CSX 1973 Chessie System Unit Leads L217 (Midnight Chase)
I got word that L217-17 has CSX 1973 Chessie System Unit leading solo from Richmond Acca Yard to Newport News, VA. It was hard chasing the train and making this video as it was 11pm when I got to Richmond and there was a severe thunderstorm going eastbound. (Same direction L217 was going) hope you guys enjoy the video

Csx held their family day event at Bryan Park Csx car Shops Located by Acca Yard, A big disappointment that CSX 1973 ‘Chessie System’ locomotive did not do train rides with the Office car “PRIME F. CP (CPKC 7030) SD70ACU was leading S631-12 after the cab signal system was taken down on The RF&P Subdivision. Coming down Ashland at 7:05am then down to Lakeside, VA at 7:59am after waiting for Csx I135 with 5500 trailing 2/3. Then leaves Richmond Acca yard at 8:40am after the Northbound Amtrak Auto train passes through. 6/19/24

They didn’t. After we passed Ashland the conductor kicked me out for the business class car.

You have caught some great train footage. I will be saving this video for reference. I am modeling the RF&P sub from Fredericksburg to Acca Yard. Ashland is a signature scene. The mix freight you caught is a great train to model.
Rock train at the end was probably B465 but that's just a guess. You got lucky with a busy spell there. I was just on that line on Saturday and it took me all day to get 5....just can't seem to hit the busy days. Oh well. Great shots!
Awesome video! I'll have to look up where that new Amtrak station location, that news got by me somehow. Teh again I'm in VB and mostly stick to my side of the water these days lol

Because my camera is a iPhone 14 Pro and it surprisingly is good with video at night. Sometimes I prefer my phone than my Nikon camera.
I agree the cars could be cleaner before being photographed! I have ridden the Cardinal many times. Listing the stations would be nice.

I’ll do my best to do that. I tried to do the full video but as our train approaches the Amtrak conductor catches my phone on the rear window and yells at me.

The impact with the car was hardly noticed until the wreck was seen from the back of the train. They stopped out of courtesy it seems not necessity and not for long.

Yep, I live near this railroad. Sucks that we can’t get any ES40DC’s around here. But very interesting to hear a P3 again…
We had a 2 ES40DC locomotives that came in At 2022. NS 7510 & NS 7538 (7538 had a geometry System installed) they were on V24 as seen in some of my videos. Unfortunately there is A no WIDE CAB policy by the line to West Point due to some of the curves at Richmond. They are not supposed to send in any Wide cabs of any kind unless desperately needed. Currently NS 7576 is at Richmond as of yesterday as well as NS 3496 OLS Unit. Video for that coming this week.
But also further more update if your getting 3214, recently just now I heard the unit come past here again. It seems like the P3 has become unexpectedly fouled since…

Where do AMTRAK trains go after they drop off the passengers at the station? Do they go somewhere for maintenance or to get turned around for Washington and beyond?
