Time marches on. It's only governments that stand still. Townships like Longreach survive and sometimes prosper but they cannot develop alone. It's only Australians, including those from overseas, that have the foresight and capacity to develop our country. Politicians, bless their heart, are only seat warmers. Your community can make our country work.

Our story looks at the history of the old viaduct and the present Hornibrook bridge (Houghton Highway) and follows the demolition through to construction and completion of the final structure. The convoy was lost. Bless their souls. John Westwood, son of Yarra crew, CPO CHW (Bill) W...

Kalbar was sold, or given, to an Aboriginal Organization who stripped the Starion & left it. They took the money & split. It's good to see the locals are doing something with it. Well done fellars.

The bridge girders on the eastern side were severely attacked by termites, Coptotermes acinaciformis. The girders on the western side of the bridge had very little to no termite infestations. I was a member of a team from QLD Forest Services that undertook an inspection of the bridge timbers after the closure of the bridge and before its dismantling.

Only one I know of that took up ranching is the navajo, Apache, and hopi tribes . But it is slowly dying because of drought and prices of live cattle ain't enough to cover the cost of ranching. I am part of the navajo tribe had at one time had up 100 head of cattle, and now down to only 40 cattle . Have to haul water for cattle every day. Newer generations have left the reservation for easy money and higher paying jobs.

I have great memories of crossing the old bridge on my way to my job at the High School. I was an American recruited by the Labor Government of the time. I travelled it often, and even enjoyed the bumpy ride. It opened the way to Brisbane, a place to later become my home as I took a job at Kelvin Grove College of Advanced Education. I was a Lecturer there and enjoyed my time there. I lived in Brisbane for two years and had the opportunity to travel the newer bridge in 1978 and drive by my place at Bay Boats. All great memories. My students are now retired teachers and, I still am in contact with a few of them. They have visited me near Silicon Valley, California, and their kids have taken trips here later as well. I have a sweet spot in my heart for Redcliffe, and Australia, overall.

They should not be allowed to have sexist gender based organisations like this. It just reinforces gender segregation and stereotypes. They should be unisex community sheds. Get over gender. It's got to a stage where I can't reach out in regards to my mental health, breaking social isolation or spiritual connection without people trying to push me into a gender based group, such as a men's shed. I'm tired of hearing about them. I'm tired of gender. I will not be dealing with any community organisation, church or business that actively supports this or any other men's shed.
