Iam 76 and i have been gray since i was 13 and would use jet black semi color. I love weaves and wigs but now at my age hair started to thin all around the perimeter. I also have been a hair stylist for 40years but now that I am completely gray I was wondering what colors would compliment me. When I found this Salon Chat i listen while at work {still} and it was so enlightening bcas you are exactly me. I love make-up to the moon and back. Hi, new subbie is here I have had long thick natural hair an I started noticing grey hair and not 1 or 5 strands either. I had been dying my hair from 17 so grew up hating grey hair on me. I'm a very harry person and I've had Elvis side burns from birth and I don't wear makeup. Then, I became allergic to black dye and I made root touch up rich...lol😂. Then and currently I rinse once every few months bcus I don't mind the white hair, I just hate it on my face and forehead and kitchen area..

I'm 61 now, but had a mohawk before Covid, but after I now rock a bold buzz with natural greying areas, and I feel fierce every damn day. Every damn day. You do have to go to the salon a lot, or diy it.

Mannnn…my mom who’ll be 80 this May, was recently in the hospital. When some of her friends came to visit, one of them ask if I was her momma, mind you I’m 53 and grey but my mom still wear black and brown wigs and she could easily pass for maybe age 65. Had the friend looked pass my grey hair, he would’ve notice how youthful my face actually is. If I threw on a darker wig color, it would be a different story entirely. But this made me feel a certain kind of way from his comment.not going to lie, his comment hurt my feelings, a strangers comment. I just had to remember many that see my grey hair compliment me on how well it suits me. Last summer I made a conscious decision to not dye/bleach anymore and haven’t done so since.

This is why I’m here. The front is fully grey so the makeup colors I used before doesn’t pop anymore plus I notice my dark eyebrows is just too dark now, so had to apply a lighter color to them.

My hair started turning gray/ silver in my mid to late 20s. I felt embarrassed at first because i was afraid that people my age will judge me. So, I went to the hair salon to get it cut in a bob and have red high lights. I kept that style for a while. Then within a few months I let my hair get long and let the dye fade away. Right now i'm in my early 40s and i still have my silver strands. I never thought about using jet black dye lol! Right now nobody cares that I have silver strands as a young person.

It seems like grey hair is mostly frowned upon in America. Some men and women actually look better now with grey hair than they did before. Even in the Bible it says, “grey hair is a crown of splendor.” It signifies a long life and wisdom. I made a promise to myself when I was a young man, that I would never dye my hair or beard. When a man or woman is meticulous about his/her appearance, works out, and eats right, grey will only enhance those qualities. A well-groomed man with a beard is sexy to a lot of women. Don’t hide the grey, flaunt it!

Yes Queen keep using "girl"!! I was on a cruise for NYE and one of the cruise directors was referring to any woman, who she felt was older than herself, as "grandma". This type of stereotyping can feel deragatory. There are women who are grandmothers of course, but not every woman has children/grand children. Plus, women who are all silver may not even be senior citizens... I love your term so please proceed... girl!!! Much love!❤
