Meshtastic Remote Controlled Phone
I wanted to access my Meshtastic nodes with the functionality provided by a mobile phone linked via Bluetooth. A number of solutions are briefly considered. Perhaps in the future If I can find one that works I will try an Android Emulator running on a server.
The instructions for setting up the mobile phone are here:
ruclips.net/video/2y35SPOaNWk/видео.html
I may have forgotten in the video to mention there may be one more setting on the phone which you have to set in order to enable remote controlling of the phone via usb debugging.

Meshtastic Stratospheric Balloon over Poland
Просмотров 76021 день назад
A group of people in Poland called HAST - High Altitude Stratospheric Team launched a balloon on 25.10.2024 carrying Meshtastic nodes on 868MHz and 433MHz ISM bands. I set up some equipment on a tall building in Munich, Germany to see if I could receive any signal from these nodes. Here is a link to a video of a past HAST balloon launch. ruclips.net/video/J9WXRSKnXVE/видео.html

Common mode signals propagating on transmission lines such as coaxial cable often cause problems for both transmit and receive. Here I show a simple way of testing the performnce of such chokes (also referred to as UNUNs). The circuit I built is thanks to this excellent channel: ruclips.net/video/3ReRu7Yt4Ao/видео.html
MediumFast Meshtastic
Просмотров 4154 месяца назад
Andy Kirby in the UK has suggested using MediumFast Modem Preset in the Lora settings in order to reduce congestion in densely used areas. There is a link budget penalty to pay for this but it may be outweighed by the advantage gained by using shorter bursts. My video shows these bursts using an SDR receiver. Andys video can be found here: ruclips.net/video/PWyhSEAb89c/видео.htmlsi=eUsl1n-uePGz...

BBS for Meshtastic - Easy Install on Ubuntu 22.04

Maybe you remember the old Bulletin Boards (BBSs) that were reached by analogue dialup modems via telephone lines before TCP/IP and the Internet were invented. The BBS system has a certain nostalgic charm for me but has become important again in the field of low data rate comms via systems such as LoRa which is used for Meshtastic. The software TC2-BBS is created by "The Comms Channel" which ma...

I'm experimenting with the Raspberry Pi 5 and this hat now. It's not connecting. The GPIO may be different though. We'll see how this goes... Thanks for the Pi 4 video!
Please keep us updated once you have worked it out !
@ It works! I’m all setup on Pi 5. Most issues I had were just me being a meshtastic newb.
How do you update the FW to a later version? Thanks
Did you ever look into running android on a raspberry pi with a sim adapter and remote in with guacamole (or something)? I've looked into this a lot, but have yet to build it but also not sure whats the best way to make this work. This could be a solution, thanks
I tried Android on Waydroid, Chrome OS Flex, FydeOS and others but always came up against "not play protect verified" so could not install apps like Meshtastic. Did anyone else have better success ?
Hi Simon. Thank you, this is an interesting solution. I have my mesh node in WiFi mode, and that enables the little built-in web server. It does not seem to expose the same node configuration functionality of the Android app, but it has a very useful interface. I have set my DHCP server to serve it a static IP address, so I can always get to it via my home-brew VPN tunnels. Cheers and 73, Jan M7HNK
Hi Jan, indeed this is an even simple roption, but as you said, some of the functionality is missing. Hopefully somebody will write a fully functional control software which can connect to a node by any one of a number of means. Let's see what happens 🙂
I have this running on a RPi3 with Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS server image. I'm familiar with Linux so it wasn't too tough. I realized I wasn't getting the VM bash prompt because I had to run the 'source' command before running the command to invoke the VM. At least I think that's what it was. Thanks for the tutorial and happy meshtastic to you all.
Glad to hear you got it working !
Very nice video. Well done.
Thank you 🙂
lol "you pay" and than you see mostly adverts generated by users. I use fb quite often for closed comunity but this is so expensive its really funny. some who pays this must be really crazy :D
My view is that they should be paying us for the amount of data that they steal !
try free windows app MeshSense, it has no nod settings but it snice for monitoring

