both karate and kung-fu great martial arts. But in my opinion if Karate is classic physics, Kung-Fu is Quantum 😅😅👍🏻
@@berkaysen2246 in my opinion, karate kata holds the key to all martial arts from the past. You can see this in the cat stance which is used in Muay Thai to pac sau which is used I. Kung fu, to distance and timing from Nakayama Hakudo. It is a beautiful blend martial arts all located in kata. You can see it being played out on repeat with MMA. Once you understand kata, you can see it everywhere
The original meaning of Karaté is "Chinese Hand", so Karaté comes 100% from Kung-Fu. It was changed later to "Empty Hand" in Japan for pure political reasons. Same thing happened in Korea: When Karaté was introduced there, they translated it 1:1 from the japanese, and so it was called Tang Soo Do (Way of the Chinese Hand). Later, it was changed to "Taekwondo" for purely political reasons. So basically both Taekwondo and Japanese Karaté originate in Kung-Fu.
Isn't that from Roblox?
You didn't show how kickboxers got knocked out midstep trying this a lunge punch.
Just found out about your channel. Underrated stuff.
The karate oi zuki examples are mostly basic versions and not what would be used in actual combat. The karate oi zuki competition example is not oi zuki. And the one with the little kid is not your common karate oi zuki at all.
This is great. Simple yet effective!
What is the purpose of lifting the leg at the same time that you left your face without protection? I like karate but this type of Dachi is useless
👍👍👍❤️
Perfect.
MMA isn't a Martial arts. 😊 it's a sports league. Lmao
MMA is just as much a martial art as it's also more of a philosophy. UFC is the sport league. MMA is the practise of mixing your martial arts and has taken on a style of its own, imo.
@@PhinTheShoto in order to mix a martial arts you'd have to study one. MMA is the art of mimicking a attack someone saw on RUclips
No matter what name one chooses to give it, it is the same technique. Great video.
interesting
Cool! Its interesting to see how some arts have the front hand lower than the face, whereas in my association we practice it at face level.
Osu! Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
good video
Thanks!
I read somewhere that the stomp kick was the original way that was later changed to a side kick.
Dear Master David, David, Many thanks for the principle of hip vibration of which we were instructed as hip rotation. Nonetheless, the use and purpose is the same. What I am missing is the Bunkai aspect of Sanchin dachi, its readiness to move first in four and for the advanced in eight directions!, an information of added value to both levels of students. Paul, 687, retired insturctor of Goju-ryu Karate.
P r o m o s m 💯
Kung fu practicing sweeping each other on hardwood floors scare me.
Body completely exposed to knees and kicks
Similar to a Ridgehand?
I am more about following principles of kata rather well Han the technique the kata provides. In this kata technique, it’s more about counter pressure. Hold the head then deliver your strike. You can certainly add a ridge hand. I see kata as more of a blueprint. Examples are, kata has throws, they give you a few throws but as the student, you should learn those throws but understand that kata is telling there are throws in karate. Learn more throws. Learn all you can about throws. Kata teaches elbows, learn all you can about elbow techniques. This is how I read kata. Hope this helps.
So very true.
Very interesting observation.
Henderson knocked the guy out with a side elbow, that shows you the power he truly has.
Very interesting and observant
