Celeste | Strawberry Jam - Platforming Perfection | Mod Showcase
Strawberry Jam is the best 2D platforming experience I've ever encountered. If this video can get one person to give a try for themselves, I'll consider it a success.
I still don't know what this video is. Part level showcase, part live reaction, part high level overview of movement mechanics.
Apologies if I messed up the description of game mechanics and/or terminology anywhere. At the time of recording, had only been exploring the world of modded Celeste for about a month. (I first played vanilla Celeste 5 years ago on the Switch and hadn't touched it since)
I didn't know the modding scene existed until I stumbled across a RUclips video featuring a GDQ run of Celeste in early February. I t...

You’ve been blessed with the relaxing peaceful voice. also amazing intro :)
insanely well made video, holy shit, and definitely a great sj showcase!! (would i be able to ask which song you were using for the later half of the psychokinetic section? it's so familiar to me, but i can't seem to place where it came from lol)
Hey, thanks for leaving a note! Very kind :) The song is "Probably Ancient Evil" by Lena Raine (from the Chicory soundtrack)
@@windrunner6511 thank you :D and yw >:) edit: i just realised where i recognised it from, it was used in moce lxvi: venus lol
Amazing video
What is the song thats playing at 29:00? I literally have been thinking about the music in this video for months but cant find this one song.
The track playing at that timestamp is Bravado (fg. VII) Instrumental by AllttA Cheers!
Yoo I’m your 420th subscriber lol
411 F**KING SUBSCRIBERS???? This is like such a good documentary... how???
Are you planning to make the grandmaster video?
Coming late to the party, but congrats, this is probably the best SJ video I've seen yet, and I've seen many !
Great video structure and quality. If this is indicative of how your content will be going forward (if you make more), then I'll be along for the ride. This was a fun watch.
And you may've played it, but... If you enjoy level variety, you'd love DKCTF. There's one level aesthetic in particular you'd enjoy, if you're into Deep Blue.
One thing that is hard to express is just how big strawberry jam is. For perspective, the all levels tas is currently just under 3 hours long(igt). In other words, you litteraly cannot showcase the whole mod in one video of any reasonable length. Even if we just included the best half of the levels that would still make the video a lot longer(or would force worse showcases). And would still miss many many good levels.
damn so underrated im honestly shocked you only have 300 subs given the quality of this video edit: wait this is ur first vid???? insane bro
Amazing use of probably ancient evil for psychokinetic, and great video! (I also skipped almost all of the dropzle puzzles)
damn you actually found out about the crab secret pretty fast haha
oh my god man please make a video about rogue legacy 2. recently bought that game and your use of its soundtrack actually surprised me, didn't expect to hear these bangers here. aside from that, amazing video! nice to see someone sharing their perspective on the best platformer currently known to man!
Good catch on the Rogue Legacy 2 soundtrack! There's so many amazing listens there (Whale. Shark blew my mind first time I heard it play in-game. The string quartet was outstanding!) I'd really like to make a video of other games I love (A Hat in Time and RL2 do come to mind haha) Thanks for the comment!
This is one of my favorite videos I've seen, especially the music choices throughout, I cant believe this is your first video.
Hey! I'm glad you enjoyed the music :) Thanks for taking a moment to drop a note!
Did you beat summit down-side?
No way this is your first video, this is incredible.
That's very kind of you to say! It was a monster of a project
Psychokenetic is probably one of my favorite maps I’ve ever played. It’s just pure dopamine and speed, and so hard it was almost in Grand Master
Yeah, big thanks to Cabob and everyone else who worked on Psychokinetic. What a map (and didn't dare touch the berry rooms haha)
I screamed when I saw that Lunar Pagoda is a reference to touhou Luna Nights
i think minecraft had a fishing update based on this i think
As a puzzle fan, I must say I'm disappointed... that said, the puzzles were totally uncalled for in a platformer game and it is incredibly infuriating that every level finish is needed to unlock some stuff (and some levels were just... bad). I'm only in advanced lobby and... holy shit, I didn't realise how cursed it gets later on (with the techniques). I absolutely refuse to use the binoculars. If a level _needs_ these, it's a bad level in my mind. I absolutely loved how Squaring the Circle just gave you the directions in the bubbles. 46:12 Yosi Horikawa's music definitely fit for the levels you chose. Disasterpeace would also fit here (46:12) because, you know, Hyper Light Drifter level? Eager to try that one but, until then, Paint (54:13) is my favourite by far.
P.S. 46:30 is just a creature from HLD tangled in vines... but who knows, maybe their name is also Zote :'D
Started playing Starwberry Jam recently because of this video. You have my thanks! Rose Garden stole the show as the introductory level for this video 😎👍
Dude this was incredible I need a part 2
Subway Neon having Singapore’s MRT announcements took me out as a local 💀
Immersion shattered haha
Holy shit this mod is huge.
The clockwork level aesthetics aren't as good as the others.
Locked on 60fps? Ew, why so many of indie games lock framerates it is very annoying.
some games tend to lock fps to eliminate fps advantages, this is a big controversy in geometry dash as it changes the physics of the game aswell
@@aeryxx- This is bound to not age well.