We need a balloon node in Brighton UK Simon. Its so hilly here! Kapil
Great video. Is 433 for the LoraAPRS or Meshtastic? I am trying to get into this stuff but there are a lot of options.
Glad you liked it. 433 is also for Meshtastic. It seems far less popular than 866. Probably because the allowed transmit power is much lower unless you are a licensed radio amateur.
Very interesting.
Glad you found it interesting.
Hi, I have tried all the settings, including the laptop app, but nothing works. I am not receiving any MQTT data. I also have the impression that my Lora component is defective, as I see in every video on the ESP32 V3 display that you can select multiple pages (dots at the bottom). But for me there are only 2, no matter which firmware I install. Greetings
Are you using a Heltec v3 ? I tend to ignore the display on those and always use the mobile phone app via bluetooth as there are more setting options available. MQTT needs to be enabled in three different places: Channels settings: UPLINK and DOWLINK both enabled. Lora settings - Ignore MQTT: OFF and OK to MQTT: ON. MQTT settings module: MQTT: enabled, default address, username and password. Good luck !
Hi! I'm interested in learning how you've utilized the IR camera feature of the Logitech BRIO. I would appreciate any guidance or tips you could share regarding your experience. Thank you!
Hi ! Thanks for your question. It prompted me to make a new video showing how I did this. Please take a look: ruclips.net/video/bwIpULxm6io/видео.html
Great video. Just in the making aerials etc. Where did you buy the paradar from. Cannot find them so far. Cheers from old George. Just hope there not too expensive. 😮
I got it on Amazon UK.
@@fotografm Many thanks just found it. Argh it's out of my price range. Not many 868mhz stations around me. 2 of which are 25miles. The other 5 miles away. It's not very active in Corby. Cheers anyway. George UK
@@MakeDoAndMend1 Hopefully the number of stations local to you will increase to build up the mesh. Then you won't need a special antenna ;-)
i cant seem to connect to the webserver at all. meshtastic is running and i can see it all working on the logs but i cant connect to adjust settings at all. any ideas?
Strange. I just pointed my browser to: raspi . What do you see on your screen when you first go to this url ?
My hardware arrived today. I can't say it's been a pleasant experience. I picked up a few nodes at one time, one of which was about 80km away, but nothing since. My second node has been put in a consolidated package, which is taking the slow route to get here, so it'll be another week at least before I have another node to test with on site. Are you using the SX126X_ANT_SW setting? This is included with the board settings now, unlike at the time your video was posted.
It's always useful to haave several nodes on hand for testing against each other !
The mini whip is a fraud that can't pick up anything so why waste your time with them?
I find that it works really well for picking up VLF signals like DFC77 on 77kHz and the aircraft NDBs around 400kHz. Your mileage may vary.
@@fotografm The 4" probe couldn't possibly pick up any signal on LF or HF! If you are getting something you must have a break in the shield of your coax that lets it in!
Nice video, but would be even better without soembody reaaranging the kitchen in the background
Yes, you are right. I have moved my recording studio to a quieter room !
Just so you are aware, the Waveshare board featured here has a known issue sending long messages and the TX power is well below stated output on Meshtastic. The issue is being discussed on the official Meshtastics Discord (Linux), hopefully it will be fixed soon.
That is useful info. Thanks for bringing it to my attention !
@fotografm update: This is a crystal issue that can't be fixed. My advice is to keep clear.
@@grahamwebber9208 A few weeks too late for me, unfortunately. Any recommendations for hardware that does work? (Other than FrequencyLabs, which is just too expensive even before shipping is factored in).
Black and white reference made me laugh thanks for the video.😀

@@fotografm wasn't it from the early days of snooker coverage when Ray Reardon was a lad? 🤣
@julias-shed you are absolutely right 😅
Thank you for shining a light on this experimental band. I will set up a receiver for extended monitoring. Your audio was difficult to hear.
Sorry about the audio. Was using laptop built in mic with gain set to max. Next time will use a better mic !
I do hope we get it in the UK 🇬🇧
It is already available in the UK if you get the special license to use it. I think you mean getting it added to the amateur radio service. This may take a little longer...
How much does covering up the radials with a plastic cover affect it does it lose db
The effect will be absolutely minimal, even if the plastic should happen to be lossy, since such a small porion of the length of the radials is in the vicinity of the plastic. There will also be a minimal lowering of the resonance frequency of the radials due to the dielectric effect, but again this will be minimal.
@@fotografm cool I'm experimenting making one and making a 3D printed cover
@@markwilliams5654 Excellent. Publish your results to inspire us all !
Maybe its intended for your body to be the ground plane?
Could be the case.
It would be useful if you would cover this camera with some different kinds of obstacles to see how it differs
It's gone now. I sold the laptop as it was so underpowered. Will try it out on my new one when I put Linux on it. Shouldn't be long now, the way windoze is going !
Luck for you. I got a bricked thinkstation P720, resetting BIOS jump doesn't work, only get 3 short beepings. No Luck
Sorry to hear about that
This meshtastic thing is so frustrating, i get nothing locally and i followed the advice in the video still nothing 😤
Scratch that, it seems erratic on whether it wants to save settings or not.
@Simon Phillips No PI3b? tried it on arm64 and libyaml-cpp0.7 let me down on the dependency , not only that i tried pointing to /boot/config.txt as i never had /boot/firmware/config.txt . i cannot install meshtasticd .....meh ive run out of pi4 but have a load of 3b+
I never had a Pi 3. Only model 4 plus now a 5 which still had problems with Meshtastic and Ubuntu las time I tried it.
Ah that's what it is .. I'm using Rasbian bullseye and was pulling my hair out . I was working on some ais servers also and this is the result of too many hours at the screen . Ha! Ubuntu no wonder there was no /boot/firmware folder ....damn! Will reimage and post back .Tnx
Could it be that the Tiny SA was showing -db errors because of the noise floor (-28dbm from tiny SA with the -40db attenuator)?
That's a good point !
Awesome tutorial! Thanks! Was wondering how to do this.

I did the same, repladed normal bulb to LED. Now the lamp emmits some fluorescending light even when switched off. Why is this?
Good question !
Great video and experiments. Thanks a lot!

Miniwhip is a PROBE for the electric field not an antenna. Conductive objects modify and reduce the electric field so it must be installed in free-space. So the miniwhip is sensitive only to the electrical component of the e.m. field: this is its main advantage because man-made structures or trees absorb the electric field much more than the magnetic one and therefore, if mounted correctly in free space (non-conductive pole of at least four meters) it will receive less disturbances than a small diameter loop or a long dipole and generally provides a higher signal/noise ratio. The original project is calculated to work conveniently from a few kilohertz up to about ten megahertz. An antenna to be defined as "long wire" and behave as such must be longer than one wavelength. 73s.
I agree with you.
@@fotografm Thanks. However, rereading I have to make a clarification. I wrote: "it will receive less disturbances..." This is true for the reasons I wrote, but only if the source of the disturbance is less than about a wavelength away (near field). Beyond this distance, the electric field and the magnetic field are closely related. Also for this reason it will be convenient using on the VLF and the lowest part of HF. 73s
