    I find it interesting that you were happy the wife was squished after cheating but you wanted the prince to stay with Cinderella. It bothers me because the wife of the Baker had been telling her since the beginning that this is HIS problem and how he has to be the one to solve the childlessness, but then the moment that he has the child he keeps handing the baby off to his wife. THEN after the prince and the wife have the affair, the only one to regret it was the wife. ... Kinda interesting to see how certain ideals get instilled in us isn't it?

    • @as_babble
      @as_babble 22 дня назад

      Additionally, there's the implication that the wife is having to actually make decisions for the first time. The narrator is gone. They don't know how the story is supposed to go. The Wife even lampshades this with her line, "I'm in the wrong story." The Prince was already 'supposed' to be unfaithful because he was pursuing Sleeping Beauty while the narrator was still alive (I guess there are only so many charming princes to go around in a far off kingdom). But there's no indication that the Wife would have been. And this is all without bringing in the very real-world power dynamics of a crown prince pursuing a peasant woman and whether or not she would actually be able to say no.

    I know I'm going to get roasted for saying this, but if you watch the 2004 movie with Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum and Patrick Wilson the story will become much more clear. As for the singing compared to the stage production (s) there are two very widely divided communities on that...but, that is what it comes down to. What does it mean to you personally. thank you so much for sharing...this was amazing!

    • @SBaby

      I'd probably recommend the 25th Anniversary show over the movie, just because it's more apparent exactly what's going on in that, and the show doesn't excise large chunks of the musical from the final product. The only drawback is that it's a bit harder to find than the movie.

    As someone who is a big Phantom Phan, aside that the music that was plagiarized, ALW did manage to rob a lot of the ideas from a completely different Phantom of the Opera that was by Ken Hill. Much of the ALW Phantom is almost identical to the Ken Hill production. I still like the musical until how much ALW completely robbed the original Phantom that was by Ken Hill. Ken Hill's Phantom is much more authentic than the ALW version.

    Since you are checking out musicals, you should watch and react to Team StarKid's musical parodies. They have 12 full-length musicals on their RUclips channel. They parody Harry Potter (A Very Potter trilogy), Star Wars, Batman, Disney (specifically Aladdin), and many more. Warning: there is a lot of cursing and "adult" situations, but the comedy, the acting, and the music/songs make up for it. You should give them a go since they went from a group of college theater friends to creating a theater productionion company that still produces content to this day.