@@aeryxx- Plus people can run below 60 fps ruining the fairness
This game is deterministic i.e 0 RNG, and running calculations on a per-frame basis with a variable definition of a frame's length would introduce an element of randomness. Raising FPS or making it variable would impact timings for some of the game's more precise tech to the point of being impractical for humans, whether it be due to a short or inconsistent window for input. While I can get the dislike of a lower framerate in general, the 60fps cap was one of many deliberate decisions that enable players to execute the kinds of maneuvers you will see in speedruns or higher difficulty levels.
@@scroogledoogle3028 Then they should force it to run at 1000hz, it can be done i bet.
The tech tutorial part of the video is exactly why I am never going to be able to do anything past beginner lobby which stinks cause I already completed the lobby and just want more but I have a skill issue
For video pacing reasons, I combined all of the Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert lobby gyms into one section. So it probably looks way more intimidating than it actually is. There's actually a nice difficulty curve when learning the mechanics for each lobby. Give the Intermediate a try! You'll probably surprise yourself :)
@@windrunner6511 I did I was able to do three easy levels the two I didn’t do is one the soup simply because I don’t want to deal with weird bubble mechanics and two Fifth dimension cause I can’t to save my life delay my jump to get height on wall bounces but the other three were pretty cool and I definitely won’t be able to do anything further but thanks the three more levels I got to play before my experience with the mod finished we’re thanks to you
I’m sorry but why the fudge no one talking about the first try pixel perfect drops in dropzel
What an amazing first video, an hour long reaction of my favorite mod in my favorite game, just what I needed
Agreed; this mod is something special! Appreciate the comment :)
It'a been said but the quality here is insane. Watched the whole video and was absolutely shook to see what a small channel this is.
I really appreciate the kind words; thank you! When I uploaded this into the dark void, I never expected people would even see it!
Question about the recording process - did you play with music muted, or is there a way to separate music from sounds after recording?
I played with the music set to 0, but would often be listening to the OST on a virtual input that wasn't being recorded
That was a really good video for it to be the only one on your channel. Like extremely well made. I’m excited to see what you do next!
moar
Hi dude i have been watching you ever since your very first video
Haha, too true
rewatches: 1
seeing some of the expert levels while somewhat struggling on the intermediate ones is terrifying. sucks that my shitty controller makes it 10x harder by drifting left . great vid!
Ouch! Can't imagine trying to perform precision inputs with drift. I bet if you can find an alternative controller you'll be flying through ;)
wow so much better than me, i cant even beat farewell :I success as well, got me to try out strawberry jam
I'm so pleased to hear that. Favorite maps played so far?
@@windrunner6511 probably paint or strawberry orchard
Did you beat Farewell?
“The cool thing about these maps is that they feel cool regardless of the difficulty of the lobby” Soap is my favorite map so far and it’s only in beginner
Agree! Soap is a standout
Awesome reviewing and editing! Can’t wait to see more on this channel.
dang, what a fantastic video. the actual content (i.e. the video essay and whatnot) is really, really well put together, and the editing of footage is super well done, but what _really_ impressed me was how GOOD the sound mixing was. great transitions, music choices, blending - it's all really, really, good. honestly super fun to watch and enjoy, and i look forward to more from you!
This made my day! Wish I could come up with something better to say besides thank you :)
Trans rights :)
well your video is a success. not being physically able to give the mod a try doesn't stop me from wanting to. really good video too. :)
Okay, we'll both agree the video did its job then haha! Glad you enjoyed :)
A great video, especially for your first video! Was really enjoyable to watch, but it would have been nice if you explained what heartsides were because they are one of my favourite features of this mod. Still, great video nonetheless! Have a sub.
Wow yeah, I totally spaced on describing Heartsides. I'll *pretend* it was done on purpose so folks can be surprised when they walk through the heart gate haha :)
@@windrunner6511 great plan :3
your "playing with covid" is just me all the time
Just getting into the game on Switch after owning it for years and finally deciding to clear it in the last few days but this video has inspired me to rebuy the game on Steam Deck and set up Strawberry Jam as soon as I have the cash. Love the mix of reactions, explanations and information. Thanks! Would have been curious to see parts you got stuck on or found particularly difficult earlier on, you make it look so easy here 😅
I'm so pleased this caused you to give Strawberry Jam a try! Mission accomplished haha Let me know how it goes!
is this seriously your first video? a 54 minute long, incredibly well edited documentary? wow. incredible work!
This was such a nice comment to read. Thanks for making me smile haha!
An awesome video made by an awesome person 👍
Super high quality especially considering how small your channel is!
It’s been a while since a RUclips video gripped me this tightly. 1 hour and I didn’t even think about checking the watch time. Amazing job getting to gm, and I wish you luck on the rest of the maps! (P.S. I got much more consistent at core hypers by demo-hypering a little bit after the block disappeared, hope that helps!)
Thank you so much for the nice note! (best P.S. ever haha! Appreciate the tip on core hypers. I will definitely try doing that tomorrow)
